ALSO I really recommend the summer book by tove jansson! Short stories about a grandmother and her 6 year old granddaughter while the spend summer on an island in Finland. Beautiful descriptions of nature, and family, and life! I think it’s right up your alley

I’m not sure if you are looking for any recommendations at the moment but last year I read: Educated by Tara Westover, The vanishing half by Brit Bennett, Crying in H-mart by Michelle Zauner, Everything I never told you by Celeste Ng- really recommend this one, I’ve re-read it 3 times.

The hearts invisible furies was the single best piece of fiction I've ever read! It's one of the few books I still think about almost daily and I finished it over a year ago. I recommend it to every one, especially if you're Irish.

Really good book! John Boyne also wrote 'A History of Loneliness' which I even found better than the HIF!

Also !!! I completely agree about just reading what you enjoy and I don’t judge anyone for reading fun, light books or anything “chicklit” but I think that Colleen Hoover should be getting a lot of criticism cos her books have a lot of abuse and stuff in them that is put in a romantic light. Im sure you know I’m just putting my two cents in!! As long as people aren’t thinking that’s how relationships should be, then it’s still entertainment. My sister loves them.

Completely agree. I can see the appeal to Colleen hoovers books because they are so easy to read and get through. But they are so problematic and romanticise many things that should not be.

Ok I def needed this - I had been wanting to start reading recently & grabbed a book that's close to 500 pages. I am doing my best with it but it's a bit slow & easy/shorter reads would definitely inspire me to keep it up! So much better for my mind before bed than binging TikTok 💕

You really are my comfort person right now and this giveaway is so wholesome. I only hope one day you create your own book or poetry collection, as an English lit student you are so inspiring ! I want to come to Ireland for one of your shows soon , would be a dream to meet you. Thanks for being a wonderful girly xxxx

Maybe not the easiest of reads as it includes time jumps etc but A Ghost in the Throat by Doireann Ní Ghríofa is so beautifully written! I read it in about 2 days and it really reconnected me with my love for reading ❤️

Love this video ! Highly recommend Open water by Caleb Azumah Nelson , What a shame by Abigail Bergstrom (somewhat unlikeable main character), any book by Joan didion (all are quite short) and The dangers of smoking in Bed by Mariana Enríquez !!! 💗

the lake by natasha preston is really good. it’s mystery / gets intense towards the end, chapters are short & super easy language. definitely recommend, it got me back into reading after not reading for years :)

Totally agree with your point about reading what makes you happy, but I would like to say that the reason a lot of people have issues with Colleen Hoover's books is because they depict abusive relationships and paint it as romantic, not just because they are Chick-lit, so maybe not the best example! I'm sure you probably weren't aware of that, though and still totally see your point!

i really recommend ‘i who have never known men’ by jacqueline harpman!! it’s only 208 words & such a beautiful story. in the science fiction genre but similarly to before the coffee gets cold, you just want to keep reading because of how lovely the characters are, & how compelling the story is :) xx

for a short, simple to read but great book, try 'Letter to my Daughter' by Maya Angelou. my mum gifted it to me and I really enjoyed. it has a lot of great life lessons that you could take on and pass on to your daughter and maybe one day when she is a teenager/young adult you could pass the book on to her like my mum did for me.

I did English lit in college for my under grad and for years I couldn't read anything but popcorn for the brain books. I remember thinking i didn't want to critically think about anything, unashamedly went through a Jodi Piccoult phase- so bad they are good 🤣I couldn't agree more, read what keeps you reading!

for short books to get back into reading: "written in the stars" by emma donoghue (she is irish i think) - lgbt! but tw for maternity ward and all the complications that come with birth, "we have always lived in a castle" - not much happens, but the vibes, also "Crows" by Petra Dvořáková, i am not sure if it has been translated to english already, but i hope it will be, tw for child abuse

I’d recommend daisy Jones and the six audiobook over the physical copy. Maybe that’s sacrilegious. The one on audible is a full cast like each character has a different voice actor so it’s like watching a movie but not having to actually watch lol. The book felt a little more flat because the story is told in an interview structure but I did still enjoy.
