The earth is BOTH flat and round (spherical)! To us, tiny humans, it IS flat while on the cosmic order of magnitude it is, naturally, round! Has anyone seen a flat sun or moon, btw? Even from a great distance you can see that the Moon has actually volume and is in fact a finely shaped globe. Therefore, it's hardly possible that the earth could be a flat disc.

Love these wee fellas. Easy to watch them for hours and be constantly entertained. Plenty of laughs. If you are coming to NZ please don't feed them at all. They eat NZ native food and there's plenty of it. Feeding them is helping to kill them. There are only about 5,000 left.

@@undeadpresident Yes there are rumors that they go on the neck of a sheep and open up the skin to get some meat. For them it is an easy protein source. You have to imagine in the new zealand alps food is pretty rare or takes alot of effort to get enough calories. So in the 80s it was still allowed to shot Keas because of the sheep killing. they reduced the kea population from over 100.000 to arround 20.000. Today there are around 1000 to 5000 keas left because of the introduced mammals of the english like rats, stouts etc.. The Kea breeds on the ground so the bird and the eggs are easy prey for the predetors. Another problem is alot of our food is a posion for the Kea like choclate. So never feed a Kea they find there way in the wilds. ;)

You know how children love to push things off or knock things off just to see what happens? Same impulse. In a way it never leaves us humans as we grow up either. Older children just have more and more sophisticated ways of knocking stuff down. And many adult humans love watching demolition videos or check out how the Kurtzgesagt video on "What If We Detonated All Nuclear Bombs at Once?" got 13 million views and counting xD

I'd assume the surplus of empty calories and chemicals through processing would have the same effect on them as people: which is not good.

calories = energy = movement = survival. If they ingest anything too harmful for them, they'll either regurgitate it or pass it that much faster. They can't eat it in the quantities needed to kill them, too much competition for too little scraps; otherwise they wouldn't survive to come back for more.

No. Alcohol is toxic to nearly all animals, even small amounts can damage an animal's liver, and birds are especially susceptible to alcohol/caffeine poisoning. It looks like most Kea just try a sip and don't drink any more though, so it's fine.

Beer is toxic even for people. Only we need more than a sip to show the damage. But most, if not all alcoholics end up with liver damage aka cirrhosis.

My dad found 7 dead Kea that had been eating a dead cow poisoned by 1080 three days after a 1080 drop in the area he said that there were thousands of dead small birds scattered over the ground and he said that the area was quiet he could hear no sound of life whatsoever but he didn’t see one dead possum, stoat or rat. My dad is the most honest person I’ve met in my life so far and most trustworthy.

Kingrove What alternatives would you suggest then? Traps? Birds can get in those too, Hunting? Far to inefficient, The only way to get rid of them is poison such as 1080, because all other methods are just not sufficient. And I bet 75% of those dead birds were introduced birds, not important to the natural ecosystem.
