Keeping Up With Jones: Traditional Bowhunting for Hogs in California

Come hunt with Larry Jones and I as he takes his recurve bow out into the California foothills in search of wild hogs! Larry was one of the pioneers of elk calling, and of hunting videography, and has taught countless people how to be better and more successful hunters through his videos and writing over his very decorated career as a bowhunter. Larry has a passion for the outdoors that is nothing short of contagious. The knowledge and skill he has acquired over his lifetime as a hunter is amazing, and we are always learning from him. He is a very good friend of ours, and we always have a fantastic time when we get to hunt with him. We hope you enjoy watching this hunt with a bowhunting great!

If you know what “a typical Jones shot” is then you know about Larry Jones. I’ve been watching videos of him trekking through California hunting hogs. High country mule deer. Ironically I used compound bows when I began watching his videos. Now I shoot strictly traditional. Thanks Larry. And I’ve made “a typical Jones shot” or two.

I stayed for dinner after riding dirt bikes all day with Steve, Larry's son. I remember Larry telling Steve get some bear meat out of the freezer. Steve says dad this bear meat is 10 years old. So what said Larry, it's still good. I crapped myself, never eat 10 year old bear meat from Larry's. freezer.

You rock what I don't understand is why Don't don't people know you cannot really well with a recurve bow or traditional bow and you don't need a lot of tension a 45 elbow will do it or 50 found

Well the politics in California are something to behold, but California actually has a lot of hunting and fishing opportunities. Most of the state is not how it seems from TV, Movies and the news. Lots of farmland, rural areas, and some absolutely gorgeous wild spaces.

I've read articles and watched Larry Jones for years. If I remember correctly he used to shoot a Brackenbary 66" recurve, and then a Stalker 66" recurve. Now as for this vid I gotta tell ya I don't think your ready to hunt yet with all the shaking going on when you draw the bow. You are just not strong enough to pull the weight for accurate shot placement. i couldn't tell if you hit the pig and the arrow bounced off or what. Hope you are stronger now though.
