While the XGs are overkill. In the meaning of it. You could make a case for a AP AC nanoHD which costs a 10th of the XG even for private usage. Or even if you were buying 2nd wave wifi-5 (ac) stuff in 2017 like myself, when they first came out, the AP AC HD. Yes my neighbours totally hate me but one even asked me to help him build his network when he is moving to his new bought home so While self employed we rolled out two sites with 5 APs in total at one customer that is a testing facility. We rolled out at the first site 4 UAP-AC-Pros that span each one of them a whole storey aisle in 2018 (we would have been totally fine with 2 instead of 4 but the customer wanted a deployment of 4). And on the second site we rolled out between late december 2019 and january 2020 one nanoHD which we recommended with an option to upgrade it two 2 of those but it turned out we were totally fine with one. spanning the whole storey with the network.

I wouldn't touch those with a barge pole yet. Following that rule would have avoided the bad square APs (the initial AC model) that Linus mentions having had issues with, note that the current controller support older AND newer Access Points but not the square ones (they were that bad).

I've had the same WiFi for 19 years. When my parents got a house in 2001, they installed the best WiFi that Romania could offer at that point. Right now, I'm 16 years old and for the past 4 years, I've been complaining that I had 600 kilobytes per second!!!! I finally switched and I could never be happier, even with 40mbps

Ubiquiti already has a Wi-Fi 6 AmpliFi product. I believe they announced an entry level Wi-Fi 6 UniFi AP last week, too. Not much benefit for home gamers. Ironically, biggest benefit would go to multi-thousand client APs like this one.

If you setup any VLANs you might wanna keep an eye on that 1G connection from the UDM-PRO to your 10G switch. I think that switch has L3 capabilities but not sure if they play nice with Unifi. I recently had an issue with a similar setup where inter-VLAN traffic was going all the way to the UDM and a 1G connection was bottlenecking.

funniest thing bout this vid, is i had to recently replace my own ap. annoyingly the one i wanted wasn't available and had to go with a slightly more exspenive d-link extender/ap that plugs directly into a power point. Plus side its twice as fast as the old one and i have full control over the range(had to reduce it), plus the ability to use a black or white device list to control what devices can connect to our wifi through it.
