I was surprised to see this morning when I drove from 87th Street and I-35 in Lenexa to the Country Club Plaza, starting out at around 5:45 AM, that I-35 and Shawnee Mission Parkway were in quite good condition. There was quite a lot of packed snow on our route but no drifts and very little perceptible ice. My neighborhood had already been plowed by the city and a contracted service had removed the snow from our driveway during the night. I drove a little slower this morning but I do drive an all-wheel-drive SUV with dedicated winter tires on it. I grew up driving in snow and find it fun. Our term for "all season tires" is "no season tires".

I agree with staying home if possible, a relative of mine was trying to leave their workplace but couldn’t leave due to the conditions. They had to call a tow company that couldn’t respond for over 1 and 1/2 hours. The head lead of their group wasn’t aware of the conditions to contact them. Work from home if possible. To be clear, if your workplace wants you to go to work in these conditions, just dont. Its risking your safety and whoever else happens to be out on the roads right now.

How can we have closed roads. A state of emergency and you tell us to stay home. Then we are expected to go to work tomorrow. This state has to get it together. Many of our employers are telling us to come into work tomorrow. We are almost all snowed in.

12 inches of snow over 24 hours + ice + heavy winds + single digit temperatures = a city shutdown Sorry about your employer, but it literally just stopped coming down a few hours ago.

I'm going to say that I'm sure some of the MoDot drivers are doing what they can. It's always management that gets them out too late, then the liquid salt or road salt is never used. The drivers are sent out on the tail end of the weather when it's already too late. MoDot always complains of employee shortages. Well... That sounds like a management problem, either fix it or be a manager somewhere else!!!

Awww that's adorable; remind me again when ANYONE has ever said there will be no winter or storms because of climate change. In fact, climate change gives us more winter storms that are more extreme.

Well now we can get the trucks out. Why can't the trucks be out during the storm to keep the roads clear? I know they weren't out there. I watched highway cameras for two days. They are so backwards
