Interesting to see your video, as a goldsmith of 53yrs, Iam sure this , because of the flat setting flat setting was stone out with pearls. Over time and because of the small hole in the setting, the pearls would dry out, turn brown, shrink, go brittle and easily fall out! And maybe someone tried to clean it, which would account for there being no stone, “maybe”. Hope this was helpful. Kevin Simmonds.

I would suggest the stones were flat bottom old cuts . These usually had a fine silver base under the diamonds for reflection as these old cuts windowed badly . They also could have been demie or seed pearls . Again flat bottoms . ( jeweller 40 years ) Thanks for the history .
