Because they have guitars my friend. The band consists of piano, drums and vocals. But could not exist without hiring musicians to fill in on guitars and bass in the final studio recording and also on stage live. So in essence they are a three piece band but have lots of instruments throughout.

One of the things I love so much about Keane is the English-ness character of their lyrics; the whole British literary tradition shows up even in simple lyrics like "The lovers are losing." The musical declamation, this is the way the words match rhythm along with the tonal-European harmonic progression, is superb, at least in their best songs. Perhaps Keane is a little out of time; they are just too full of peace and of love for our post-hippie times.
