i love this ad but i started to realise that in the 2017 ad its about how they cant cure the flu or a cold but with the 2018 ad it seems as if they mean overdosing . it that just me?

of course they can’t cure the cold and flu. both are caused by viruses. hell, so many different virus species can cause the cold that the exact one causing each one in your life could be different. it also makes it basically impossible to create a vaccine for “the cold” given just how many potential causes it has.

The song is discussing antibiotics resistance for those of you who don’t know. When people feel unwell with a bacterial infection they are prescribed antibiotics by the doctor however only take it until they feel better failing to complete the whole course. While they may recover by doing this bacteria that are slightly resistant to the antibiotic survive and replicate and can in some circumstances have the capacity to spread their antibiotic resistant genes to another type of bacteria all together. People may also have leftover antibiotics from doing this and so when feeling unwell decide to take them without their doctors advice potentially taking them for an infection that is not bacterial impacting their gut flora and also leading to antibiotic resistance. At some point when they contract another bacterial infection they increase their odds of the antibiotics not working as now the bacteria are resistant which will if unable to be treated lead to sepsis and 💀.

Taking antibiotics for a bacterial infection is what they are for. They are only a problem if people start taking them excessively when they don't need them, which leads to the evolution of anitbiotic-resistant strains of pathogenic bacteria.
