We started with like 15-20 red and blue shrimp and a couple of ramshorn snails in a 10 gallon tank. We later added a couple of vampire shrimp (which are amazing), a couple of endlers, 2 pygmy cories, and some tiny tetras. It has now become somewhat of a breeding tank. There's now a ton of shrimp and snails and a few extra endlers after they also bred. The snails get fed to our pea puffers in another tank. Since mixing the blue and red shrimp, they created some amazing hybrids. There's red and blue, red and white, blue and white, powder blue, black, brown, a few snowballs, brown, some weird color that looks like a mix of a bag of skittles mixed together. There's even a few red, white, and blue which are pretty awesome being in the USA.

I was never able to keep shrimp alive before I started using planted tanks. Now I've got 4 tanks, 1 for each color shrimp I have. They're doing well! Could I ask about more about your red and yellow shrimp colony, I would love to do something similar. You mentioned keeping it for some generations so wanted to ask if you can keep them together with greater success of them keeping their colors even if they crossbreed or if this was temporary? If you can keep them together, were these like red cherry shrimp with just like yellow neons or orange n.d?

I have been running a 30cm / 1ft tank for about 2 years, primarily trying my hand at growing aquatic plants (mostly crypts) - in the last year I have added about 7 'blue dream' shrimp. There was a couple of deaths initially, now there is at least 12 that I have been able to count, maybe more as the baby shrimp are dark at first and with the soil substrate being dark brown to black, they are not easily seen so that they can be counted! The amazing thing about this is that I have not really put any other food in there, maybe the occasional broken up pieces of an algae wafer/pellet, they have been feeding off the bio film the whole time! It makes me wonder if I start putting food like what you have mentioned here in there whether the population grow even more?
