Consider using a squeeze succulent water bottle with a nozzle that you poke into the moss just above the plant You can monitor water squeezed into the moss and you don't need to wet the upper moss that isn't benefiting the plant anyway. Beak dropper for example

Wetting the whole pole will boost the humidity though which then ultimately benefits the plant, but great idea regardless :)

@@IMNENIGMA1 thank you. I do have to agree with Jan though. Wetting the whole moss pole does help significantly with humidity. Most of us seem to struggle with keeping moisture levels higher during the winter.

Even a plastic squeeze ketchup or mustard bottle with a cap on it would work. I'm using coco coir liner on a mesh pole. Wrap with twine, wet down, bendable. 😊❤

Its seems to be near impossible to keep a moss pole moist while not drowning the plant in my house. So I decided to experiment and filled a wire pole with bark chips. I will find out if i can get similar results by allowing the plant to get its nutrients from its terestrial roots and let the aerial roots cling to the bark as it naturally would.
@sydneyplantguy
@sydneyplantguy Жыл бұрын
Definitely not impossible, i do it every week :P consider less volume, higher frequency, irrespective of it being bark or moss :)
@whiskybrush3219
@whiskybrush3219 Жыл бұрын
@@sydneyplantguy perhaps but, my poles are bone dry and uber crunchy after less than 48 hours and that's with my spraying the areas with noticeable root formation once a day on top of the every 48 to 72 hr water bottle, and of course my medium never has a chance of getting any drier than damp with this frequency, so i constantly worry about root rot. The bark pole on the other hand is looking really good after only a week. Might be a good alternative to moss for dryer northern climates like mine. I dunno. It is really fun to experiment with though! 👍

You can consider a drip line (cloth) irrigation and leave the water container inside the pot and just refill it. Cloth line can run inside the holder pole there and plant roots will grow into inside and get water that way.

A 1” PVC pipe mounted in the moss pole with small holes drilled in the pipe to the substrate level. Cap the pipe at the bottom. A funnel to fill up, no mess, easy and moss stays hydrated longer.

I took a little moss out of the top of my pole, took an old water bottle, poked a very tiny hole in the top and in the bottom and filled it up with water, and stuck it in the pole and it just slowly drips...I barely have to pay attention to it. My mini monstera is so happy, maybe too happy 😅

Add a mixture of sand and potting soil in the middle 9f moss before you wrap it, keeps the moisture in longer, also you can drill holes in pbc pipe add potting soil, ten cover in moss, the roots will find the soil, make sure to cap pvc pipe at bottom

What do you do to water if you have a plastic tube in the middle of the pole? I bought mine off of amazon and the moss is basically surrounding the tube with the netting. The tube is also used to connect multiple poles. So what do I do? I’ve been misting mine but I don’t think that’s working very well.
