Well, when I had my quail chicks growing up in my living room I once watched Jurassic Park. When the raptors started calling, my little quail chicks responded trying to communicate with the raptors. So I knew to never turn my back on them.😂

Awesome video. I never had success with diamond doves and my finches could never get used to their presence. So i had to rehome mine. The quails however are the best ones i have. I only keep a pair so i don’t run into any problems.

Interesting, mine have never been an issue for finches at all. Maybe in a smaller cage they might be

In the bird kingdom there are actually types 3 of chicks, the ones jay said and the 3 type is a miniature of the adults, all feathered up, you can learn that for your selfs on a video Clints reptiles channel

So there are only altricial or precocial chicks. What you’re describing is still a precocial chick, but just happens to be very similar feather patterns to the adults in some species.

@@thejayviary i just went to the video, Clint mentioned that they are called super precocial and also said that some of them can climb, fly and dig because they bury their eggs and then the chicks are alone, these he said they are called megapodiates, or something along these lines

What’s your suggestions on preparing your birds for this eclipse if you have an outside aviary

Shared and have been subscribed. I have a question, but it has if has nothing to do with this topic, I have canaries and my Stafford, an Gloster build nest sit in them tight but yet lay no eggs. This is my first year experiencing this. Could you think of a cause and a possible fix? Thank you in advance🐦🐥

Sometimes the hens take a little longer to lay eggs. I have one right now doing the same thing. If after a while the same thing happens maybe try swapping out the male if you have an extra one. Or separating them for a time and then putting them back together.

Do diamond doves cause a high level of feather dander like other pigeons?

I have nine week old tuxedo button quail. How do I tell the males from the females

Well, if you cannot see any red feathers at the end of the lower body towards the tail it's likely a female. There are also differences in their calls, but most reliable in my opinion is the courtship behavior in adult button quails. If you provide a mealworm to them the males will pick it up lay flat on the ground put their head sideways and call the females to get it. They don't display the full ritual all the time, sometimes they just hold it in their beak and call the females. Adulte males only eat them themselves if no female reacts for a long time, while females don't hesitate to eat it right away. Take it with a grain of salt though, although it worked 100% for me there might be individuals who lost that behavior.
