Perfect timing on this video. I just finished the install on mine over the weekend, and I love it. There's a web interface too, if you have a GDEMU or USB-GDROM, you need to configure the reset line (if connected) via the web console. Another commenter mentioned the HQ2X firmware, that's out now.

One thing i notice is that the 480P mod with mCable compared to the VGA with mCable is that it's easier to see darker details on the 480P mod. For example, it's easier to see the details in Ryo's hair at 18:46 like the lines in his hair while said details aren't visible with the VGA and mCable.

DCHDMI has HQ2X anti-aliasing available in newest firmware .... BUT from what I know it’s only applicable to 960p and 1080p modes. Not in 480p mode. What I think may be best option for those of us with MCable gaming editions .... is it DCHDMI could somehow either apply edge smoothing of HQ2X in 480p mode, or if it can output HQ2X-smoothed 720p mode with some of the Dreamcast titles which had native resolution lower than 480p
@citrus3000psi5 жыл бұрын
Just a few observations: Under output resolution, VGA is digital not analog but displays a proper aspect ratio. 480p is digital but displays an improper aspect ratio. 1080p is a very important feature as it remove the displays scaling from 960p to 1080p. The 240p setting aligns the screen on some 240p homebrew games. To be able to play 480i or 240p games the cable detect mode needs to be set. There is now an hq2x firmware that smooths the games.

@FrankiePS5 жыл бұрын
The problem with the mCable; while it does smooth out jaggies, it also can crush detail in certain scenes. Also, the DCHDMI can do a 4x scale on games like Bangai-O and Last Blade 2 if you set the video mode settings to "cable detect" and if you have a modern HDTV that can handle the wonky refresh rate that gets spit out (most 4k TVs can).
@swungsolid5 жыл бұрын
Did you notice the cable adding shimmering to say GameCube or Dreamcast games?
@ChuckLopez5 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam, a couple of things about the DCHDMI: 1. Apparently DCHDMI displays the dreamcast in the correct aspect ratio. It seems VGA boxes display the DC in a thinner aspect ratio than 4:3 2. There will be a smoothing option (currently on beta) that will help with the jaggies. I'm not an official source by any means, but these are my findings based on reviews/research
@The-Fishkeeper5 жыл бұрын
That first point is actually quite an important one.
@PvtHudson5 жыл бұрын
This is true. I use the Gekko and the aspect ratio is thinner. I believe the native Dreamcast VGA output is 720x480 but only showing 640 lines within the 720 frame. The VGA boxes truncate those 640 lines resulting in a thinner image.

I could use a few fresh batteries myself. I know you mentioned that you have to send that Dreamcast back to VideoGamesNewYork but I would be curious to take a look underneath the hood. VGNY has a great website. The 3D printing part for the GDEMU was a good idea compared to a previous design that I've seen. Having the SD card slot where the CD rests in the console is a lot better. The thing with the GDEMU is where do you get the roms to load onto it and how? I would want every Dreamcast game although I do prefer physical media. On another note do you think SEGA would ever make another console after the Genesis mini that could play every Sega CD, Sega Saturn, and Sega Dreamcast game in 1080p? Would Sega games on those consoles become expensive as Neo Geo games? If Sega doesn't really want to be in the new console business then why not improve on what they already have by having their retro consoles rebuilt in HD for modern displays for the hardcore fans?

@AdamKoralik3 жыл бұрын
The Dreamcast only natively supported 480i and 480p. Between the two, 480p is the better one. The games were developed with that in mind. When the DCDigital forces them to run in a higher resolution, it tends to expose some of the visual issues that were hidden in a lower resolution. If you're having issues with it being squashed, I imagine there's an issue with your TV or monitor not being able to understand the resolution correctly.

I need a Dreamcast!!!!!! Don't return it and send it to me in Australia! Just say ohh it must have been lost in transit...Im dead serious :p
I'm certain if they can't do it with this version as of now they could always do one with extra chips on it just for picture optimazation.

I run my Dreamcast through RGB Scart on a CRT TV and to be honest I'm more than happy. I'm more interested in getting my original xbox the best resolution so the m cable will be used for it rather than the Dreamcast.

Your wishes have been answered Abem! With newest Firmware there is a wonderful HQ2X filter that does a great job of filtering out those jaggies :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2Gmm4mee9iSerc

“Loaned?” Of all people I’d expect you to have one ASAP. I’ve successfully installed several now so HMU if you need help.

i think the best balance would've been to have a 720p mode on the DCHDMI, that divides into 4K perfectly and would allow the mCable to do it's thing too!

Anyone ever run into an issue where Mcable stretches content for 1080p? I haven’t had this with Dreamcast, but it makes me wonder if I’m doing something wrong.
@ZeniusFox5 жыл бұрын
The MCable is automatically going to stretch the image because 1080p at 4:3 doesn't exist natively. To overcome this you need to change the aspect ratio within your TV.

Derick Kerr Thanks. For some reason my TV doesn’t let me force aspect ratio, so that’s my problem

@@fentazen2677 Samsungs are pretty good options if you are in the market for a new TV in the near future. Super low input lag (less than 16ms/1 frame) and they usually let you adjust the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3.

The video improvement is Not worth 345 bucks. The quality compared to a VGA Box or $30 HDMI Cable is not worth the huge price increase. I'm trying the Hyperkin HDMI Cable and the image quality looks pretty damn good to me, just as good as the VGA Box and not that much lower quality compared to the HDMI MOD and $120 MCable. A side from the annoying distortion caused by the Pico Dreamcast PSU I installed in my Dreamcast I like the image quality. I don;t know if it's the Pico Dreamcast PSU it's self causing the video noise interference I did not get the "Official" PSU that is $50 on Ebay but got what I guess is a clone, or the external 12 Volt Power supply being a cheap one that does not isolate electrical interference , but without the interference the video image is great, not muddy and no noticeable lag or game breaking motion blur. I tried using other 12 volt Wall Warts but they all had the wrong size barrel plug and would not fit into the barrel plug. If I use the stock Dreamcast PSU I don't get the distortion but now my Dreamcast will run hot again and I have the GDEMU with the Stock PSU 12 volt rail disabled. I'm hoping it's a issue with the Hyperkin HDMI Cable and Pico Dreamcast PSU and ordered the Kaico HDMI Converter and a Sega Dreamcast to HDMI Converter Supports 16:9/ 4:3 switching, Plug and Play HD HDMI Cable for Sega Dreamcast (Sega DC) by Azda that has a 16:9/ 4:3 switch as you can see by the description hoping one of them will solve the video noise interference problem.

Great Video! For now that's the priciest way to play Dreamcast on a modern TV. In my opinion the benefits to the compared solutions are minor. No need for me. My Dreamcast runs with the Akura HDMI Box and the mcable. Also an expensive way to play. But I'm still satisfied, picture quality is perfect for a 20year old console.

I know is convenient but buy a Dreamcast to play game from a sd card is sin I think
