Keeping Rapid City's most vulnerable safe in the winter weather

The vast majority of people watching this video likely have a safe and secure place to stay during winter weather. That doesn’t change the fact that there are those in our community who may not have a definite location to find shelter. As long as that is the case, the RCPD will remain committed to proactively patrolling our community in order to make contact with this vulnerable population to ensure they find a safe and warm place to be during the adverse weather conditions.
Thankfully, there are a variety of resources in place (including the services available at the Pennington County Care Campus) that allow us to be flexible in our efforts to do so. If you encounter somone who looks like they are struggling to find shelter, please call us at 394-4131 and we'll be happy to check up on them. #CommunityFirst
Officer MacKenzie Armstrong is a member of the RCPD's Street Crimes Unit. The SCU is a team of officers committed to utilizing proactive policing techniques to deter crime and keep Rapid City's streets and public places safe. When winter weather hits, officers patrol these common areas in order to ensure the city's vulnerable homeless population had a safe place to retreat to.
