Just in case there is any confusion, we wanted to rent from a private owner and thought we did. The reviews were decent and we did enjoy the Travato van. When we arrived, there were 20+ RVs in the backyard. We were trying to avoid rental companies, but it's getting hard to figure out by the listing alone. The black talk valve was left open and it's shocking the cap did such a great job not showing a problem before... well, you know what happened 💩😳😡

Things I learned from your National Lampoon Vacation. 1. Don’t rent an RV. 2. If you have a flicker of doubt, default to rule one. 3. Even the best plans can fail. 4. When failure comes, hope your significant other is there to lift you. I’m amazed how well you guys function as a team, last rental it was Trish that was down with Mark salvaging the trip. This trip it was Mark that was down with Trish doing the lifting, great couple. BTW, your black tank accident reminded me of the saying, “tragedy is me getting a paper cut, comedy is a person falling into a cesspool”, sorry 😂, not sorry Mark.

I loved Charlie's additional information. Hilarious!! I have learned to always check my valves whenever I stop somewhere, before I leave my campsite and when I set-up my campsite. Was traveling, stopped at a store a some jerky pulled both my valves. Didn't realize it until I pulled into a full hook-up site and went to set-up. When everything came out I thought my lines where broken!! I was pretty new and didn't realize the handles has been pulled. Luckily the couple parked next to me had witnessed everything and came over to help. What a blessing they were to me. They are still good friends to this day.

My first rental almost turned me off on getting an RV. The "leather" was peeling on the seats...smelled like urine...AC didn't work and it was 95 degrees and there was a soft area in floor that I thought was going to cave in. I realized I wasn't going to get the "real" experience by renting. Bought/ordered a 2021 Rockwood Mini Lite with theatre seating and twin beds. Husband and I have enjoyed our camper but now in the market for a Class C. Want to take our 2 small grandchildren on trips but need something with auto everything and easier to park and set up at our age. Thanks for taking one for the team by renting the motorized RV's so we can get a feel for it. I hate renting anything...hotel rooms, RV's...condos...houses...etc. Thanks and take care!

I’m glad that I’m paranoid, I always double check the waste valve and never, never, never use a hose by a dump station for fresh water. I purchased a new 59K in 2017 also. I have received offers, in writing, to purchase my van for what I paid for it. From the RV dealership and the Dodge dealership. They are currently selling at twice as much of what we paid. Full-time, four years, I love it. The van easily tows a 6 x 10 enclosed cargo trailer. It is important to get an actual spare tire. Even if you don’t always carry it with you., you always have access to one. I just picked one up at my local tire guy for $320. Same exact tire with stock rim. Open Businesses and assistance is not always available

Sandra Westley from the UK we must be very fortunate in that our black waste is in a special building on its own, so no fresh water could be confused with the black, also we pay extra and choose a pitch with water on tap and waste water straight into the drain. The toilet as we call it is in a portable tank which has wheels and a special area at the back of the main toilets and shower block is the emptying for the back tank.

I wouldn't trade it for anything, but holy moly if I were to recommend anything, start smaller hahaha. Check local outdoorsy listings, pick a small rig and take it for a long weekend somewhere in state (particularly if you know the place). Take the time to really go over the rig with whomever you're renting from, and build a checklist with them. I would definitely say that there's nothing to be intimidated about. Just take your time, don't make any real strict plans and roll with it. You'll either have a great time or a great story. :)

I can so relate to Marc’s experience. When we first got our used Winnebago, my daughter and a friend drove it back home. I had purchased a Valterra valve to add as I had seen on many RV videos suggested, but when I removed the cap I was accosted by the most vile surprise. The unfortunate design on the Minnie Winnie is the black tank and valve are on the opposite side so the handle runs all the way across the rig, and is difficult to get closed. That end of line valve is the best add on ever.

Seeing this happen at least made me feel a little better about my first time dumping. We bought a used travel trailer over the winter, which is a less than ideal time for such a purchase. We had our first trip booked for the end of May. Well we had a bit of crazy warm weather in April and took advantage to go camping for the weekend. April is too early to de-winterize up here in upstate NY, but we did bring water and used the gray and black tanks. Well, the same thing happened to me, the forward gray tank gate valve was open. I discovered it when packing up since it was dripping out the cap. Well the gate valve is about 10 feet upsteam from the cap. So, when I took the cap off at the dump station, all that water rushed out. At least it was gray water!

Oh my. I accidently dumped my black tank when I was in an RV park. I was getting hooked up and needed to dump the tank from being on the road. So, I had taken the cap off the black tank, all was good. But, I had not hooked up the sewer hose, bad idea. I then proceeded to remove the electrical hose that somehow got hooked over the black tank pull and opened the black tank, woosh, OMG, it was awful. The RV manager came running over with some kind of approved sanitizer for such emergencies. I was so mortified. I through away my shoes and socks, so disgusting. All the neighbors watched in horror. Never made that mistake again. I so feel for you. That aside. The trip looked so beautiful.

My husband always tells me to get in there and see if it feels level. 2 tests I use.... open the cabinet doors to see which ones swing closed or swing open as there are doors on both sides of the camper. Then I climb to the bed and stretch out. If my head feels right I say it’s level. Of course most of our adventures are SOP (seat of pants). Our refrigerator makes ice even with the propane setting. I put water in ice cube trays at night and have ice in the morning.

Migraines are no fun, I get 1-3 a week. Best to take care of yourself than trying to plow through them. I almost hate the migraine hangover brain fog that can last a day or two after, more than the pain. Marc made the right move. My wife takes care of me on my migraine days.

We've had our class b for 16 years now and over that time period we've been barraged by requests to rent it out. The answer is always NO. I love our van and it's always clean, well loved and it's my daily driver. It seems a lot of new rv'ers need to go to rv class first. Our neighbor has lent his trailer out several times and has had problems every time it's been returned.

That's the problem. There are exceptions, but generally speaking, RVs for rent are no longer cared for by the owner. It can be done right, but nice well maintained rigs are sure hard to find.

Oh man I feel so bad for you Marc. When stuff goes wrong like that my wife likes to just say "adventure!" to me. She's basically throwing my words back at me when I talked her into going into this RV lifestyle with me. I think I may have said "It will be an adventure" one time. I'll never live it down. The convenience of the van is appealing but we definitely like having our space of the TT for our longer outings. (6 months) Keep living the dream guys!

Enjoyed the part that Charlie was in. So sorry about the black tank but great job at fixing it up. But out side of that looks to me your enjoying live. Awesome that you spent time with family and Marc's Dad's birthday. Stay safe and thanks.

I think the water hose at the dump site is for flushing the black tank, not filling your fresh water tank.

This was one of your funnier videos of late! This is always our concern on renting RV's, but it seems like a good way to figure out what you really want. Thanks for this series.

Your production in the past two seasons has been over the top. Don't go getting hired by some huge TV or Movie outlet and leaving your channel. Great episode.

I agree with some of the others that when you tried Class A you should have tried a gas model. We have a gas Class A, tow a Jeep and have a washer and dryer on board, which makes it easy to keep up with that task. A lot of times we don't have a trip time table, so we stop for the night when we feel like it. We used to have pick-up campers. I think you forgot to try one.

Wow, thanks for taking one for the team to show us real life! Stunning photography with the drone footage. Love watching you every week.

Just for your safety, if the air bag releases, it would split your hips, please don't put your feet on the dashboard. Just caring. Love your videos. We have a class B, and love the freedom.

“Can I turn this off?” NO. Marc’s red face says it all. 😳 not the best rental experience! You guys are still the best KZbin channel ever for travel and movie level video production. The paddle board sequence was just gorgeous! And you both are still laughing. ❤️ from Texas!

I was set up for a poopsie when we got our fifth wheel from the dealership. It was my first rv and I noticed all the handles were pulled out. Fortunately I figured it out. Thanks to the university of youtube I also learned about adding the valtera valve. You definitely handled it better than I would have.

Things I learned from this episode: 1: how happy I am that you didn't present that to us in color. 2: How scary serious Marc can get...so stay on his good side 3: How happy I was to see the sarcasm come back after that horrible event. 4: How funny Charlie is. 5: How important that check list is...and now adding "check your black tank" to it is a good idea. 6: How thankful I am that you guys show it all...not just the good stuff...even the gross stuff (but not too graphically! LOL!) 7: Burn the shoes...maybe the clothes...

I really felt for you on the accident at the dump station. My problem was my black tank valve was letting black water by to the cap. I fixed it with an add on valve. No problem now.

Love your videos ... and since I lived in Flagstaff for 10 years... LOVE the country. Jerome WAS a ghost town when I was last there.... we snuck into the mine shafts which were empty to explore. Love how you keep positive despite things that aren't so...... can't wait to see what's next!

Reality video and a lesson for all of us who rent: Check absolutely everything before leaving the depot. I even do this with Wilderness in NZ, after a problem with a different company. Their staff are patient and seem to appreciate it. That was a gross discovery Marc 🤢 and you were courageous to keep the camera rolling and not explode like the tank!

Charlie is the best narrator out there. Only he can describe a Poopsie 💩 with class. Add check the dump leavers to the checklist.

The checklist! To make sure you bring everything you need on the trip and to ensure you don’t leave anything behind when you’re done.

As someone who suffers from migraines, I will tell you that one of my "triggers" is mold. Mold under mattresses due to constant condensation is a problem in some vans. It's possibly what caused Tricia's migraine.
