Had to switch to Kubuntu on my Raspberry pi 5, because of that ... malfunction introduced to KDE by those who wrote official updates for Rpi. And you know what? It was a good move, because Kubuntu doesnt have limitations, that Raspbian KDE version has. All widgets are available, all updates run smoothly. And wayland works as expected. Still waiting for Manjaro release for Rpi 5 though. 😃

I always remote into my RPI with RDP, and that also has some troubles with different desktop protocols. O and before people start complaining why RDP, well because i can remote from machines that are not under my control meaning i cannot install software on it like my laptop from work. If you want to win souls you have to be compatible with some stuff from the other side. In my case that is RDP.
@terrydaktyllus132029 күн бұрын
What has any of that got to do with the video content? If you're looking for some kind of affirmation then Linux is entirely about doing things your way and if RDP works for you, why should anyone else care? Sure, as someone who has worked with Linux for 28 years now, I don't ever use RDP but I also don't have any Windows systems any more and RDP is very much linked to Windows anyway. I use SSH and VNC but those fit my workflow and if RDP fits your workflow, then great.

Wonder if a fresh install of plasma on a new rpi OS would fix Plasma on wayland. Or a newer version of plasma? Or maybe there is something missing it requires from this new compositor?

I would give it another 10 years and they may finally fix wayland to a point where it's usable.

I did think it may work 👍🏻
@terrydaktyllus1320Ай бұрын
@@leepspvideo Don't get me wrong here, it would have been interesting to see it work but I wasn't holding out any hope. Xorg came out in 2004 and it was a replacement for X11R6 as an Open Source and "backwards engineered" replacement - it took years for it to be a good and stable product. Wayland is a completely new protocol and it has to work with many types of drivers and desktops if it is ever to replace Xorg. It is being rushed out, mainly for the benefit of gamers who seem to incorrectly believe that it's the answer to them gaming on Linux and getting rid of Windows. That's a different conversation but it's in this constant "throw it out there and see if it works" mode, and the end result is it usually still doesn't work. So I am very cynical about Wayland for that reason..

I got the update of the standard desktop and changed to labwc, it was an ordeal to say the least. Disappearing icons in the menu, Conky was in the middle of the screen and no way to change it no matter what I changed in the conky conf file. After the desktop frooze a few times I had enough. Installed a back-up I made first, did the update and stayed on Wayland.
@terrydaktyllus1320Ай бұрын
I've removed Conky from all of my machines now, it's a complete waste of resources, especially on lower-powered devices. You think it's not taking up many resources but when it's running scripts that check fan speeds, disk occupancy, CPU usage and temperature every few seconds, it is doing a lot more than you think. It's useless eye candy anyway and the machines I've removed it from instantly feel quite a bit snappier.
@pd9rdАй бұрын
@@terrydaktyllus1320 On my RPi 5 it's ok with the resources, with Brave as my standard browser watching YT in 1080p I never see the ram over 2GiB. So I think Conky doesn't hog up my resources. But, I will keep it off and see if there's any difference. Thanks!

@terrydaktyllus1320Ай бұрын
If your screen is blanking out and wi-fi is unstable then my best guess would be a power issue - specifically, not enough power to drive the Pi, the screen and wi-fi at times of high load. You might need a more powerful power supply, or you might need to replace it if it's faulty. Check to see if the PSU gets very hot, that can be a sign of a failing power supply. Also disconnect the touchscreen and use the Pi with an externally powered monitor to see if that makes the wi-fi more stable. If it does, then it's almost certainly a power problem.
