@lilOtaku886 жыл бұрын
Telling someone to not cry can be damaging though... Holding stuff in isn't good. I was taught to be strong as well, but not crying doesn't mean you have thick skin and it doesn't make you strong either. It's actually kind of messed up that people think that crying makes someone weak. I've known other people who have been treated the same way as you and they actually don't have good relations with their parents anymore. Some of them developed anxiety and other mental/emotional issues. It turns out telling people to suppress emotions and empathy can lead them to having none which isn't good. I agree with not crying about every little thing, but instead of saying crying is bad, we should explore why we are feeling a certain way and decide if it really is something worth crying over. With Sian, I actually didn't see anything wrong with him crying. I thought it was unnecessary here.

Also it's just a Korean thing so if ur triggered about it, it's the reality of Korean parenting so there's nothing we can do but just accept it and move on. After watching this episode, I finally understood Dongguk's way of teaching. He's a traditional type of man who thinks that man must carry and support the family so "weakness" shouldn't be shown outright. We can cry but we should do it silently (like most guys do, so the family wouldn't worry) It's a mature thinking so i understand kids cant comprehend but daebak will eventually grow up to know his dad's thinking. And guys, stop using hate to stop a "war" of "right" parenting. We all love the family but we also know there's 2 sides of a coin. Everyone has their own stand so let everyone believe in what they believe in. The point is, it may be good/bad to say "men shouldn't cry" but a father always mean well to his son. Conclude.
@tinyypixyy7 жыл бұрын
@ everyone in the comments getting mad abt nothing: teaching a 2 y/o child that he can't cry because he's a male, implies that crying is weakness and therefor girls that cry are weak too. what sian learns here is, if someone cries, they are weak. if i cry, i am a girl and i am weak. he has 4 sisters and none of them are weak, it's quite the opposite, even if they cry. sian is only 2 and he can't understand why he's supposed to be different from his sisters yet (you can see it by him trying to give birth to the doll, he's just coping his sisters and learning everything by playing "make believe"). all he knows is that his dad won't be pleased if he acts like that, while it's okay for his sisters. so, in the end it's nothing but confusion for the child and causes the suppression of emotions at a very young age, which isn't the best thing for your mental health, as you grow up. this doesn't mean that donggook is a bad father, he just wants the best for his children and no one is perfect. this is the way he got raised and he's teaching it to his kids now. it's just sad that these kind of stereotypes still exist (and if you wanna fight me now, i've studied children's psychology and am a teacher, so i might know a few things about education and emotional development).

tinypixy59 It is kinda sad that these sterotypes still exist. But he's not a bad father in anyway, I would argue he's a very good father compared to many Korean dads I've met and seen. And this whole men don't cry type of thing is a very old mindset, and let's be real, Lee Donggook is kinda old. My dad taught that to my brother and I have a feeling my brother's going to teach that to his son, too. But I don't think Daebak's gonna do that, just from how it seems his mom's teaching them and the number of sisters he has. But overall, I agree with your comment whole heartedly. I like Lee Dongguk and he's still a good dad, it's just that this mindset is still old and it would've made him a better dad if he didn't say stuff like that.

This was actually so sad, i teared up a lot when they talked about their dad being weak and fragile bc he got old. Our parents will get old as we get older and they won’t be as strong as they are now, so treasure the moments you have with them right now and as you get older you should take care of them like how they took care of you when you were little.

This made me so emotional 😭 My parents are getting older by the second as well...it's heartbreaking knowing one day I'm going to wake up, and I will no longer see my mum cooking breakfast, see my dad chopping the firewood or be able to text them when I need them the most 😭

I get what people mean about the gender reinforcement but I personally think that, while Dongguk should phrase it better, he isn't really reinforcing it either. Much like you would tell a girl that "big girls don't cry," -you can see this lesson has been taught to the girls already- Dongguk was reminding Daebak to hold it in. He was crying out of confusion, not pain. He knew it was his dad but his dad just seemed so different and he wasn't sure as to how to respond. Dongguk just reminded him that there was nothing to cry about.

Sian is naturally more emotive, his personality, telling him to suppress that takes away a part of his character that makes up who Sian is as a whole. If he suppressed it he would not be himself. You can be strong and cry as well. Kindness is not weakness.

I get it, but it's still an unfair expectation that he has to carry the family. Obviously Korean tradition has it so that the eldest boy takes care of the family, financially supports if necessary, houses the parents when older, and also gets the most respect and love, but ideally you'd have it so that everyone mutually contributes instead of all that burden resting on one individual. Just a thought

This family honestly the best🥰 you can tell they have close bond. And with dad's tough love parenting they grew to be bolder and isn't so easy to fool🤣 (even tho dad's always got them🤣) Honest, this is the kind of dad that I think their children would always look up to even when the grew up taller than their dad... There's always fun story to reminisce... A life lesson to ponder together... Maybe laughing over one silly episode of prank gone wrong...

I don't believe Dongook meant it that harshly. He was just telling Sian that he shouldn't cry. I've told my niece in a similar matter to not cry when she lost her basketball game, and another time when she was having trouble with her math homework. It wasn't being harsh; it was to help them have a stronger sense of mind. He's told his other kids not to cry either so it's not like it's the first time. The terms "You're a big girl now" and "Boys shouldn't cry" are very alike in a sense that at that age, the kids shouldn't be crying over anything/everything. When the kids were younger, sure of course they're going to cry over little things. But as they grow older they're going to have to get a grip of reality and not get upset over little things like spilled milk or a toy being broken. See how quickly Sua and Seola wiped their tears? It might have been off-camera but he's most likely told them to wipe their tears and move on, too. And truth of the matter is that Sian didn't know how to react because obviously when Donggook isn't his usual goofy bubbly self it's going to confuse him. So I get why he cried but come on guys, Dongook wouldn't scold his kids. He was telling them in the form that he should -- assertive but still soft enough for the kids not to cry more. It's like the time Ilkook took the triplets to the store and Mansae cried. He told Mansae to stop crying by just staring at him and telling him "stop..." and eventually he did.

I can see why people are so triggered but many of you are taking it too far. If their dad was so so strict and mean, I'd see the issue but he's not. He is perfectly healthy emotionally and you can obviously see it in their children. In case you don't watch the show, they show their emotions. Don't be so triggered over a perfectly well balanced, strict when needed parent, and always ALWAYS showing love to his family.

To everyone thinks he pushes daebak too much, I think it is because he is the only men in the house when he is gone, he can take care of his sister as being the only brother. As he wants daebak to be sting and take care of his sisters .

guys i just don't know why you are all whining on him not letting sian cry, look he have 5 kids already. do you even have any child to say that? i mean such stereotype like men shouldn't cry, but i think he just want sian to be stronger, if i am not mistaken, he's the only boy child of him right. actually he's such a great dad tbh but don't talk like you know everything about being a parent

“Men’s don’t cry” every parent has their own way of teaching kids stuff and I’m my opinion dongguk wants to show sian the reality of life and how harsh it’ll get in the future and since sian is growing up with girls, dongguk want him to be mature in such a young age and want him to be strong as he grows up.
