This is why I've always respected Master and Sensei of any martial art, especially older ones. This Sensei was cleaning house on these younger guys big time.

All those younger guys were 8th dan by the way this comment is for all these future generations who will stumble upon this video.

the yelling is part of the strike. in order to score you must yell out to show the spirit of the attack. it's one of the 3 requirements of the score.

this was not normal-no one(no matter what grade they are)should turn their back on their opponent at any time.Try doing this to a higher grade or your sensei and see what happens to you.The 9th Dan treated it like a seminar or more like a kindergarden with wayward children

There is no yelling in kendo. Yelling will hurt their throats. It is kiai from the stomach and it helps with posture, breathing and power in the strike. As a bonus it is also used to intimidate your opponent. It is said your first weapon in kendo is your kiai. To not use it would be worth noting, but this was all normal.

How does anyone do something like 4:39 to 8 dan sensei? That is just amazing...
@seravi12 жыл бұрын
8 dan is the highest you can test for. The higher Dan are awarded.

As I don't know Japanese, if you pause it at about 1:20, I think the '82' is his age.

@Mandalorianjedi11 жыл бұрын
They are both. You need someone of the rank or higher to properly judge it, and there is no current living 10th dan. 9 is rarely achieved so normally if they are 8th Dan, and have trained long enough for the requirement, they receive the title pretty easily.

isnt the 9th dan a honour or is the 10th dan the hornour
What makes you say that? Everything here was perfectly normal for kendo.

No, 8th dan is only the highest outside of Japan.
@Mandalorianjedi12 жыл бұрын
If you think watching a 9th dan woop professional kendoka without even moving boring, then stop watching kendo videos.
@50panda12 жыл бұрын
Im pretty sure 8dan is the highest dan in kendo.....

Ma come mai il maestro (quello vestito di bianco) ogni tanto si lascia colpire ?
@fabriciogiampietro70297 жыл бұрын
In kendo il punto è dato successivamente a 3 elementi, tecnica, volontà e zanshin... a volte colpire non è sufficiente. In questo caso comunque è solo una dimostrazione
