Been saying it from Day 1! I’m now 38, I grew up watching wrestling from around 1990/1991 onwards, and I don’t remember people being this weird about it around my age 🤷🏻‍♂️ … like, we all liked Hogan, Warrior, Sid, Flair, Sting, Bret, Shawn, Diesel/Nash, Razor/Hall, Austin, Rock, Undertaker etc. and back then the shit was - for the most part - sensible, although some of the story shit was beyond stupid with Vince leaning into fantasy shit too much and then WCW under Russo being a complete haemorrhoid! Tony Khan should have been building AEW with simple 1+1=2 booking. Simple, logical, easy to follow, and from the very beginning it’s been overbooked and overcomplicated

He even switched the matches thinking that Nigel vs Danielson would bring all the old ROH nerds that remembered their rivalry since ROH took place around there a lot in the early 2010s, and it hasn’t helped at all. All the marks that remember are already gonna be there and that equals about 4k people🤣 It’s just crazy to me that Meltzer and Tony Khan both thought this PWG bingo hall/booking simulator game style of wrestling would appeal to the wide mainstream fans out there, and they can’t handle it now that they’re seeing that most people don’t care for it they make any excuse as to why instead of actually trying to fix it and bring people back. The WWE is definitely not perfect but at least they’re telling stories and for the most part they’re logical and easy to follow through the show, and that’s obviously what’s connecting with more people. Crazy, right?

AEW did the same thing in the Danielson vs Swerve match. Even though the match was already booked, Danielson put up his entire career as a stipulation and got nothing out of it. I think Danielson and Nigel wanted the match before he retired. When Darby won the spot it was probably before they figured out for sure the plan with Danielsons retirement...Now they know theyd rather Mox get the title shot...Danielson still wants nigel ...They gotta fit both matches in, Grandslam is a big show but it's on TV, Save the bigger match for the PPV. Mox retires Danielson..or atleast he's credible enough for us to believe it ....Nigel and Darby aren't retirement matches, and aren't gonna make us think so...Mox is a retirement match..If not atleast the crowd could believe it....I want it to be Swerve or MJF.

Well, why would anything involving Tony’s booking, since he’s been booking like a mark would for the last 5 years, be a surprise anymore? He got away with his booking for the first couple years, mainly because his booking was being compared to Vince’s booking, which by time AEW started had already become so nonsensically atrocious that he made Tony look like a fucking genius booker. But, just like how it was back in the territory days, where the bookers were almost always either a still active veteran wrestler or a retired one, that’s who is booking WWE now that Vince is gone. Triple H knows WTF he’s doing because he was always a student of the game and has grown a deep understanding of the business. He was first taught all about ring psychology during his training by Killer Kowalski and then he was able to learn over his decades in the business as a active wrestler, all about the psychology of booking too, which is why his booking makes fucking sense. Since Triple H took over booking WWE, he’s inadvertently exposed that besides being good at booking dream matches and put together strong PPV cards, which any basement mark could do, Tony doesn’t know how the fuck to do anything else as a booker. Tony doesn’t have that booking knowledge because he was never in the business before he started AEW, nor has sought out someone who could teach him all that shit. Now however, mainly thanks to ole Uncle Dave blowing smoke up his a$$ since AEW started, by constantly praising his booking, Tony now believes he knows WTF he’s doing as a booker and probably thinks that he doesn’t needs to learn anything else because all of Uncle Dave’s newsletter readers voted him Booker of the Year, 3 consecutive years. But, I’m not surprised about anything that involves Tony nowadays because I’ve been a devoted listener to both of Jim Cornette’s podcasts since 2017 and pretty much everything Cornette’s been saying about AEW since the start, before anyone else was saying it too, he’s been right about.

They could have done a better job with the story but I understand why atleast. I think Moxley should have caught up with Darby the week before and had this conversation. Ending it with a beat down. So then Darby shows up mad and atleast has a reason to agree to the fight lol Nigel needs to keep saying Danielson is a coward every week if he don't show, almost to the point of being annoying....Hit heavy on the point Danielson still isn't booked for the show....Do this until the night of when Danielson music hits.
