Thanks for these great memories! I moved to the Pittsburgh area in 1971 and left 20 years later, but the sounds last a lifetime.

It's been stuck in my head since I put this video together last week. The first jingle for the Pirates has been stuck in my head also!

The one at 2:56,I remember 1/2 of it on a Jackson Armstrong aircheck! Yes, Jack I guess did a time or 2 at KDKA after he left 13Q. And the song he introduced? "The Other Woman" by Vicki Lawrence! Lol. And the incredible Rainbow Machine one! Lol

A past local station was called KUSA and used to do long jingles like this. “We love our home in the country 55 KUSA!” KUSA was a modern country station that used the C-QUAM AM Stereo format so it made sense for such long jingles in full stereo on AM.

KUSA (550 AM) was KSD once upon a long time ago. It's now KTRS.

@@TheBrooklynbodine that is true. The St. Louis Cardinals also partly own this station but play their games on KMOX. Go figure.

I knew the Cardinals (partially) owned it at one time. Do they still? Another thing, KTRS was their flagship when they won the 2006 WS. More trivia. John Rooney was one of the announcers that season, and the year before, he was an announcer for the White Sox when they won it all.@@RJDA.Dakota

KDKA-AM was the Pirates' flagship from 1956-2006. WPGB (104.7 FM) carried them from 2007-11. KDKA-FM is the current flagship, but it's the Pitt Panthers flagship, and I guess that takes precedence over the Pirates, so the AM does Pirates games when there's a conflict.

1:02-2:01 Despicable on every level imaginable. Yet another reminder of what happened to my Orioles in the 1971 & 1979 World Series. Excruciatingly corny as hell, too.

Well.... perhaps my beloved Buccos haven't had much luck since my kidhood, when we beat yinz 2wice in a single decade, The Balmor O's have only been around since 1954, as opposed to the Pirates who went to the FIRST World Series 51 years BEFORE the Balmor O's even existed! (We LOST, Natch!) I'm poking fun, The Orioles won 3 World Series in 17 years, And while my Pirates did win FIVE...It took 70 years for my "jagoffs" to do it! Good on you for being a good Orioles fan! I'm that rare Pixberger who doesn't hate on Baltimore (Hell, I "hate" Philly more than I do....even Cleveland! 😲 ) Besides, my own daughter lives in Owings Mills, And is a RAVENS fan 😳😲🤯 So there's that.

Pirates vs. Orioles-the ORIGINAL Pittsburgh-Baltimore rivalry. The Ravens didn't exist back then, but the Colts were Baltimore's NFL franchise. In both years the Pirates beat the Orioles 4 games to 3, with the clincher being at Baltimore and both were won on October 17. Coincidence?

I wonder what happened to the "Rainbow Machine" it was a big deal in the 70's, I imagine that some "homeless" guy is living in it up by Conneaut lake. LOL.

Hi Ellis. What a wonderful find for me today. I was a producer at KDKA for a few years and happened to be in the station when the Pirate jingles included here arrived from Dallas. I got a private listen from a very proud and talented Randy Flick who was the production director at the time and headed up that effort. My primary job was driving and producing from the Incredible Rainbow Machine for a couple of years, so that jingle really brought back fond memories. Here's a link to a retrospective I produced of KDKA's '81 Children's Hospital campaign. The three-week remote broadcasts that rotated through the downtown department stores leading up to the Christmas season and collected donations for the hospital. The broadcast during those three weeks was just wall-to-wall folks who had stood in long lines just to say 'hi' on the radio and drop off a donation. Enjoy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoese4GMoayDbrM
