My Lord the new rig is beautiful. One nugget of information that you may already know comes from my 30 yrs driving semi trucks. ALWAYS check your 5th wheel every time you are all away from the rig any length of time. There are some really mean people that will unhook you just to watch it come off. Love your videos. God bless.

I’ve seen a few trailers on the tires or ground due to some sad peeps. With a semi I always set the trailer brakes, pull against the trailer then set the tractor brakes. Nobody is pulling the fifth wheel release.

I have to give you a shout out at 10:37 the way you turn your wheels to get set up for the direction of travel when you are getting ready for reverse. It's rare that people do that. Instead, they come to a complete stop and then turn the wheels, scrubbing the tires on the pavement when they aren't in motion.

I put all my kids' measurements on a length of wood trim. It moves when I do. Now, my grandkids' measurements are on the back of the same wood trim! My youngest kids are 21 and the oldest is 32. . . so that is how long I've been doing this! My kids and grandkids love looking at it after all these years. What memories!

Great looking rig and congratulations on it. I would also like to commend you on your backing skills. With that said I would also like to add a word of caution. it appears that this is your first tri-axle and even though the 450 can cut it to a 90 degree turn pretty easy you should really refrain from that if possible. If you note at the 14:40 point there is a substantial axle side stress turning that tight. I know there are times that it is really needed, but I do everything I can to keep my super tight turns to a minimum. Once again, great looking unit and happy camping..

Hello long time since I made a comment lol The longer the rig the more easy it is to reverse. The reason for this is because the turm moves alot slower and more easy to correct. A top tip for people who drive something like this as you reverse, is if in your mirror and the rig moves out in that mirror steer to that mirror. In my younger days I was a female truck driver with very long rigs. love to u guys xx and your new rig is amazing.

That is a beautiful combo. Looks like the exhaust pipe on the generator hangs very low and the sewer line hangs pretty low as well. Always before/after hitching check to make sure that the tailgate is in the down position and that it is closed before you attempt to move the whole unit out from the parked position. I have seen many bent tailgates in my travels. Trish is so small in the 5th wheel :)

You will want to find one made of Delrin (POM) Plastic. It is very abrasion resistant and self lubricants so no grease needed. Works great in this type of application. Have used a lot of it over the years. A lot easier to machine and work with than UHMW and the like. The self lubrication is very important.

Magnificent rig!!Those pipes hanging under the rig at 20:00 are going to be gone at some point, I bet. They hang so low! I just returned from a ten day trip with my own rig. Which would fit nicely inside your garage there.I could probably fit my Dutch Volvo 340 GL in there too. Thats my tow vehicle 😂😂🤣. My RV is an Eriba Puck 1975, Google it you get a kick out of that. I weathered a few storms over here in the Netherlands,they issued a code orange over here.😲Millions in damages. I got lucky, just a few tentpoles broken and a small rip in my tent.(I have a tent I can connect to the caravan (RV) so I have some more space.) Three by four meters 2.15M high.Had a great time dispite of that. Looking forward to the new season that is some Rig you guys got there. Would love to drive that! 😘

Congrats Marc and Trish! Welcome to the Fifth wheel club! Enjoy your new toy! Learn all you can about your fifth wheel. I've had mine for a year and a half now and still learning new things about it. One tip I have you is when you are doing your auto leveling while setting up, either do the whole process on battery power or hook up your main power then auto level. I had to learn the hard way: while my rig was auto leveling on battery power, I decided to plug it in and it messed up my auto leveling with errors. Then you have to hook back up to the truck and reset your auto leveling to work properly. Other than that, I love mine!! I have a Montana High country 305RL! I hope to travel the states very soon!

My Wife and I are so happy for both of you’s and your young family. We both love your new Truck and Fifth Wheel and color colors are similarly ours. Our Mobile Suites DRV 44’ Nashville fifth wheels paint was special ordered and where yours is black ours is a dark grey with dark blue and lighter shades of grey. But of course a different design. We didn’t plan on towing our fifth wheel much at our age so we had sold our tow vehicle only to wish we hadn’t. We were so fortunate we found a 2012 Freightliner business class 4 wheel drive M2 Sport chassis- dark grey - it matches or fifth wheel great with only 26,790 original miles. Its Engine is a cat. 7.2L Engine with only 380 HP but 1,980 foot pounds of torque. It also has air over hydraulic disk brakes and air ride suspension. Can you tell I am very pleased LOL yes I sure am. My tow truck that I was going to tow our fifth wheel I had sold we had never actually taken delivery of it and someone purchased it site unseen for much more than we were going to pay for it because of such a time wait on them. My wife and I had sold our ranch - our boat and our company to live in our fifth wheel full time but now we are going to travel a bit. We have been married 51 years now and on our honeymoon we rented a pop up trailer and we have been camping or RVing sense. If we hadn’t had our company to run we would have hit the road with our 3 kids just like you are doing now. But we have 3 grandkids that can go with us now even though they live in Michigan we can always fly them into to a town near we will be at. I subscribed to your channel and my wife and I are so excited to watch a young couple do what we always dreamed of through your eyes and videos. Thank You so much oh and I am subbed to the channel with such a nice gentleman that helped guide you into your nice Ford F450. Cheers did I say we are happy also it’s never to late unless you lose your health or your six foot under.....

As a former trucker the "S" turn technique is a good one that I'm glad you've learned. My rule of thumb was when the driver door hit my back in spot I steer out then when my trailer axles hit the back in spot I steer back ,but obviously that's dependent on the space you have. I'm sure other people have their own methods.

That is one BIG toy! Oh my word. For some reason at the end when you were driving and all of a sudden the 'toy' stayed in the same direction and the truck turned it just seemed even bigger and like the truck wouldn't pull it. Seeing the truck used for pulling this makes you realise how people using them for every day life and just sticking some shopping in the back is totally overkill! Yay for the new deck and puppy hose outlet! So excited to see all the new things.

Wow! I've been waiting all week to see the new rig. It's big! The short turns are great, but hard on the tires since most are dragging sideways. (See at 14:30) I think whoever bought your old trailer will get a great rig! I do like Grand Designs. I remember moving from one MH to another, side by side. It took all day! Too much stuff. My advice to anyone buying from a dealer? Never trade in your old unit unless you have too much money. The fact you're meeting the new buyer shows your pride in ownership! One day, a FIAT class B/C; the next day, a 40' triple axle starship!

I understood , what you were talking about when getting ready to back . I always turn the truck to get the rear of the trailer in the direction you're backing. That makes easier to back. I hope thats what you were talking about pointing the nose of your truck. It's a beautiful rigg the two of you have.
@jacklandry87925 жыл бұрын
Instead of hitting “retract all” before hitching, hit the “hitch heights button. The back 4 jacks will retract and the front two will raise to the last height of your truck. After you are hitched, then use the “retract all” button to pick up the front jacks. The guys that do the walk throughs don’t really have a clue how these rv’s work. I bought a similar Momentum toy hauler from an Rv dealer in a different state and was given the same incorrect information about operating the jack system
@patrickspringer30685 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the new rigs, Now that you have a 5th trailer one very important thing to watch out for when pulling in or out or making turns is the TAIL SWING ( the back of trailer from back axle swings out) I am a truck driver 25 years otr I hit and dragged a pickup that was parked on the right side and when I made the left turn the tail a trailer scraped along the side of truck the hooked the cab of it and pulled it 10 feet before letting go I didn’t even feel it repair cost to pickup was 4 thousand. So be careful of that and keep it in your mind of it. In your video you can see it from the back. Safe Travels to y’all enjoy your new rigs.

Good job with your backing! I'm a truck driver, and I'm going to share some wisdom that a trucker gave me when I first started. He had been a trucker longer than I've been alive. Backing up is one of the most dangerous things you can do in a truck (or a rig like you have). Take your time, go slow, and to hell with everyone else. Get out and look as often as you need. Don't worry about holding people up. Also, be sure to take as much room turning as you need. That new rig is going to off track differently than your old one. Love your videos, and the new rig is beautiful. Don't get lost in there looking for the bathroom, lol😉😂

Jacknife turns are awesome with a 5er... until you walk a tire off the rim from too much side pressure. Just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should. A little common sense goes a long way. Tall 5ers are famous for catching trees. Your helper should have a radio and be in contact with you the entire time you are backing up. You are blind back there. You need her eyes.

Yep. Skidding those tires like that is not good at all! First thing I learned 25 years ago about backing and pulling out in an 18 wheeler. Never slide the tires. They should always be rolling or you will flat spot them. Especially with 45,000 on the trailer.

Gotta love the "evil Dad" moment... should be more of a habit for ALL the Dads! Nice job backing that building in...gee what were you thinking? Guess I will have to wait until next season for the class A...lol

Best of luck and enjoyment with the new rig. Travel safe and watch the height. Put a sticker on the dash with the measurement as a consent reminder. Tractor trailers have the height on the front driver side of the trailer so it can be seen with the driver mirror, another reminder. Remember the tail swing when turning. Sorry for the rant LOL. Just want to see you guys safe. Looking forward to the Fort Wilderness video.. Frank

They started this channel bringing up a beloved older dog along with them, so know all too well what having a dog in an RV requires.

Thanks so much! NO ONE shows the awkward moments learning a new RV, and it was so nice to see how you deal with the situation. My family and I are preparing to go full time on the road, and the 397/399TH is high on our list, especially knowing that you can do a side deck on it! Thanks for the awesome, honest video.

Love the rig! Since it’s your 3rd rig and it’s a Momentum, what about “Mo Ginger”. Or you could just say Mo Ginga. 😂

I passed an aircraft carrier at sea once it was a massive ship, that's what it will be like passing you guys, a small village going down the highway. Congratulations! beautiful rig....

Love the “be aware of yourself and the rig” mom talk.

That was pretty awesome!!! Very stoked for your family. So I heard you say you want to experience different rigs. Do you thing you guys would be interested in doing a overlanding rig season next? And getting a little bit more off the grid. Since you like Fords as much I do, it would be a perfect time to see what the new Bronco will do. I figure a roof top tent on the vehicle and one on a pull behind. Kind of like what “Epic Family Road Trip” picked up. I just think you can give a great Day Dream SPIN to this growing lifestyle

Nice :) If you decide to turn your "Learn Mode" in the direction of hitches, check out the Anderson Hitches. We swapped out our Reese 16K Titan for the Anderson Hitch. Such a smooth ride. We pull our Cedar Creek 29IK with our F350 which also has the puck system fitted. The hitch lifts in and out really easily and only weighs 35lbs. Copes with 4,500lbs tongue weight, but might not pull your trailer weight. Congrats on the truck ! Much to my wife's amusement, I spent the last few seasons shouting at the TV because you bought an F250 instead of the F350, and then found you were limited on weight when it came to the Grand Ginger purchase. We were tempted by the F450 for the DRW and the turning radius, but we do not full-time, so we went for the convenience and the ride of the F350 SRW, and avoided those 19.5" commercial tires. Anyway, glad you got a proper truck now ! :) If you are anywhere near Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada in winter 2019/2020, we'll be there !

Dam did you win the lottery, that's a 90 grand truck by itself. My old 2002 7.3 couldn't even buy the seats out of that truck .

That's what I thought too! That's an expensive setup right there... would hate to see the monthly payments and insurance I tell ya geez!

I agree where all the money come from , normal person couldn’t even begin to afford something like that .

@@alanburke4699 Fully agree. Sad thing is the boys are seeing life as good as it gets. They might expect the same when they head out on their own. Could be setting them up for a hard lesson. Keeping your daydream is one thing...........being able to do it is a whole different story. I was always told "be careful what you wish for.........it might come true" I like many literally broke my back and body all my life to provide for my family. Just their truck would be a unrealistic daydream for most of us.

@JJAJFOREVER Continuously switching from truck to truck to truck, RV with a killer solar system that can't be recouped, to a exorbitant toy hauler. Between RV's, mods and trucks they lose more in depreciation than a lot of people make in a year. Next year will probably be a Tiffin or Newell DP??? Have lived too long, seen too much, not to know they might be headed down a shiny dark road. I'm old school enough to know you invest in a stick built home that appreciates instead of new shiny toys that only depreciate. O'kay........I'll get off my horse now ;) I wish them well but worried how this all might end.
@richardkoch87525 жыл бұрын
@JJAJFOREVER the sad thing is they will probably stick 8K in solar and lithium and another 5K in misc. mods and next year it will only be worth 70K. A new RV is in our future (someday when wife finally retires) but our median priced home is paid for along with her Highlander and my Tundra. We are thinking either a new 30K'ish Grand Design Imagine or a Winnie Minnie Plus.........only if we can afford to pay cash for it. I was raised if you can't pay cash for a luxury item.............you don't need it: save until you can buy out right. Going to Shows the general topic of salesmen and the buying public is "it's only this much per month" .....no thank you .
