As a British NFL fan of the Broncos (don't hate me) I'm jealous of this signing. I think he will tear it up in the NFL. No Rugby player has ever come in their prime or pre-prime, as hes 22 to the NFL. PLayers in the past always came at 29 or so after their rubgby careers had ended in a way or the tail end. But he was already in the best youngest players or best players in Rugby. He's ran 4.2 in the past and been clocked at 24mph. He knows the NFL as his Dad played American football in Europe for years whilst he was a kid and he's a huge fan of the game, so he knows the game also, somthing that isn't being spoken about. I think hes gonna do amazing, as I said and I can see more younger Rubgy players being scouted after this to play in the NFL. But he's a unique one. He's already at elite rubgy level though, whilst so young. He probably will strart at special teams then move to WR, he's young enough to take time with

@@overthewebb Tardits young flanker for Biarritz has refused to play for Toulouse (rugby was not proffessional at the time ), he left France at 19 to study in the US, any ambition to play in NFL ! His very good physical condition due to rugby is the basis of his success as a linebacker, with Georgia Bulldogs and later in NFL for three seasons.

Gray switched from in his and he ended up having a decent career in the NFL, just goes to show if a rugby player choose football instead of falling back on it they jave so much more potential

The most exciting thing in my opinion is the lateral passes Kielce throws. If LRZ runs support lines off Kelce (after teaching him how to pass it back), getting offloads then attacking an unstructured defence who are not expecting it, or have never defended against it before, LRZ will carve them open. There is probably nothing he is better at in rugby than attacking a disjointed defence. also a lot of chat (not from just you guys but media in general) that he will need to learn American football, his dad played semi-professionally and I highly doubt he would have made this move if he didn't watch it often. Think he will know a lot more about how to play American football than most give him credit for

Until very recently there has been no professional rugby in the US. Colleges having a rugby club instead of a school was the norm until about 10-5 years back but there have been a good number of people playing both sports. I am sure that there are other NFL players that have played rugby. If you go back in time I remember that Joe Theismann played rugby. If I'm not mistaken two other players on his Vikings team also played, one of his wide receivers and one of the "Purple People Eaters".

The Phillidelphia Eagles have former Rugby League player Jordan Mailata and former Rugby Union coach Richie Gray, whose rugby coaching is what made their now infamous "tush push"/"brotherly shove" plays so effective.

It’s on the taller end for a winger. 6tt 3 in certsin positions is huge though. Like your Scrum Haves abd Fly half/ wingers/ Fullback. But then there is a whole spectrum. You get some wingers (same position as Rees-Zammit, they’re the fasted players on the pitch) who are 6ft5, and others who are 5ft 7. He’s probably referring to locks where the average height is around 6ft7/6ft8 on the international stage. Then you get huge players like Devon Toner who’s 6ft 11/7ft playing

I think his first year just use him on special teams, being fast and long I can see him blocking a few punts, it is a familiar skill from rugby. I remember Albert Lewis turning it into an art form in IF and he was 6'3" too.

I think as long as he has intelligence to learn game from scratch hell do well , as hes a back in rugby , he is small for an average rugby player , but above average for a back .forwards in rugby can be 20 plus atone . 300 plus pounds USA . And 6ft 10 just to put in context . Some huge pacific islanders in rugby from fiji , tonga , Samoa etc who i honestly believe would tear NFL to pieces as not only monsters but their ball handling skills and speed and endurance for men of 250 to 300 pounds is unreal...on top of their STRENGTH , when they hit you , ur ancestors feel it

I’m not a huge fan of Wales but he is a talented player. But, the thing is in my opinion, he’ll pull about 3 years in the NFL and be back in Wales for the requisite 6 months period that will allow him to qualify the national team and the next World Cup in 2027. Just a guess but I think he’s doing what a lot of rugby players do when they go off to Japan or France for the extra money. He just went the other direction. Either way, even if Im wrong, I wish him the best of luck. Come on my guy and show us Americans what world class Rugby has to offer.

Fair enough, but I can't agree about his plans for the future. Your model is that he grabs some big cash quick, then go back to the game he presumably is ultimately loyal to. So far, so good, but I'm here to say that if he has enough success to be offered a non-rookie contract, he'll never go back. I won't have to appeal to world recognition on that, because having a successful NFL career is a marketable asset, and the more Rings he wins, the better that gets, especially as a visible asset. But you're talking sentiment, and I get that, I'm just handicapped by the compulsion to look at things in a broader context. You're good with me, hope the same applies to you.

@@bookman7409absolutely. I secretly kind of hope he stays and Is extremely successful. If nothing else it’ll make people around here more appreciative of rugby. That’s a win/win situation as far as I’m concerned. I’m open to suggestions and different points of view and willing to consider others point of view. I wish the young man the best no matter what he chooses to do in the future.

Once he conditions his body to allow more explosive speed, as opposed to endurance like you for top level rugby. He will end up being faster than he is now.

Louis (pronounced Lewis NOT Louise😁) Rees-Zammit is a world class winger in Rugby. The real deal. He made his International Debut for Wales at just 19, which is young and whilst this does happen if your exceptionally good it's not that common. Normally teenagers go through the U20 system first and would be expected to get a couple of years of top level club rugby under their belt before being considered at International level. A bit like a high school football star skipping college football and going straight into the NFL. By the age of 22 he'd competed in 3, 6 nations tournaments, A British Lions Tour of South Africa and a Rugby World cup. The last two only happen every 4 years. He was only 20 when he was called up for the British Lions. I can not overstate how big a deal Lions tours are. On a par with the Rugby World Cup and even tougher. Most players consider it the pinacle of their career. Winning a Lions tour is even harder than winning a world Cup. Will he make it in the NFL? It'll be tough. Things on his side: - He's young and if it doesn't work out he could return to rugby at 25 and add to an already very impressive career. - He's a superb athlete. - He's an experienced top level professional. - His dad played American football for the Scottish Highlanders in the now defunct Eurpean league so he's grown up watching and understanding the sport. - He's working with some of the best coaches and players in the game. - He really wants this and has given up an already top-notch career in rugby. The pay levels aren't as huge as the NFL, but it's still a lot more than most people will earn in their lives and rugby careers last longer. Against; - He's not played from a young age so he's a lot to learn. - Learning a load of new plays as well as the basics of the game. - Whilst American football grew from Rugby and the games show similarities, in some aspects they're very different: i) Rugby is played over 80 mins so you need stamina. American football is played in short intense bursts. ii) Rugby players need a wide variety of skills, including both attacking and defensive. iii) Rugby players need broad vision and to see spaces on the field. In American football other than the quarterback you mainly concentrate on your opposite number.

Who knows if he’ll make it or not. But most rugby players who have tried to make it in the NFL were close to the end of their Rugby carrier. LRZ has made the change at 23.. so he has a better chance than most rugby converts. He has the tools. Potential but time will tell

It makes me laugh when NFL guys say football players are so much bigger then rugby players. Football is the same as rugby in that there are really big giys and realy small guys. Same for when they say football players are fast than rugby players, your faster guy might be faster than ours but not by much amd they sure as hell cant play 80 mins of both offence and defenve

Jarrod Hayne former Australian NRL/rugby league player played at RB & special teams for the 49ers. Mind you these player's are from the Australian NRL rugby league which is a different sport to rugby union. Rugby league is a lot faster, intense & harder hitting.
