Talk about Summer to Remember!Your trip brought back memories of our trip to Charlottesville summer 2006 when we rented a class C RV with our 3 daughters and went to visit colleges -UVA and Thomas Jefferson home on the list before camping in Shenandoah Park! This was our 1st RV trip ever so Newbies doesn’t begin to describe the adventure. 1st major snag-in historic downtown Charlottesville looking for parking and came across a railroad bridge just about to drive under when Mike stops in the middle of the curved road and says what does that sign say?? the rig too tall to go under the bridge! Then began the 15 point turn in the RV with stopped traffic in both directions and our 3 teenage girls cowering in hopes no body would recognize them! We still talk about that trip with the grandkids now and how really beautiful the area is. Many more VA stories for sure so thanks for the memories

I am glad you guys took the time to explore my back yard. Virginia may not have the mountain peaks like Colorado or the worlds largest volcano like Wyoming but we do offer some of the most scenic drives in America. The I81 corridor from North Carolina to West Virginia is the longest section of that interstate and one that offers beautiful views and lots of things to do and see. Hope you guys enjoyed your visit. P.S. Devils Backbone Brewery is a national brewery now owned by Budweiser with 2 locations in Charlottesville.

It's beautiful. Granddaughter went to James Madison Univ in Harrisonburg VA.... it's right around where you were, because we've been to the cider place! When she graduated from college.. she and friends started in So VA and did 1500 MILES of the Appalachian Trail! Unbelievable country. Glad you enjoyed it. AND, in the fall she's going to grad school at UVA in Charlottesville and live in The Range... built by Thomas Jefferson! :) You might be able to tell that I'm pretty proud of her!

Going to do Shenandoah and Blue Ridge this year for 3 weeks in June. Last year we did it for a month about the same part of the year. Had a great time. Some of the areas didn't have cell phone service and had to make sure you put stuff away at night because of bears. In one place we got visited twice in one night by bears. you have to be careful and they won't bother you. If you are 65 and above get your senior pass. You get into the parks free and government campgrounds are 1/2 price. A lot to see and do.

I used to drive the Skyline Drive and camp in Lewis Mountain back in the early 1970’s. I spent a month every summer in Charlottesville, so traveling the Skyline Drive made so much sense. My husband and I owned an MGB convertible and we loved driving it on that magnificent route. We were joined on Lewis Mountain by his parents and little brother. Those were wonderful times. We used to camp for several days there. I was in my early twenties and could hike and climb so easily. Now, I use a cane and walker. It is wonderful to look back and remember those experiences.

I landed in Charlottesville, toured Thomas Jefferson's place, and ended up staying two more days! That's because I stayed in Shenandoah, along the river, canoed on the river, then took the trail in the Shenandoah Valley in mid-late, October and saw the Fall colors. That was an amazing trip, and no doubt, the shoulder of Spring would have been equally enjoyable!

Please note at Devils Backbone, full hookups, the water and electric posts are every other site x2. Meaning, one site has the hookups on the back of a camper as normal, but then the next site will need to run water and electric under your camper and through your camp side and hookup to the back of the next camper's site. You NEED more than 20-25' of each. While I was told that we could borrow their backups, apparently people ruined it and didn't return them. They don't have extras, at least in 2021. We found an auto repair place in town who actually sells camping gear. They were out of stock of water hoses, so a run to Walmart which wasn't close. Now we're setup with an extension for the electrical cord and shorter water hose that has come in handy when not needing a 25' hose. But, if you don't have these beforehand / already, then expect a hour or two driving to hunt them down or you won't have full hookups there.

Virginia looks like a beautiful place with a lot of interesting history and things to see and do! I live in Arkansas. We take our camper and travel mostly close to home. There are so many beautiful things to see and do right here at home that I will not live long enough to see them all. I was born and raised here and have been enjoying all of the natural beauty right here. I am 67 years old and have been at that task my whole life. You are showing us the very best of the very best. You want to touch a waterfall? Come visit Arkansas. We have right at 400 named falls and many that are not. Some are very easy to get to and see and some are very dangerous and requires serious hiking and climbing skills. Many you can stand under and have nice swimming holes to enjoy. Come and touch a waterfall here, that is an open invitation.

Last Fall my daughter in Port Orchard took me to a similar 1st homesteading near her in WA with the hen house, smoke house, stable, early games, caretakers house, and the bunk house. Again the history of the early settlers. Can’t wait for the National parks you will be seeing this season. Safe travels.
