@@PBSSoCal Nice! KZbin needs to step up their suggestion game. I'm a SpaceTime, Eons, and Be Smart subscriber, plus seen almost every episode of Funhaus. Took them way too long to recommend me this channel.

I love this series! Having an expert provide their insight in relation to a videogame is such a neat concept. I bet a lot of us have been inspired to learn more about a topic after playing a game, I know I have.

There are bunch of sunken ships near the island I live in Kotka, Finland. They are from the Battle of Svensksund in 1790. They are really hard to dive, and it's strictly regulated, but they have found some really cool bounty. There is an exhibition for, and there is even a wooden peg leg.

About the eyepatch and the mythbusters epsidode, she got it backwards!! Adam has a video on his channel Tested about how the eyepatch was a good myth and it absolutely worked to be able to maintain one eye always adapted to darkness and be able to utilize it in a useful manner. Great video as always!

Okay I must note the origins of walking the plank that goes further back then Treasure Island. A General History mentions the Romans using ladders lowered into the water, probably fictional but its a similar idea. There was a case in the 1760s of mutineers making a hated jailer walk over the railing to his death which might be the origin of the claim. By the 1830s it was a common enough trope to appear in books like Charles Ellms Pirates Own Book. From there it drifted into pirate literature and eventually Stevenson.
