It's January and 30°F outside! I don't care how much you love the interior of a cozy little cabin, it feels so good to get outside on the warmer days. I know, some people don't think of 30°F as warm. But we had around -25°F not long ago! Comparatively, this day was beautiful and worthy of some time outdoors.
As we said at the beginning of the video, our wood stove is significantly smaller than the one in Levi's parents' big cabin. So all the firewood we cut this summer is a bit too big for our little stove. It does fit in the stove but it's a pain to squeeze it in there. When we get the chance, we like to go grab some dead-standing spruce out of the forest to make the next few fires a little easier on ourselves!
Plus, Henry and I can't spend every single day in the 200 sqft tiny cabin that we are living in right now. That's a recipe for cabin fever!
Every day we get a little closer to being able to work on our property again! Once I am past the 6-week weight limits from the c-section, I will try out the snowshoes a bit and that will mean I could help cut some trees at the homestead! We will probably do a little winter cutting so that I can start saving smaller dead spruce for my railings in the cabin loft!
I also have big plans to build a natural / spruce moose fence around my garden, which I could start at any time that we cut the trees! Every day that Henry gets a little bigger, we can do a little more. And as always, we have big plans!
Henry is growing like a weed! He is approaching 5 weeks old in this video and over 10lbs already. He loves naps in his wrap and is starting to smile a bit. We've received so many gifts for Henry, thank you to everyone who has sent him sweet little gifts!

Awesome to see you guys out and doing. As a guy that burnt wood for decades I'm a firm believer of it doesn't matter how much wood you have put up. If you have a nice winters day cutting wood was right up there with ice fishing for me. I like being in the woods using my body the way it was intended. Honestly I could spend a day just leisurely splitting wood with axe, wedge and sledge all the while finding pleasure and contentment in the process. I think the fact that you are doing something productive and immediately useful helps even more with the cabin fever. Be safe and enjoy!

You amaze me loading firewood and holding the baby. Good job! I was thinking it would be nice to live in Alaska like you do, but nope==here in Alabama we had 18 degree weather and that was enough for me!!! We can't even operate with just a half inch of snow. BUT LOVE TO WATCH IT! GOOD JOB!

I’m sure it felt great to get out of the cabin. I didn’t realize trees in Alaska could have moss….if that’s what was hanging from the first one Levi cut down. Stay safe & warm. I love seeing Henry on IG.
