Sometimes we get a bit stuck in the past with heritage homes, fixating on the original build year and forget that the home and society has evolved over 140 years. Queen Bess Row was built in 1886, and ZGA Studio wanted to keep the heritage alive and relevant but in a more contemporary world. Subtle interventions were made during the heritage renovation, including the inclusion of a glass lift, but all was done to not only honour its past but also reflect how we live today.

Thanks for that, took a bit of time re-drawing them as it's a fairly large and complicated place but hopefully they helped to give you an understanding of the home.

I’ll admit, the video doesn’t do the home justice.

Having the lift makes it so much safer to move about the place. People who often climb up and down stairs have a much higher chance or slips, trips and falls.

Exactly. The home belongs to the architect's parents who want to live out their days there, and so mobility and access to the main parts of the home was vital, and the lift accomplishes that.
