The world: Soccer, F1, Tennis, Rugby, Cricket, Tour de France, The US: American Football, Basketball, Nascar, Baseball Soccer is by far the biggest sport in the world. Played everywhere in Africa, Asia, Europe, South-America and its growing more and more in the US too. The World Cup final had 1.5 billion viewers and 5 billion people in total engaged with it. MMA is practised worldwide and the UFC is big worldwide with a lot of international fighters too. MMA/Boxing are far more popular worldwide than American Football for example.

@@Quayleman Tour de France isn't a single race. It's multiple stages that takes a month. There's also different speed bicycle tournaments throughout the year. But the Tour de France is the most watched. It has around 2 billion viewers. There's been several UFC fights organised outside the US. I struggle to understand your overall point tho.

@@keepyourcalm2494 i think their point is that TDF is an event, and the sport would be "cycling" sure there are multiple legs to it. but you wouldnt consider the college world series its own sport, even though it would by your definition include all the games in the bracket that leads to the finale. Or the super bowl and the underlying superbowl playoffs. basically if you went up to lance armstrong and said "what sport do you play" would he answer Tour de France or would he answer cycling.

In terms of hosting more popular sports events: Wimbledon > US Open, Premier League > anything the US can come up with, Silverstone is more memorable than any US circuit. In terms of sports and how popular the sport itself is, sure the US has basketball and shares the title for ice hockey, but the UK has Cricket, which is way more followed/played than basketball, and Darts, which is arguably just as quirky and not-like-other-sports as ice hockey is (just play regular hockey like the rest of us man). The US does have baseball but Golf is most definitely a UK thing. Rugby > Football. F1 and MotoGP are way better than Nascar. Oh, what, is he gonna make a left turn again? USA sports would be sick (especially ice hockey and basketball) if it wasn't franchised. That shit is probably good for extracting money, but it kinda ruins the fun of it in my opinion. The NHL is kinda dull now-a-days, but it will probably bounce back.

Not as huge as the USA. We have bigger stakes with just March Madness alone (basketball). Billions of dollars get wagered on that tournament alone, far more than any sport league in the UK. The NFL is the world's largest franchise (in dollar value). If you want to discuss stakes, no one comes close to the US. Whichever one you think is best, comes down to personal preference but the monetary value for sports is statistically one-sided.
