taka trip A note is just hitting the key or plucking the string or blowing the flute or doing whatever once, and a bassline is essentially the melody the bass plays. But usually a bassline has a very different function than a melody, because a melody is usually something that’s supposed to be catchy and noticeable and grab the listener’s ear, while a bassline is used as a fundament for the song and outline the chords and rhythm. (Hope I explained it a bit clearly and I didn’t make it more confusing than necessary.)
