Facts: 1. The linesman made an incorrect call 2. Kei hit the ball in (down the line) before the call was made (play 10:15 onwards at 0.25x) 3. Busta was running the opposite direction of Kei's shot regardless of the linesman's call 4. Replaying the point would be unfair to Kei 5. Umpire made a judgement call based on who would have won the point regardless of the linesman call and whether the call was of any hindrance to either players, 6. Busta did not handle his emotions well, he could have won the match if he was able to mentally regroup himself (he was still in the lead) 7. One of the commentators is clearly biased towards Busta (lol) Great game from both players. GO KEI

It is not about unfairness it is about what the rules say and the rules say the point should be repeated.
@Complexity00X5 жыл бұрын
@@ciondari Rules were man-made and are there to ensure the game's fairness, if the rules were enforced and led to unfairness then there is no point of having rules in the first place. This is also why we still have umpires to make humane judgements, if every linesman made an incorrect call like this, it would be very unfair to the opponent that hit a clean winner in. Anyway the only point of contention to replay the point would be if it was possible for Busta to actually return Kei's winner which was clearly not the case. Also, it was not match point, Busta was in the lead, he led his emotions overwhelm him. Also, that resentment built up from Busta does not excuse him from throwing a tantrum (if a 10-year-old kid did that you would have stereotyped him as a spoilt brat in need of discipline), so quite frankly, I'm glad the more calm and mature player won :)

Great final set tiebreak. One of the best I've ever seen. On the subject of whether the point should've been replayed or not I think the umpire made the right call. If you pause it when the line judge calls out and look at where the ball is, the ball is already on Carreno Busta's side of the court which means the call came after Nishikori hit it (in other words it was a late call). Not only that Carreno Busta was already going in the opposite direction when the call was made so it didn't hinder him and also means Nishikori's shot was a clean winner. That's how I saw it.
@tomr6955 Жыл бұрын
Doesn't matter though Simon. The fact is the out call distracted Busta. Even if the call came after the ball was hit, it came even before the ball crossed back over the net. If you take it to the extreme level, imagine the ball bouncing on the base line being called out and it's a slow ball.. But he hits it back over the net after it was called.. The umpire made the call that the call did not affect the outcome of the play (i.e. Busta had run the wrong way and was not in position to make a play on the ball independent of the linesman's call). I see Nishikori have such a strong mental strength. He never smile or expose his feelings easliy before the match ends. And do not step back at the very important point. Such a warrior. And last but not least, polite. Chaitrumpire did the right thing. Even the linesman's call was made before the hitting, both players already decided the direction where to hit and where to run. Which means, Nishikori's raquet was already on his swing and Busta's lags are already moving to his direction. Call did not change the outcome even it was made before hit. It is why the umpire give a point to Nishikori.

Despite what some people are saying the rule is not that the point HAS to be replayed no matter what. It is only to be replayed when the out call affects the outcome of the point. The call and the backhand were simultaneous. The call wasn't before the hit at all. And Carreno Busta was clearly running to the other side before the call. At that point it should be up to the Umpire's discretion and the Umpire made the fairest decision (Nishikori's point) all by the book.
@jochenknobel81755 жыл бұрын
I respect all the arguments that support the umpire. I was a umpire myself and i would say it was a mistake not to replay the point. And I tell you why. Imagine Nishikori misses the backhand. Don`t you think he would have complained that he was hindered by that outcall? Of course he would and that is the reason why the point should be replayed. It would be the fair decision even it would be extremely unlucky for Nishikori.

The late call was made right around the time Kei was hitting the ball, it's hard to tell whether it's right before or after he made contact. But I feel that it is irrelevant here, because the late call was about the shot that PCB made on Kei's side, not Kei's shot on PCB's side. Kei needed to touch the ball and make the shot (which he did) to make sure a replay was granted just in case the call was overruled by Hawkeye (which it was). After that PCB did not have to do anything to earn a replay. He can be standing on the moon and there should still be a replay. So I think the umpire did make a mistake. 11:13 Nishikori hits the ball one tenth of a second before the linesman calls out. But Busta was already out of the point and was not affected in any way shape of form by the linesman call. So he needs to get his honesty and decency checked. If he was 100% honest and fair about it he would have accepted the umpire's call as natural and probably would have won the match. His will to win got in the way of his sportsmanship. He is still young and he can learn. Hope he does.
