I think for the boy who likes older songs, they focused to much on the fact that his musical interests were different. The main concern should have been focused on the fact that he's failing out of school. It's ok to like different music, but that should not be the whole of who he is and his experiences. Social connections are also important. He doesn't have to abandon the music he likes just to connect with other people and study.

I'll also add that while it's not bad to like music from the oldies (because I know a friend who also likes music from the 80's, and is willing to enjoy modern music), he should also broaden his taste in music just a bit (or at least give groups like Kara a try since if that's all he likes, then he won't be open-minded about all sort of genres that are present in the world-just my two cents), but at least keep his individuality the very same. Overall, it's great that he's so unique (and who knows, he'll probably be like a music/history professor, since he actually studied the songs, artists, and the history of the Korean war).

I think this is the difference between western and (shall I say,strictly) Korean culture? After watching so many episodes of Hello Counselor, I get the vibe most Koreans wants to/must fit in, to have something similar with everyone. Those who are different are ostracized, bullied, or in this case, highlighted as a concern. Here (in USA anyway), parents tends to nurture these uniqueness, believing in "You are your own person" mentality. I'm not saying which culture is right or wrong, but I find it interesting (such vast difference in child rearing methods). As for the music genre preference, the boy is right, K-pop these days are not as heart wrenching or meaningful as the old ones. Almost every song is about love. Personally, I think this is an old soul trapped in a young body. Instead of stopping him, perhaps parents should encourage his genre (with the caveat he will graduate from high school). After all, his own lyrics are really meaningful. Idol groups can cater to all walks of life, he can do the same as well. I'm pretty sure the elderlies will purchase his albums :)

I came here after watching this kid(The Kid who loves trot songs) guest on Return of Superman in today's episode 4/28/2020 in Hao and Kang Gary's house. Year 2013 His mom sent and came to this show thinking it was a concern. But now 2020 He is actually a well known Trot Singer in Korea. This proves that not all mother knows best for their child. Sometimes you should let and support your child's dream even if you don't want it for him.

I hope that the 15 year old keeps embracing his passion by writing and singing. He can study as a responsible student without giving up his passion. He’s absolutely brilliant! Society can sometimes suppress talent, originality, and genius. I don’t know of any exceptional person who had a “normal” adolescence. It seems to me that great people have always stood out, gone against the grain, and cultivated their talents through thousands of hours of study and practice. It appears like obsessive and abnormal behavior to “ordinary” folk.

Regarding the first concern. I get it if the family worries about school and friends because the teenage life is really tough at times..especially when it comes to confidence and to 'fit in.' Grades aren't proportionate to success. A lot of billionaires didn't care about grades. You can't say you know what's best for a child. And yes, the main problem is that the parents are punishing him for being unique - his grades are just a part of it. They are punishing him by throwing away his inventions and associating that his uniqueness is the cause of his mother's suffering. If they had approached the issue in a way that is more like "You can be unique, who you are and be true to yourself just remember to keep your grades up" it's another story. But their approach is "You're not conforming to your social age group, your uniqueness is the CAUSE of your bad grades and the cause of your mother's suffering. You need to conform to your peer group in order to make your mother happy".

The parents are concerned mostly because he doesnt know anything but 40's & 60's music. I live in the other side of the world but i still know kara,+ music carreer is never guaranteed. I dont think his mother is stupid. Shes just worried for him. SHe has the right to be concerned for her child. I know hes young so he has his whole life ahead of him but about 3 years from now he might not get passed school and the mother is trying to help the son....but I think he should focus on his studies first, and then major in music later if he interested such as traditional music!! its the system btw. our whole lifes depends on just a letter.

I came after TROS and I'm so glad to see that Myungsub did not give up his passions and individuality. I agree with the orange haired member from KARA (sorry I don't know their names :/), it's good to have individuality and be unique. If I'm the mum I would be proud of having a son like him who have his own taste in this kind of generation where everyone is influenced by and thinks the same way. It is true that it'll be hard to study later, but it'll be even harder to get back those times he lost where he could have used to cultivate his passion and talent. I'm glad he chose to stay who he is and did not dull his shine. I know the mum is worried about him not fitting in but fitting in sometimes also means losing who he is, I will cheer for you Myungsub XD.

My opinion for concern: 1. I think he must keep his interest to old songs. Coz he is different. He is unique. But,he should listen to these days trends too. So he can adapt with public. 2. I really can't forgive the older sister. How can a dog is more important than her own little sister? 3. I hope she will meet her soulmate soon. She deserve a love. She is a woman too. She doesn't want to be too tall too (i think this sentence is a little strange,but u know what i mean gight? My english is not that good). 4. I am the oldest child in my family. I do make my dongsaengs to run errand. But, she is too much. Moreover,lying in the bed all day long is not good for health. I didn't know KARA before watching this, but they honestly showed the most active and caring interaction I've seen from any idol in the show. To top it off they all seem really bright, mentally strong and fun to hang out with, all the more impressive as they're pretty young at the time of recording. I'm so amazed! So I rushed to IG to give the group a follow, but of course they've split already! I even learnt Jiyoung didn't stick around until the end and that the group suffered while looking for multiple replacements over the years. Such a shame, but I will keep my end of the bargain and support the girls still. That's how strong an impression they left me in this episode!

the problem with the boy is not his obsession with Old Songs it's his inability to interact with kids his own age and the fact that he doesn't study. As a teenager I was a huge Opera fan, loved Rock music and Bollywood but i still knew how to interact and not alienate people. (having not seen that part yet) she may have suggested the girl lose weight because people have been known to shrink in height a little as they lose weight. I don't fully understand it but that may have been the basis of the suggestion?

I came here right away after Hao's episode in the TROS... 😅😍😍❤️❤️❤️Love MyungSub😍I can understand his mother's concerns but MyungSub had it all and Now he's a rising star in the field he chose since he was a child... Perhaps his family already accepted and supported him... And I cried after I watched this episode...

The first young man....He's downright impressive. I was amazed at his singing ability and talent. However, it's an understandable concern. He's only 15 and he's focusing A BIT TOO much on one thing. I'm not saying he should stop his interest in those types of music. Definitely not. He's not only interested in it but he's clearly invested quite a bit of time in it. It's amazing. So he shouldn't stop in my opinion. What I will say though is that he should also be focus on school and his studies. The singing and interest in the older generation of music should be a secondary priority. He needs to get through school and his studies. That way, he learn and acquire the basics of going about the musical industry in the future. Cause it seems to me that that is where he might be leaning towards. That way, he can continue listening and learning about the old songs and musicians as he go through school. He doesn't have drop it. He shouldn't. He clearly has amazing talents. I myself prefer the oldies, motown. and generally old-school music. However, I know if that's my ONLY focus...I can become a singer...A homeless singer. Gotta get some balance, man.
