@@ishmael802 No. He was all there when they really rose and fell. He let Hogan and Nash manipulate him. He was there at Starrcade '97, '98 and the finger poke of doom. Those main events being three of the biggest reasons WWF overtook them for good, and many WCW fans jumped ship too.

Disagree. He ended up with the right connections to be part of a couple of podcasts that people wanted to hear. Anyone could cohost with Bruce or Eric and put out good shows because those 2 are the talent with a lot of knowledge that people want to hear discussed.

UOPC, my thoughts exactly. Its not hard nor does it take much talent to end every question with "or was that in-your-end-goes" or argue your opinion with the people who were alive and actually there doing it. I hear some of his opinions and think to myself, did you actually see that in 1988 or did you just read or hear about it on the nerwork because thats not how I remember it.

You guys shitting on Conrad realize that his father in law is Ric Flair right? You realize that Bruce Prichard got back in Vince's good graces to be able to get a job again in wwe Because of the podcast that Conrad convinced Bruce to do? You realize he's the one doing all the research for the shows, coming up with the questions, pushes the envelope, etc.....Bischoff had a podcast previously and it was dogshit, nobody listened, nobody cared then he teamed with Conrad and he's a top wrestling podcast. How about we give Conrad the credit he deserves Not to mention he's in someway involved with AEW

I think that everyone has that love/hate relationship with Connie. Don't get me wrong I love the shows, but there are days where I shut the show/clips off early because I can't with the guy... especially that Something to Wrestle With show with Bruce, that one has gotten God Awful for me. It's sad because when it first came out I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread... but then other shows came out like Bischoff's 83 Weeks and Grilling JR to compare to and Bruce's show is the worst... it only got worse since being hired by WWE cause it seems like he does the show on his time off which he probably doesn't get much time off and he sounds cranky cause he wants to rest but has to do the show for his fans and friend Conrad so he does it.. that's the kind if vibe I get from him now. He doesn't enjoy himself when he does the podcast anymore. Even Eric's podcast kinda sucks too cause he's so thick headed... JR is the best podcast out there, though. I could listen to that show for hours and hours one day on shuffle, and I do by the way.. it's the one podcast for me that never gets old.

Like , listen to Heyman explain one of his storylines. An hour later you have been through every emotional aspect of why he believes what he decided to do was the Right thing to do. Sounds like Bischoff just really got lucky. Shame. I like EB. Kinda wonder if Conrad and Flair set him up on this.

The host randomly dropped in that he didn't think Michael Jordan was the greatest NBA player of all time. The co-host goes nuts, the phone lines light up, they fill the hour. Based on Sting's account of that night, here's what probably happened: An hour before the PPV started, Hogan told Nick Patrick about changes to the match. Nick Patrick looked for Eric to make sure Eric had approved the changes. But Eric was nowhere to be found. So Nick went ahead and did what Hogan told him. This is basically what happened to Sting that night, so I'd imagine the same thing happened to Nick Patrick.

Eric is pretty open about his mistakes, sometimes guys like Conrad and Brian Last do show their “ internet fan” moments. I’m not saying all the time but sometimes the stories that we have heard on line in the late 90s and early 2000‘s were bullshit. Wrestlers like Shane Douglas were malcontents everywhere they worked So if you believe every word they say then you are going to come out believing that the people that ran those companies were evil comic book villain to just sat there and rub their hands together thinking of ways to screw him over. I don’t think Shane ever really wanted to be looked at as just an ECW guy because if you go back and look at his career he left ECW three times. He never worked anywhere else longer than a year. If things didn’t work out his way , he took his ball and went home and ECW would pretty much take anybody so he would have his longest runs would be there but is soon as he could get out he was gone. And every time he came back to ECW we had another WWF or WCW horror story and if it wasn’t for corporate he would’ve been the biggest wrestler ever. That’s why Internet fans always point to the Kliq On why he didn’t have a good run there but it seems like the stories about guys like the undertaker and yokozuna giving him shit about not carrying his own weight get pushed under the rug because then that doesn’t make the Internet story look good.

Yeah that Starrcade 97 arguement made Conrad come off like such a fanboy to me, clinging onto mythos popular among wrestling geeks online. Conrad mentions in this video that he thinks the botched finished was Hogan's call; funny he didn't mention that to Eric. I think he's scared or something to constantly point blame on Hogan when he's talking to Eric because it's the fanboy go to excuse and he's used it enough on Eric. He may not always be right but when he is, Eric really shuts Conrad the fuck up when it comes to these fan conspiracies.

That Starrcade 97 finish is the wrestling equivalent of the Sopranos series finale ending. I know it happened 10 years earlier but its something you'll just never get the answer as to why it ended up so stupid. I think nick Patrick got conflicting information that day and didn't know what to do. What's interesting is you never hear stings side of this. Maybe he didn't care. Maybe he really wasn't prepared to lead the company. I don't know. I'll just never understand why they couldn't do that finish clean and then do a clean finish 2 months later. Ugh. Crow sting was their biggest missed opportunity, character wise, imo. He was super over, but this could've pushed it next level, crossover. Like Austin and Goldberg were later on in 98. Sting had so many potential cool feuds. It didn't have to stop with hogan. Instead, he loses the belt, becomes a lobster and joins the wolfpac, and wrestles for the prestigious us title with bret in a meaningless feud.

Sting actually did have a lot to say about Starrcade '97. I've advanced the video to the part where they start talking about it. He's pretty candid here, but, after this interview, he never goes into great detail in subsequent interviews about what happened. It's pretty revealing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/opOvZ4WEd6-ZqZY BTW, I disagree that they did a clean finish at SuperBrawl. Sting had to fight off nWo interference (fine), but Macho clocked Hogan over the head with a can of spray paint just as Hogan was getting up. So, once again, Sting needed outside help to ultimately win the match.

There's a reason why Bischoff never bothered renewing his old show with Hausman and wanted Conrad. He said he wanted Conrad because he would challenge him (like the Starrcade 97 episode) and ask questions other hosts would avoid. I don't understand why internet marks are such haters when there could be ZERO content or maybe just odd guest appearances on other podcasts like the old days. Some episodes like watch-alongs with Tony are lazily thrown together, and I hate any episodes with Casio or where they play newer music to show how "uncool" and old Tony is but I'm grateful to listen to otherwise excellent shows at my desk at work that wouldn't exist without Conrad.

Hey Conrad- I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE END OF WCW was when over-rated ATM Bischoff paid 3 million guaranteed dollars for Bret Hart and then shockingly didn't know what to do with his new high priced talent who was absolutely red hot due to The Screw Job. Time Warner, who didn't want WCW to begin with, probably said that's it, enough of ATM, and probably began plans to end or sell WCW. What about that?
@StuUngar
@StuUngar 5 жыл бұрын
Ive always argued against the “Bret Hart was the hottest thing in wrestling” narrative. First off, Bret was never that over in the first place. Maybe in Germany, maybe in Canada, but he was a B level world champion in terms of drawing ability. Second, he was a MASSIVE heel. The internet was a still a luxury item in 1997. Very few people knew what was going on with Bret behind the scenes. Because he had dogged the shit out of Americans for the better part of the year, why would they get outraged when he was screwed. Hell, watch Wrestling With Shadows and listen to the American fans before Summerslam 97. We’ve been led to believe that all of those fans were pissed when Bret was screwed. If anything, they would’ve cheered Bret getting screwed. Third, look at his debut. He gets an ok response. But it wasn’t Chris Jericho’s debut. It wasn’t DDP taking off his mask. It was very ho-hum. If Bret was “red hot” like Bret has been proclaiming forever, why weren’t the fans going apeshit? If he was red hot, the response from his debut would’ve looked like Rock’s WWE return. The sad part is, for parts of his initial WCW entrance, the crowd is dead silent. Fourth, I was in school and had a ton of friends who were wrestling fans. Literally no one cared that Bret was screwed. They didn’t even really know what had happened, nor did they care. All they knew was Bret was in WCW now, which...again, wasn’t a big deal. What all wrestling fans were talking about at the time was Sting vs Hogan and Stone Cold Steve Austin. In summation, I think Bischoff’s biggest mistake was signing Bret to a large contract. Vince claims he “couldn’t afford it.” Yet he offered Ultimate Warrior a multimillion dollar contract in December of 97. He offered an even bigger contract to Hulk Hogan in January of 98. Then he paid 6 million to Tyson. Vince simply recognized that he entered into a bad deal with Bret and that Bret wasn’t worth 1.5 million a year. Vince wanted out, and Vince realized that Bret going to WCW wasn’t going to have much impact on the WWF.
@StuUngar
@StuUngar 5 жыл бұрын
To your other point. AOL Time Warner wanted nothing to do with WCW period. Ted Turner loved his wrestling and he loved the Atlanta Braves. Once Turner lost control of Turner, they sold all interest in Turner’s sports teams. But they especially wanted nothing to do with wrestling. Pro wrestling is more mainstream than it was back then. People would literally make fun of you for watching it. Happened to me several times as a kid before it got really popular. You think a bunch of uppity tv and internet people that want to walk red carpets wanted anything to do with wrestling? Which was seen as lowbrow hillbilly carny entertainment for idiots. If WCW was making money hand over first during the AOL merger, they probably would’ve survived longer. But TNT would’ve canceled them at the first sign of trouble.

StuUngar I too was in school then and Austin aside, the screw job was talked about as much as anything until Starrcade 1997. Bret was the hottest heel in the business, without question, he should have walked right into WCW after Starrcade and challenged Sting. That would’ve been huge. Instead he was stuck in tags with Hogan, mid-card matches with Flair and then Sting when it was too late. Not to mention that he was still a phenomenal worker and 1997 was arguably his best year ever. On the mic he was great as a heel and when he first came in he should’ve been allowed to cut promos of the length that Hogan would ramble on for.
