​@riverraven7 Oh..Do I understand this comment. Sometimes we don't realize the choices that we make have a lot do to with the experiences we've had in life. I thought I had escaped my parents ( even though at the time I didn't know that's what it was about) I found that I put myself right back in the same place of constantly seeking approval, not having any support, and the perpetual cycle of abuse. I'm happy to say 12 years later after a 24 year life of hell marriage, I am free, constantly working on myself and being enlightened to the things I was actually put through and that it's not all my fault. Learning about our narcissistic parents of the 80's Will help you understand how you ended up where you are now. There is a wonderful man who has experienced this life as well and he has a really good channel explaining all of this. @ Begood2000 channel on this platform. You deserve to be heard and to be appreciated. Don't feel guilty for taking a peak because that guilt comes from experiences we've gone through at the hands of these people. You can do anything you set your mind to and you can make it forward with or without that relationship. Wishing you the best.

I can have my feelings now due to meditation but there are always people who don't respect them. It has affected me though in my relationships. Ican feel them and attend to them privately but it is very hard to express them to others and I really take quite some time to trust people.

My biological father was an abusive sperm donor, who I couldn't stand, but my mom painted this picture of him to be more monstrous than he really was. Our parents and uncles fought in the Vietnam war. They came back pretty fucked up, our grandpa's either fought in World War II or the Korean War, they didn't take no shit. The men in our lives were hard men who had seen too much at too young of an age, and the women were the ones left to try to tame them.

Born in 1959 so technically I am a "boomer" but, I feel the winds were changing by the time I started walking and by the time I got my stingray at 13 with it's banana seat, butterfly handlebars, sissy bar, and wheelie bar I was a full fledged Gen-Xer running the streets smoking kools and getting a regular a$$ whipping for the sins I had committed that day. So to all the boomers we had our time. Lets just sit in our rockers and mumble quietly about them darn kids. It is time for the Xers to take the spot-light and begin to guide the future generations a little better then we did. Got to have my daily dose of Sherri.

I'm a boomer married to a late boomer, almost Gen X. I was born mid 50's and he was born 1964. We had almost the exact same life experiences because he was the youngest of 3 brothers, all boomers. I raised my Gen X daughter pretty much the way you described. She was a latch key kid, and stayed out till the stret lights came on. But, that is how I was raised too, so even as a boomer. I lived the life of a Gen X. Not all of us boomers had the perfect little Donna Reed family that so many younger generations think we had. My sister was born in 1960 and I was pretty much turned into her mom. She was only 5 years younger than me. Even with the parents I had, i still loved my childhood. I spent all of my time outside and came home when the street lights came on. Same as Gen X. And top it off with me having a bipolar mom that kept moving us back and forth from Chicago to New Orleans every other year. I was always the new kid in school. And my parents were from the Greatest Generation. What my mom did teach me was to not take crap from anybody and always stand my ground. She was scrappy! My dad was a bartender, and I hardly ever saw him. I relate to Gen X much more than boomers. Actually, my husband had a slightly better home life than I did. Poor, but more stable. I think boomers and Gen X have more in common than any other generations. My daughter is Gen X, who stands up for herself and doesn't take any crap either. We all did the best we could. And I love to listen to you! You are super funny and very relatable to me!

I was born in '58, so your gen would have been my little sibling or cousin. I would have babysat a lot of you starting when I was like 9 and then "officially" when I was thirteen. I always loved you kids and wished that things were going to be better for you, than they were for us. But nope, just more of the same sh*t. One of my little charges once said to me that he wished that I could have been his mom. He was like 9 and I was 14. I just told him that we were too close in age for that to be possible, but to myself I was thinking, 🤔 yeah, me too kiddo, we both deserved a heck of a lot better than what we got. I was born of boomer parents, but raised by the silent generation grandparents...while my boomer parents are part of my trauma, my grandparents were waaaaaay different. Being from Louisiana, there's just something different with the culture, I was influenced by my grand aunts and uncles, and my great-grand aunts and uncles....so was my mother.
