I've never been more ruthless than after I became a gardener and critters decimated my garden. Hopefully this trick to critter proof your garden will help save you the hateful, malicious thoughts I endured. It's the ONLY thing that has worked to protect our garden from these pests. Having used this method the last 2 years with success, I'm no longer seeing red and maybe even slowly letting go of my grudge against the little jerks, although they'd still be wise to avoid my garden at all costs!

OMG, I have been battling it out with the squirrels trying to save my peach tree. I was thinking of doing something similar to protect my harvest. I kept trying to figure out how to go about it since I failed to prune it down to a manageable size this past winter. That is on me. Thank you for sharing the netting info with us. And , yes, you are correct, those rats are smart. Super smart. I know it sounds terrible to say that I even tried baking soda on those squirrels. Yes, I did! They made a hole through our deck and it's not pretty the damage they can cause. So it's not just to gardens. Thank you for sharing your video.

Thank you for this video. Very good. I went to the feed store and bought a cup of white clover and planted it at the far edge of the property and also put out a shallow top of a bird bath, placing it directly in the ground, half buried to the rim. Then filled it with water. This is for butterflies, frogs, etc..that want a drink. Rabbits, too. The clover provides a distraction for the rabbits which are basically lazy foragers. Deer netting keeps out all deer,; bird netting , all birds. Our German pinscher chases out all woodchucks. The opossums and fox clean up any fallen fruit with the added advantage that the opossums eat all rats and the foxes eat any rabbits they can catch.

Rabbits can eat through that mesh easily, but it does keep out deer and squirrels. Found out the hard way: Rabbits ate all the green beans right at harvest time, caught them in the act. Had to replace some of the mesh and double up on the mesh around the bottom outside of my garden area which mostly deters the rabbits, but not always .

Niiice. I put either a tennis ball or 4" section of pool noodle at the top of t posts. This keeps the netting from tearing. Godspeed fellow gardener, :J

I got a Shetland sheepdog dog guarding my garden with a Black Labrador for backup. I use cattle wire around my garden to keep the dogs out. My Shetland Sheepdog is very vocal and she does kill rabbits. Before I got my Sheltie my Labrador did nothing. Rabbits had it their way and my Labrador would just look at rabbits and fall asleep. Very mellow.

I was thinking of just laying chicken wire on the ground and electrifying it. I tried bird netting to keep the squirrels out but they just tore holes in it.

Doesn’t work for me …squirrels chewed my construction fencing mesh a lot thicker than the video one and half inch mesh to get to my Zucchini plants ….I still do it bc some protection is better than no protection …from Toronto Canada …enjoyed your video and keep on fighting the critters .

Just get tulle, it’s more than likely cheaper and the small animals don’t like it, because they can get trapped in it, the larger animals won’t like it either.

Were the squirrels able to bite into the plastic netting to make a whole big enough for them to get through? I tried a different plastic netting but they bit off parts and they were able to get in. 🤬

Tried the netting but the Birds get caught in it. I went with small patio tomatoes in fabric grow bags & keeping them inside butterfly cages. The rain gets thru but the critters aren’t bothering them…yet. Time will tell.

I think it might have been raccoons you were dealing with. At night, one bite makes me think that. I believe squirrels would have no problem breaking in. I used that kind of barrier in the past and whatever critter just chewed through it. I had to up grade to metal. Your tomatoes look great btw.

Rabbits eat through the plastic mesh and can also fit their heads through the metal wire fence. You have to put up the plastic mesh or metal fence and add the rabbit/ chicken fence wire around the bottom to keep them out, and they can sometimes still dig under that, but not usually.

The secret is to feed your man a big steak and alotta beer. Have him go around the perimeter, not close to plants. It's a predator smell so they won't come close. It only works if you live in the country, lol

Wow, those are some seriously motivated squirrels! They tried a couple times after we first placed our barrier and if we saw them attempt it we let our dog out. I think the netting slowed them down too much for comfort around the dog and eventually they didn't even try anymore and by the next year I had it up early enough they didn't even know what they were missing. My peach tree is a different story though.... A very sad story.
