We really enjoyed the Class B #VanLife and can see why so many people do it! The rental process however is another story and this episode is the straw that broke the camel's back. We're still excited to share motorized RVing this season so stay tuned for a new plan and a lot more adventure!

Mistakes happen and we've made our fair share, from broken awnings to broken windows-but they are easier to handle when it's our own fault. We really enjoyed the Class B and can see why so many people like "Van Life." However, the process of renting RVs has been riddled with small issues that make the experience difficult and take some of the "magic" away from the trial. Just in case there is any confusion, we wanted to rent from a private owner and thought we did. The reviews were decent and we did enjoy the Travato van. When we arrived, there were 20+ RVs in the backyard. We were trying to avoid rental companies, but it's getting hard to figure out by the listing alone. The black talk valve was left open and it's shocking the cap did such a great job not showing a problem before... well, you know what happened 💩😳😡

Things I learned from your National Lampoon Vacation. 1. Don’t rent an RV. 2. If you have a flicker of doubt, default to rule one. 3. Even the best plans can fail. 4. When failure comes, hope your significant other is there to lift you. I’m amazed how well you guys function as a team, last rental it was Trish that was down with Mark salvaging the trip. This trip it was Mark that was down with Trish doing the lifting, great couple. BTW, your black tank accident reminded me of the saying, “tragedy is me getting a paper cut, comedy is a person falling into a cesspool”, sorry 😂, not sorry Mark.

I’m glad that I’m paranoid, I always double check the waste valve and never, never, never use a hose by a dump station for fresh water. I even bleach spray the water hookup at the campsite and bleach wipe inside campground bathrooms. I know it’s overboard, but working 35 years at a pharmaceutical company engrained certain cleanliness protocols lol.

I did my first rental with my girls last year. Rented a 36' class A and drove it 1800 miles to Colorado lol. I wouldn't trade it for anything, but holy moly if I were to recommend anything, start smaller hahaha. Check local outdoorsy listings, pick a small rig and take it for a long weekend somewhere in state (particularly if you know the place). Take the time to really go over the rig with whomever you're renting from, and build a checklist with them. I would definitely say that there's nothing to be intimidated about. Just take your time, don't make any real strict plans and roll with it. You'll either have a great time or a great story. :)

We rented a privately owned, Class C from a ... what do you call them, a broker? Had a wonderful time in Southern Utah. We paid for damage insurance which was fortuitous because the broker said we put $4,000 worth of scratches on the paint. Class C's and B's are not like the tow-ables you've had where you have all the comforts of home in nearly the same way as at home - a residential refrigerator; washer/dryer - come on! Also, a mass-produced B's are tow-able wannabes: they try to cram too much in a small platform. Point is: A, B, C truck camper, teardrop, whatever, are all different; there are trade offs - you've made this point in earlier videos. Choose the one for your lifestyle. We had a Sprinter extended cargo van converted into a B. At 24 ft and more than 5 tons, well, lets just say that even with 4 wheel drive she can't go everywhere. The thing I dislike the most with our custom B is the lack of independent mobility once at our destination. I could fix that by towing a small car but I don't want to tow. That's my trade off.

My first rental almost turned me off on getting an RV. The "leather" was peeling on the seats...smelled like urine...AC didn't work and it was 95 degrees and there was a soft area in floor that I thought was going to cave in. I realized I wasn't going to get the "real" experience by renting. Bought/ordered a 2021 Rockwood Mini Lite with theatre seating and twin beds. Husband and I have enjoyed our camper but now in the market for a Class C. Want to take our 2 small grandchildren on trips but need something with auto everything and easier to park and set up at our age. Thanks for taking one for the team by renting the motorized RV's so we can get a feel for it. I hate renting anything...hotel rooms, RV's...condos...houses...etc. Thanks and take care!

I purchased a new 59K in 2017 also. I have received offers, in writing, to purchase my van for what I paid for it. From the RV dealership and the Dodge dealership. They are currently selling at twice as much of what we paid. Full-time, four years, I love it. The van easily tows a 6 x 10 enclosed cargo trailer. It is important to get an actual spare tire. Even if you don’t always carry it with you., you always have access to one. I just picked one up at my local tire guy for $320. Same exact tire with stock rim. Open Businesses and assistance is not always available

Was traveling, stopped at a store a some jerky pulled both my valves. Didn't realize it until I pulled into a full hook-up site and went to set-up. When everything came out I thought my lines where broken!! I was pretty new and didn't realize the handles has been pulled. Luckily the couple parked next to me had witnessed everything and came over to help. What a blessing they were to me. They are still good friends to this day.

Been there , done that . After three days of using our trailer , I got ready to drain the tanks . Only the last time I dumped , some someone (me) did not close the valves . Funny now , won't make that mistake again . You know what happens when you shove the cap back on to the outlet with full tanks and the valves open ? It It sprays in a 360 degree circle . There is no where to run !

Always enjoy your videos!! You and Robin Williams in "RV" ROFL!! Reminded my husband (again) do NOT use the fresh water hose hear a dump station! BTW, when I forgot my level (we have 28-ft long Airstream), I used a clear glass of water - if the water is level, so is whatever it's sitting on. :-)

Don't do full hook ups in a van if you plan to be moving a lot. Just plug in. That's the secret. No need for full hookups unless the van isn't moving for a week. When you need to go, just unplug the cord and leave it and drive off.

Like many owners, We NEVER rent or loan it out...too many things can go wrong.

I love watching your videos, I'm living my rv dreams vicariously through you and I appreciate it. One other thing and I'm sure you're going to hear this from a thousand people but I just have to say, putting your feet up on the dashboard is extremely dangerous for you, if you had an accident the damage you would sustain will be exponentially worse than it would have been had you been sitting normally.

Call me impressed Marc in the way you handled the explosive situation. 👏🏻👏🏻 😂. I’ve dreamed of a van life for years now. Remote spots, pick up and go, enjoying the great outdoors all sound great to me. Beautiful footage of AZ in these videos. Looking forward to next week’s ad-van-ture. 😁 Hope there is a boat rental in your future.

Great video, as always, only part way thru. Had to stop, actually my wife made me. She's suffered from migraines off and on for years. If it's a true migraine your best bet is Excedrin Migraine. You're pretty young to have a "Migraine" this debilitating especially if it's your first....might want to get it checked out. Doug & Jen from Scottsdale, looking out for you. ps, Cliffs Welding rocks.

That is a pretty cool looking van. Much bigger than I anticipated. I hate migraines. I get them once in awhile. I usually take Excedrin Migraine and use a very cold cloth on my forehead or on the back of my neck. And yes, MSG will trigger one. Oh, caffeine helps. Truly. PS. thank you so much for not showing us actual footage of the poopsie. I love Charlie chiming in.

Migraines are no fun, I get 1-3 a week. Best to take care of yourself than trying to plow through them. I almost hate the migraine hangover brain fog that can last a day or two after, more than the pain. Marc made the right move. My wife takes care of me on my migraine days.

Maybe add check tank valve handles to the precheck? I think you are really mad because you know if the bike rack was not an issue you would have checked them and averted disaster. FYI I have a pair of boots I wear in the barn you can use next time you rent an RV and save your shoes. Glad that was the worst thing that happened to you when renting, I thought it was going to be like when we checked in a hotel and the bedding very obviously had not been changed on a bed. My 8 year old son was sure someone had been murdered there and even switching rooms was not going to be enough to get him to stay there. Stay safe and healthy.

Bummer you guys had bad luck renting RVs. Man oh man,....I would have lost my mind if that "poopsie" happened to us. Yes, definitely rent directly from OWNERS only via "Outdoorsy APP." We were lucky to have good luck renting through "Outdoorsy" App trying all sorts of Class B Winnebago Revel, Class A Thor ACE and Class C Winnebago View. We met so many nice owners. We treated their RVs like our own. We chose the Class C Winnebago View 2021 and WE LOVE IT. Safe travels

I follow the same rule…. I NEVER get fresh water at the “potable water” spigot at the dump station. You never know what the last person did. They could have never washed their hands. They probably connect the hose that they also used to flush their black tank… EEEW!!

Exactly why I will never ever: *Rent a rig *Buy a used rig *ever fill water from where you dump. *ever fill water with a hose I do not own (or know where its been last.) Thanks for thee reinforcement of my above rules.... Great vid! Good continuity! Great van!!! 1st time viewer I just subscribed ! But you coulda taken more Frames per second on that Fantastic Cake!!!! Great video, in spite of, or maybe because of, the #%&^*@...issues. Trish: please, please, PLEASE don't ride with your feet up on the dash/air bag. I know it's comfortable and a nice change of position but in over 40 years of EMS, I've seen some horrific injuries caused by airbags deploying launching knees into faces, chests, open leg fractures and so on. As you might imagine it isn't pretty... Thanks for the channel...!

BTW Marc: That was not my green Beaver in the background @ 21:34. But we did stay at Verde Valley RV resort ONCE- And It was only open for a couple weeks. We Too.. Had a bad day that day. and we "Resorted" to staying there. Very sparse, Rather hot. and no trees. But we were happy for the 50 amps to run the AC units. We never really left the inside of the coach that weekend. In Hindsight. We should have turned east on 260 and gone back to Zane Grey RV Village. Trish mentioned Clear Creek, Zane Grey is next door and with our limited local travels, is the best campground we have stayed at THREE times...

Wow that is a pretty poopy situation. We spent some time working at campgrounds and I can't even begin to tell you how many people we helped who had rented an RV and had no idea how to use it. The RV companies who rent are terrible and just don't care about anything but making a profit. The poor renters are almost always stuck with problems the company overlooked. Don't think I would ever recommend renting a rig to someone. But as we all know sometimes things get sh***y and you just gotta move on.

Huge fan here. Near the beginning of your video 2:33, you said you would share the link to your Weekend Warrior Checklist, and as good looking as that list is, I stopped right there and started scouring your posted notes section. But alas, I couldn't find the link.. :( What I did find though was under the "about Episode" section. The first 2 sentences are repeated in the next 2 sentences(copy paste error). But, I'd sure like to find any other video producers out there who share this much COOL information! KYD hits the jackpot for those of you who also want to venture into the world of producing your own videos. From Camera Gear to social media links, to who sponsors them and even a place to get your music for background. Which by the way, KYD picks some of the BEST music drops I've heard.

Wow! You guys sure make renting look like a bad idea. LOL! I guess the key is finding a company that takes pride in the quality of their rentals. That's probably like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. I had my own black tank "mishap". If you RV long enough eventually it will happen to you. Not fun, but a "funny" memory that your wife will torment you with for the remainder of your natural life. LOL! Other than the "mishap" the trip looks wonderful. Honestly, AZ (other than the Grand Canyon) wasn't on our list until we watched your videos. You guys have shown us how absolutely beautiful it is. Thank you for that!

Now you’re talking! We have a 2019 Travato 59k and we LOVE it. It is an awesome rig for a couple, but if you drive drive drive then stay a long time in one spot it might not be the rig for you. We travel, stay a night or two and move on, it’s perfect. Also, lots of modifications help with the small space (like I would NEVER store the stinky slinky in that side bin, hubby built a bumper extension in the hitch to store a larger hose).
