I just bought a pair and have about 15 miles on them on steep muddy terrain. They are lightweight and have good grip. We’ll see how long they are waterproof. I’ve had many Targhi ll’s and they don’t stay waterproof for more than a year. The heels on the Flex Ridges are over sized compared to the Tarhi’s, seems like over kill. But so far they over all are good.

Good review Will. I've been interested to see how these boots are considered by someone who uses them in the field. I do hope that the new technology does provide the longevity that the boot requires and that the rubber doesn't break down. The issue for me is still the tread. I would respectfully disagree with you on grip and as the lugs are so shallow, the longevity of the upper is irrelevant if the tread issue isn't resolved. But, it's a promising move in the right direction as I do agree with you that some manufacturers seem to want their footwear to wear out quickly so that the next pair must be bought sooner rather than later.

Thanks. I think it's a really impressive step by the brand. If you're looking for a Keen boot with more grip I'd have a look at the Karraig. Really wouldn't be surprised if we see a Karraig-like model with the Bellows Flex tech released in the next season or two. I'd hope so anyway. Will

Great review. I wear Keens for hiking and backpacking. Hiking up Mount Clay in the White Mountains in New Hampshire yesterday, I noticed the stitching coming undone in the same spot you pointed out on your boots on my Keen Durand II's. Do you think the Ridge Flex will stand up to backpacking with, say, a 30-pound pack on my back? (I weigh 165 lbs without the pack.) Thanks.

Just looked up Mt Clay. Looks quite similar to some of the mountains we have in Wales! I think the durability is there, yeh. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for that kind of hiking. Will

Are they true fit? I'm a size 9 but some times I have to step up a half size between different brands.

If you condition the leather parts of boots, they will look better and last a lot longer before flexing wears them out.
