Awesome video Andy, it's great to see you're still doing well, and still sk8ing. I am watching your video from lake Powell. I went camping all over here and lake Mojave. I bought a pair of powerslide outback 150's and learning something new. I'm the trucker from Colorado
@OlympicOverland2 күн бұрын
Hi! I just looked up the outback 150’s because I had never heard of them and they look gnarly! I bet they would be rad in Moab. Good to hear from you and glad you are out enjoying the Lake Powell area. I wish we could head south and escape the rain right now, Baja is sounding pretty good!

good to see another video from you guys! Your military box conversion was very interesting to watch, and is one of my top two inspirations for my 2nd build, which I'm currently working on now! Your Dodge and camo camper are bad ass! I have an '04 Ram 2500 long bed with a 5.9, which I bought new back in the day to haul my rebuild/remodel of a 1969 Pathfinder. Now, after 20+ years she needed a 2nd remodel, which consists of a cabover delete, 7" more narrow, 3 and a half inch walls, and much lighter overall. I hope to be finished enough to leave NC by spring, headed west/PNW...hope to see more videos from you guys soon!

LOVE the M1031 conversion box!
@OlympicOverland3 күн бұрын
@@AllRightHauling that old M1031 box has worked out great! Lots of wheel clearance, aluminum so the weight is reasonable and plenty of storage. I camped out of it a lot before welding the high roof/cabover section. I like how wide the rear doors/tailgate open so we can still use the back for hauling stuff similar to a van. It’s a handy truck 👍
@eggmcnog3 күн бұрын
What are your favorite trails around the PNW for some 4x4 camping? I’m new to all this and I’m not sure where to start
@OlympicOverland3 күн бұрын
@@eggmcnog I would start off with a good atlas. Benchmark makes my favorite ones because the backroads are the most detailed and accurate. They have the best format that makes them more usable than other atlas’s that I’ve used. GPS is great but is difficult to see a bigger picture to help find and connect routes on a bigger scale, the atlas really makes a big difference, it’s hard to beat paper maps! Another great thing about exploring Washington is that logging is a big part of the economy here so the amount of dirt logging roads throughout the Cascades and Olympic area are pretty massive and mostly open to the public. Lots of DNR and Forest Service roads. Capital Forest near Olympia has some gnarlier trails if you are looking for more hardcore stuff but there are plenty of great routes to explore across the state like the WBDR. I hope the link to the atlas work but most decent bookstores carry this one as well. Washington Road & Recreation Atlas - 10th Edition, 2022 (Benchmark)
@eggmcnog2 күн бұрын
@ dude! Thank you so much for taking the time to drop some info on me! Do you attend any meetups around here? (Seattle region) I’d love to pick your brain! Seriously thanks tho. I’ll grab an atlas. I’ve been looking at onx but lots of the trails have no reports. I’m in a Delica so it’s a bit hard to tell what’s roll over territory or not
@OlympicOverland2 күн бұрын
@@eggmcnog no problem! We make it to Seattle occasionally but I haven’t attended any import meetups. Onyx is good and Gaia is handy but that atlas will be the best for exploring new dirt road routes for sure. The Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (WABDR) has some cool sections so definitely check that out this spring but most of the high elevations will be snowed in for a bit and doesn’t melt off of the north facing slopes for awhile so definitely bring a shovel and chains for an early season trip. WABDR has their own paper maps (I think Butler made them?) and offers a free GPS track. There is a similar route for Oregon and Idaho as well.

It’s pretty incredible how long these old Alaskans can last. Ours wasn’t stored inside but held up well to the wet weather here in the northwest. It’s like a boat, definitely some upkeep and fixing leaks will keep them going for a long time.

The only thing I would do differently next time is use aluminum for siding instead of the plastic because it bubbles a bit in hot weather but returns to normal when it cools off. I really enjoy the interior layout and am glad that I kept it low for wind resistance. Good luck on your build man!

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. The rear fender is an Acerbis Nost universal rear fender and they are available at most bigger moto online moto shops or Amazon/ebay and come in a lot of different colors. They are pretty cheap too, also good quality and made in Italy. The front fender is just a modified stock front or rear, I can remember which one I cut up to use but it turned out pretty good.
