@ethanoconnor7367 O was responding to the original comment that I missed and came up after your response. My UDM does all layer 3, no need for another device. It's directly connected to the ISP DOCSIS modem and Fiber ONT.

Glad I stumbled upon this video Guy very informative. What model of APs would you recommend with the UniFi UDM Pro SE?
@asphere82 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the UDM SE and UDM Pro share a backplane limitation, so you won't see any benefit from aggregating ports 7 and 8 like you said at 6:05. You'd have to use one of your 10g or 2.5g ports to connect to a switch with a more capable backplane. I'm still planning on picking one of these up as soon as they come back in stock in Canada, but I hope I'm wrong about the backplane because that could be very useful!

What about where you have multiple WAN connections? The fortios has sdwan options, does the UniFi?
@KBTrainings2 жыл бұрын
UniFi has WAN failover. Will have too experience it, but it is not better than SDWAN in the FortiGate. Will talk about it on the channel.

I am in the same position, wanting to move from a CloudKey to UDM SE. I would love to see your migration step by step. Questions, when you adopt the UDM SE, do you have to start from scratch or can you move functions from the cloud key to the udm?
@KBTrainings2 жыл бұрын
Hey Alan, I just did the migration yesterday and it went well. A lot of obstacles that I could've been avoided if I knew... instead of spending almost 4 hours on it like I did. I will make a video showing a better way to do it step by step to save some time.

Awesome video! Is there a reason why you decided to use the ports for the IP cameras and not the AP’s?
@KBTrainings2 жыл бұрын
I will use the ports for APs as well. I have 3 APs and 14 IP Cameras. On the UDM Pro, after using 4 ports for my 4 VLANs (Surprisingly, I just found out that port aggregation is not supported and trunking is not recommended on the UDM Pro SE... 🙅), I will add the 3 APs and 2 IP Cameras, just to relieve the switch. Thank you Dave 🙏

Yes, it is a UniFi firewall or "security gateway" as they call it. Yes, it can do L2TP VPN for remote access and site-to-site.

if you can't afford 200-300 usd per year for the Fortigate licences, then unifi is for you. On Unifi barely any visibility on network security or proper logs. On Fortigate you can do url filtering, DNS filtering, app control, etc. pretty good for IOT as well. You can't compare Unifi with Fortinet. Different purposes.

The 8 ports are still sharing the same 1gb backplane from what I understand. So not really ideal use depending on devices.

What do you mean? You mean that if you have say 4 connected devices on it, instead of it transfering up to 4gb, , 1 gb on each device, its split into 4 so 500mb per device?!?!?!
@dan43152 жыл бұрын
I don’t understand. Fortigate is a UTM device and there is a price to pay for owning one so why would you even consider using them in the first place? If you need a comprehensive security solution Fortigate is the answer and I for one don’t have a problem paying for UTM license renewal every year for my Fortigate. And yes it’s expensive but worth every dime in my perspective.

I think it's a bad idea to install an SSD for your surveillance data. Better buy a NAS / surveillance HDD, as long as it's NOT a SMR drive. Otherwise the drive will be killed by the 24-hours data writting actions.

Replace Fortinet with a "Dream Machine Pro Special Edition?" That's pretty cringe and don't see the point of a USG. Your ISPs AIO gateway has all the features of a USG except VLAN routing.
