I love how you just flick the four-wheel drive switch, which means your brother then has to gather everything he’s got into a ‘sh1t or bust’ attempt at getting through… hilarious! What a beautiful and magical place. ✅👍😎❤️

Hello and thank you for the great comment! The only connection to Japan that we have so far are the people that we have met through comments from making the videos but Stacy and I would love to visit Japan someday. The history, culture and vehicles of Japan have always been very interesting to me. We have fixed up many old Japanese motorcycles and cars over the years. 👍

This is so dope. I wondering how cold it was at night for this trip. And how feasible it would be trying to live in it with these conditions for weeks.
@OlympicOverland
@OlympicOverland Жыл бұрын
I’ve camped in it as low as 15 degrees and it would be comfortable in much colder conditions. The 2kw diesel heater is pretty much overkill for the size so even on the coldest nights you would have to open the roof vent and side window. I could live out of that camper on the road if I had more time off of work ha ha. It’s definitely a comfortable space and works great for how we travel.

of the two trucks, which seems to do better offroad in your experience?
@OlympicOverland
@OlympicOverland Жыл бұрын
They are both pretty comparable, I think it’s really just the way both trucks are setup. We have similar lift height’s (2”), the same Forceum MT08 13” tires and both trucks have rear diff locks. The Acty feels pretty balanced and shifts a bit of its weight towards the rear wheels with the mid engine and that definitely helps with traction but the Carry has more room to mount a hydraulic cylinder for a dump bed arrangement and engine access is just popping the seat up vs removing the 4 bolts for the bed hatch cover on the Honda. I think it’s hard to go wrong with either truck but I do really like my Honda!
@llamamanguy

@@OlympicOverland I live in a similar climate and was eyeing up the sambar, but your Acty has been making me lean that way. I appreciate the response!

Not sure if you have answer it , but how did you guys secured the camper to the bed
@OlympicOverland
@OlympicOverland Жыл бұрын
Hi, after breaking lots of different camper tie down systems off-road over the years I really only use bolt through mounting now. These campers use oversized Rivnut’s in the bed with grade 8 hardware and large fender washers to secure them and this setup has held up great.

They look like micro LMTV’s. I was looking into the Subaru 4x4 supercharger but I think it doesn’t have the diff lock. Your camper build is awesome. Im thinking of selling my 2004 Scion XB to get a Kei truck 😂
@OlympicOverland
@OlympicOverland Жыл бұрын
I had a first gen XB for years and it was awesome, my son still owns it. They were some of the few vehicles that we got in the states that got us close to Kei cars/trucks. Keep an eye out for a diff lock Sambar, they are rare but do exist. The switch looks like a twist style knob on the dash. I’ve never seen a supercharged Sambar with diff lock but the standard versions occasionally pop up and it’s possible that they included them on some supercharged models. The other possibility is that Subaru may have included a LSD rear diff on the supercharged version, I’ve never had one on a lift to see if both wheels turn when it’s off the ground or not. I know Mitsubishi doesn’t often include diff locks but does spec limited slip differentials on some of their Kei cars/trucks so it possible that Subaru may have done this as well. Cheers man!

The top layer of the drifted snow had a crust layer that was hard enough to support my 12 year old son without breaking through. We do a lot of winter trails and I’ve definitely used my truck in much deeper snow than that but the drift was pretty solid & not worth the effort.

Yeah, screen time is a big issue for a lot of us now unfortunately. He noticed that most of the time he was on the game when we watched the video and realized how distracted he was. He has been a huge help with video work and is normally much more engaged but the video games need to stay at home more often and be a rainy day activity for sure. 👍
