With Ukraine's children fleeing for their lives, this song begs us to stop the war. Thank you for this work

As others have shared, I too still have the original WordPerfect Innovators CD. I kept it all these years because of this song. The song made a huge impact to me in my 20s. Thank you Kurt.

We are all around the world sad, that your song, Kurt, "Prayer of the Children", is in this times, March 2022, again more current as ever before ! Thank you for this song.

We sang this for choir back in 2013 and I haven't stopped singing it since. It's the first choir song I could actually feel and also understood what the song was about before I found out what it was about. Music truly does have a way to the soul

This is a hauntingly beautiful song. I’m an audiophile. We achingly search for recordings that touch our heartstrings. Even though this is a digitally manipulated song, it is beautiful beyond comprehension. Thank you, Kurt!!!

Thanks for posting this story.... I still have the Inovator CD from Word Perfect... got it from the Javits Center during a PC Expo. Not sure the year--but it was around 1990. I was in medschool and created a fake Computer company to get tickets. I still add songs to my relaxing mix. Great seeing you perfrom it.

Hi Kurt, I clearly remember the moment that I was given the Innovators CD. It was 1994 and I was 14. One of my father's friend gave to me this wordperfect disc, thinking that I would love to have the software...but because of your music I never tried that software!! I grew up with those inspiring songs. Music and Medicine. These were and are my passions. I almost dedicated my life for piano, and finally I had to make a hard choice and I became an intensive care physician. Thank you for your music, Kurt. Your songs have accompanied me through very hard times, also through many many high school and college studying hours, trips, reflexive days, and also even nowadays. I got the chance to grow and understand the armony of your songs, and I have loved it since the very first time I listened to them, when I even didn't know which modulation, modes, scales or chords were really played. Truly inspiring and heartwarming music. Thank you so much! Please take care and cautions during these days. Keep your elders safe. My best wishes from Spain to you and your beautiful country.

... "And the song kinda wrote itself pretty quickly... not some miraculous thing". Sting was bored, playing with his guitar and wrote one of the most beautiful song in about 30 minutes; "Every breath you take". Your song is so beautiful, I wish I could hear it in my language, spanish. Thank you

The Word Perfect (6.0?) cd was a wonderful surprise for me all those years ago. I didn't realize that it had been covered by so many other artists since then. Watching the names of the slain innocents on the YT Three Dog Nights video is heartbreaking. Kurt, thank you for this emotionally powerful, beautiful work of art.

I authored the DVD for Innovators. In fact it was my first commercial DVD authoring project. Since then I've done hundreds and hundreds of titles.

Hey Jeremy ~ nice to reconnect. Quick question: Do you have a digital copy of the show? I would love to have an archival copy?
@JeremyNeish4 жыл бұрын
@@kurtbestormusic I originally lost all my copies of the DVD, but just a couple months ago I found one. And so yes, I'd be happy to hook you up with a copy (my wife is requesting you autograph our copy in exchange :) ). We really pushed the envelope (innovated?) with what was possible on DVD. I had to laugh that everyone made such a big deal about the "follow the white rabbit" feature on the Matrix DVD when we did the same thing, only much fancier, 2 years prior with Innovators. Thanks for the back story and beautiful performance, Kurt! I've long loved your Prayer For The Children ever since I first heard it on a DigiTech demo disk! (and I subsequently bought a Studio Vocalist because of it, I hope you got some commission on those sales! 😁👍) Apologies for nerding out here, (and I know most people don't care about how things work, just how the end result sounds), but the DigiTech Vocalist units are polyphonic pitch shifters, which is very different technology compared to how vocoders work. A vocoder is a much older technology and basically takes two inputs and superimposes certain aspects of one sound onto the other sound, typically all done with analog filter banks and envelope followers, although these days digital versions exist. And if you don't mix your original vocal in to the mix, you don't even have to sing in tune or sing at all, just talking will work! 😅 A pitch shifter on the other hand takes only one input sound and then digitally shifts the pitch up or down, and in the case of a "harmonizer" unit like the DigiTech, multiple copies are shifted to the desired notes, and the shift amount can me controlled by stepping through presets or played in real time from a MIDI keyboard or sequencer. With older pitch shifters though, the input vocal needs to be sung and in tune, but more modern harmonizers usually have auto-tune type processing on the input so singing in tune might not be as critical. DigiTech probably didn't help with the general confusion about the difference because they called the real-time keyboard controlled harmonizing mode the "vocoder style" and it does make sense to call it that so users will more quickly grasp how to use it? And in case folks aren't annoyed with me yet 🤭 Puyallup is pronounced like pew-AL-up 😎👍

We met not long after you wrote Prayer of the Children. You came into KSL where Mom worked to perform a few songs, including Prayer, and Mom invited me down. This was in the Fall before your second Christmas concert. I was not familiar with you or your music at the time and as they say, approx 30 years later, the rest as you know is history. 🎼🙏🎤
