Ke Huy Quan's win for Best Supporting Actor in 'Everything Everywhere All At Once' was a journey for the once child actor in 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom' and 'Goonies.' Ke remembers moments in his life when he couldn't find work and the advice he recieved from Cate Blanchett on taking on projects in the future.

It's the honesty and earthiness for me. He's so down-to-earth and real about his career struggles. And he's not ashamed to say how badly he wanted and needed this opportunity and win. This is the kind of person you want to work with, zero entitlement because they know what it's like to be out of a job for a long time. Good on you, sir

This years Oscar’s is something else. Nothing but humility, heart warmth, and humanity Also like like you said with previous collaborators, felt like fate. Harrison Ford rarely goes to award shows, had he not presented or EEAAO won, their hug wouldn’t have happened. Then Steven Spielberg, John Williams, and Kate Capshaw looked in awe when they hugged. Only person missing is George Lucas. Full circle Plus also the return of Brendan Fraser and Michelle Yeoh being the first female Asian to be nominated in over 90+ years and first Asian actress to WIN Best Actress! Last year Oscar had some groundbreaking achievements too! But with Ke and Brendan returning and with their humbleness it’s something special, not only for them, but as humans. Puts more faith in the world and more inspirations! They got strong energy

It's extremely common in Asian households, and I'm sure it's like that for other ethnicities too. Like, we'll say "I love you" and stuff to each other via social media, or after we've been drinking lol, but not directly to each other. It feels weird for some reason. Yesterday was my birthday, and my mom text me "happy birthday, I love you", and I honestly can't even imagine her saying that to my face, which is totally fine. @DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Жыл бұрын
It is more luck than skill though and I say that as no disrespect to him. The Indiana Jones movie only wanted an Asian actor for his part. The story of how he got the part was more lucky than this Oscar win. For a white American actor to get the same equivalent in Vietnam, China ,Malaysia or Japan it would still be really hard for them to want to give that award out over every really great oriental actors who never won yet either. He is a good actor but obviously multiple Asian actors could have done his roles really well also. He seems like such a genuine nice person though it means more it was him.
@TheRebellefleur27
@TheRebellefleur27 Жыл бұрын
@@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants to attribute anyone's achievements to luck when you weren't there and/or don't know what happened, is in fact low. If you heard the story, he tagged along with his brother who was auditioning, along with many other Asian boys. He was "coaching" his older brother behind the camera. Steven Spielberg saw this and asked him if he wanted to try a take. And he did. Here we are today. So two big things happened in this man's life and you say both of them were a happenstance of luck. Low and hating.
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants Жыл бұрын
@@TheRebellefleur27 It is hilarious you use that story which I already knew which that story in itself is like Mega Millions lucky which was completely unrelated to his acting ability or skills. #1. A major motion picture is in your area hiring for a major role that he happens to live near #2. They are only hiring an Asian actor for this part #3. His brother wants to tryout and he goes to help him and not to tryout #4. He gets asked to tryout for the part #5. Out of all the people they could pick they pick you The reason why this is still luck is every great actor or actress there is always another one who would do a great job so it still takes luck to get the part and especially did for him at that time. Obviously they could have hired another good Asian actor to play Shorty. ----------------------------------------------------------------- You think his good acting skills made all 5 of those come true? I am not hating I am being honest which is something you should try more. He is a good actor and I have never said otherwise. I remember there were Asians who were very offended by his character in the Goonies. They said his accent and that he cant speak english properly should have been the reason he did not get that part. They said the character he played was a negative stereotype. I liked his acting as Data and I did not have an issue with his accent. He was great in it. They wanted an Asian with an American accent to get the part. There was other things they complained about also. You think a white actor in Vietnam or Malaysia or China is going to have as many acting job opportunities? You would need luck and a lot more of it than an Asian actor needs there. That is realistic and not hating.

@@hienlethai3979 Sadly, I have not seen the whole movie I watched the first 15 mins and I had to leave unrelated to the movie. I will see it though for sure. Lou Dimond Phillips is half Filipino. He is a good actor. You would need an asian man 50 to 65 looking? for the part. Ken Watanabe but some might not believe he is Chinese. He is good in every movie I have seen. Daniel Dae Kim same thing. Jason Scott Lee would have been great too and can do a convincing Chinese accent. I probably could name more but those 4 would be good. You disagree?

I cannot put into the words the joy I feel for Ke Huy Quan! He was my favorite in Indianna Jones & Goonies. His role in EEAAO is one of the best performances and character story I have ever seen in any movie. His art has truly inspired many generations and will continue to do so. So happy for him and thankful for his life.

I remember watching the Everything Everywhere... and geeking up when I recognised short-round so much older but with the same entusiasm, adventure and kindness. Short-round is up there with Marion and Indiana's dad as one of the best characters of the Indiana Jones franchise.

Disney, if they are smart, but I'm not holding my breath given what they've done to the Star Wars franchise and Willow, has a sure fire hit with a Indiana Jones spin off staring Short Round now all grown up. I mean all the Indy fans already know him from the Temple of Doom movie and it's like him taking over the torch from Indy who is now in retirement. Disney will get the Indy fans, 80's nostalgia fans and not to mention the BILLIONS of Asian fans of Ke Huy Quan all over the world. Disney just better hire some good writers and not the ones who worked on Star Wars or Willow. No WOKE shits, just good old fashion adventure and fun like the 80s movies! DISNEY DONT F THIS OPPORTUNITY UP!

@@BestoftheBest-oz4ei Your big idea is as original as making a sequel of the Goonies with Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and Ke Huy Quan. There are probably 1000 people in Hollywood who already thought about how to capitalise these IPs now that Ke Huy Quan has become a star. What type of woke shit you don't want? Like the new Predator sequel with a native American female lead or Top Gun: Maverick having a team of very diverse and inclusive pilots. Which one of these great movies you don't want?

When Brendan said “sometimes the phones just stop ringing.” And now compared to their life changing roles the Whale and Everything Everywhere All At Once. It is just the boost to their careers that opens so many opportunities for them. I know their previous movies are terrific! But I know there’s always that one film that changes your career a bit more. I’m so happy for Ke and now he has such a big win in his career I hope more opportunities keep coming for him. ❤

I've been following his whole journey all throughout this award season and each time he got an award and got into one of his signature tearjerking acceptance speeches, I would ugly cry with him. God damn, his comeback story (and Brendan Fraser's) feels exactly like what he said onstage at the Oscars : it's straight out of a movie. Directed by Steven Spielberg for good measure. With a final cameo with Harrison Ford for the climax ! I'm tearing up just typing these words ... I'm so happy for him in this moment, not just for him, but for the living symbol of hope to people like me, filmmakers who haven't had their time to shine yet, that he became this past year since the launch of the miraculous Everything Everywhere All At Once ! And now I can't wait for the sequel Everybody Everytime All Over the Place ! That's gonna keep him busy for a next job. (Although we'll see him very soon in American Born Chinese and Loki season 2, both of which I'm very excited for).

His story includes refugee, immigrant, child star, working w the best directors, then the roles and opportunities dried up for a couple of decades, but he stayed involved and worked behind the scenes, wondering if a new chance for what he loves doing will come again, and boy did it come big time. To work w Michelle Yeoh for starters, what a comeback! Pat Morita would be so proud and happy for this years recognition for AA. There are other Asian actors w recent experience, they have the talent and looks. But Ke Huy Quan has this pure energy of love of his work, appreciation for his life journey and everyone in it. It is touching and moving and wholesome. 🥂cheers to holding on and dreams coming true. See you on the silver screen Ke! Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you for covering this story in this way. The story of an immigrant, which is so embedded in the fabric EEAAO, is the life story of so many. As an Asian American, I've been really dissatisfied with the coverage (or lack thereof) of the historic wins of this film and its Asian cast in the mainstream media. I needed this win. I was invested in this win and it felt largely glossed over with the headlines being about Hugh Grant being incredibly rude to his red carpet interviewer or Lady Gaga helping a fallen photographer.
