The interaction wasn't to do with the lyrics or an in-joke, they often gather around Akane (drummer) and make faces and stuff at her to try and get her to mess up.

I just want to see what happens when Akane does finally mess up, unless you're a drummer I doubt we'd even be able to tell she messed up (I doubt she'd mess up big enough we could anyway) but I wanna know if she'd give them some kind of angry stern look what you made me do face or just smile and laugh. I hope it would be angry as that'd make a great thumbnail however it would probably just be smiling and laughing so we'd still have no idea she fudged it.

While that’s usually true, there is an in joke on this one. In the previous show Miku messed up the lyrics in her bit of this song, so Kanami is watching her to make sure she gets it right this time.

Their transitions are so fluid and have the ability to make things work that usually shouldn't work.....Kanami is one of the best song writers out there. "Sing a guitar solo".....interesting, I've never heard that but makes sense. these girls will NEVER go too far with their talent, never too much and always leave you wanting more. Akane is one of the cleanest, with being hard hitting, drummers I've ever heard, and I've been around for a while. DR, check out the official music video of "Manners", I know you'll like it, the video is stunning. There's a LIVE studio stream version too but the OMV is a masterpiece......Cheers

Akane is not only one of the best drummers out there, she's definitely the happiest! Funny you mention the Zeppelin sound (who I was lucky enough to see back in 79) as Jimmy Page famously went backstage after a Band-Maid set to ask Akane for a selfie. Interesting comments about the change from verse to chorus as there is a concept that lead guitarist (Obi-Wan) Kanami uses when composing Band-Maid song music and she once described it as "The Gap is about verse and chorus. In most Band-Maid’s songs, the verse is usually made for the instrumental part to shine, to show case musicianship while the chorus, in contrast, is made for the vocal part and the melody to shine. This ‘gap’ provides an interesting journey for listeners when enjoying our songs." The contrast you mentioned Tony is so important in music - For some bands it's a contrast of volume (think of bands like The Pixies, or the song It's Oh So Quiet by Bjork) and it's great to see Band-Maid adopt a contrast to accentuate the chorus. I love it!

I believe the Maids are deadly serious about practice and hard work and craft and are so skilled and practiced they can experience the joy of playing music. They remind me of a group that can make a movie like Hard Days Night or Help like the Beatles. So many bands take themselves so seriously 🙄 but the Maids are playful and engaged with each other and the audience. I hope they an active world domination soon and foster a mini 🎬 movie on Netflix.

"Singing the guitar solo" is a very interesting concept. It means that the solo is part of the song, not detracting from it. I might suggest that you could also sing Akane's drum solos and most of Misa's bass solos as well. This is because everything BAND-MAID does is in service of the music not the individual. That's what makes them my favourite band.

It is an In Joke. The interaction is a softer version of what they did to Akane in 'Domination' LIVE. They go and bug her or make funny faces at her during the hard drum parts to try and make her laugh or otherwise mess her up. Not a chance in hell. She is a machine. The moment she locks into Kanami's backing tracks she is a metronome.

True the song structures were pretty standard through their first 4 EP/Albums and this is from their 3rd album. That does start to change a bit on their 5th album, World Domination where they experiment a little and becomes more pronounced on their following releases like Conqueror, Unseen World (See “No God”, “Giovanni”) and the most recent Sense release (see Hibana & Corallium). You’ll see quite a progression to more complexity over time and a more layered soundscape. But they never lose the fun or the simpler elements, particularly in their choruses, that makes a great rock song, imho 🤷🏻‍♂️😀 To see something newer, I’d recommend jumping to: “No God” - official live video Take care and rock on 🤘🏼✌🏼😃

They have tons of tranistions and bridges and breakdowns- they dont just go verse chorus verse chorus. You might not have noticed yet but also, every chorus will be diferent - 2nd and 3rd chorus will always be more intricate with extra bits than the first. Then they havemuch more experimental kinda tracks too. The more pop styled catchiest songs are closest to being fairly simple structure wise but as i said even those will have a lot of little extras you might miss. And yes- their image/outfits- its no different than like a metal bands leather and chains- or a band like KISS with their makeup - that isnt their day to day wear- its part of portraying what the band is about.

It would appear that Miku had messed up the lyrics on a previous occasion, which must have been embarrassing given that she wrote them! I'm pretty sure that she's working hard to suppress a giggle at the end.

There are 200+ Rock/Metal bands in Japan with something like half all Female. So bands have to be noticed and creating a "Gap look" is a way to do that. So Miku Kobato, band founder ( lyricist, rhythm guitar, spokes pigeon) having worked in a Maid Cafe came up with the concept of Band Maid. The Gap is the difference in what you are seeing "Demure Maids" vs what you are hearing Hard Rock. Many bands in Japan use the "Gap" to get noticed. Today the ladies refer to the maid costumes as their "Battle Armor"!! Also, many commenters are giving the impression that Kanami is THE song writer. Kanami writes the basic song with the beat wanted, that goes to MISA and Akane for their fills, which are not altered very much to the final song. Once the music is established it goes to Miku for her lyrics, completing the song for going into the studio for final engineering and production. FYI, per MISA Miku is their Producer.

You wanna know what they are doing in that interaction with the Akane lol? They are pulling silly faces at her to try and make her mess up! She doesn't and makes some back lol. This is something they do now and then- its not common but its not a once off. They all have fun on stage together :) I think thats more important than taking ever second dead seriously! Also, they are good enough musicians that they can mess about some and NOT make a mistake anyways. p.s I dunno if that was a kanami quote about solos but she feels that way too. She has said solo's should all be memorable- and that they should always serve and fit into the song. Thats why all her solos are 10-30 seconds long max- not 2 minute long interuptions to the song just for showing off.

You'll actually find as you explore more songs, that in many of their songs, they actually do the opposite of the "standard verse/chorus, etc." They're known actually for NOT being predictable - at pretty much anything. That's okay though, the ones you've listened to are probably the simpler ones - you'll see... a couple of examples that I'd recommend are "Blooming", "No God" and "Black Hole" - and there are many, many more. These ladies also have a way of getting under your skin the farther you get along, and you'll need a daily fix!

When they're gathered around they're playing a Japanese game. Fengao? Something like that. It translates as funny face. They are trying to make Akane the drummer laugh by making funny faces at her. A lot of Japanese bands do that. Band Maid is more of a band than a show. True enough. If you want to see Japanese Slipknot that is Babymetal. They are a show. Babymetal puts on a better show than Slipknot. Even Corey Taylor is a fan of Babymetal.
