For that last example, I agree that staying L3 is the play, solely because of how Trainer works. You start with Nomsy being weak, gaining power over time, so you’d want to start with a loss streak. However, I WOULDN’T keep my pairs. I’d keep the Skarner for bruiser synergy, but I’d make 10 gold for early interest and amass an early ECon advantage that way, to compile with my loss streak and push Fast 8.

Playing for loss streaks in low elo keeps you in low elo. People in lower elo usually fixate on one or two combs and don't know what else to do and when they're down to 50-60 hp, their 50 gold won't suddenly make them win most of the time. It's 50/50 and that probability is bad... That's pure luck right there. I started playing for win streaking and keeping my econ rather low in early/pre 7 and my average placement rose to 2,4 and has gotten me from g4 to p3.
@lust88902 жыл бұрын
yeah this is definitely not the set to play for a loss streak or for lv3 early. I pre level 4 and play for winstreak no matter the situation and it pans out very well generally. I've been GM before so I have a good insight. RN I made a new acc and it's gold 3 with 6 first places out of 9 games with this method. perhaps in chal the other method can come in play, but otherwise it's bad advice imo
@robertlanger4272 жыл бұрын
if its 2/1 i would say level and go for winstreak, but since he already lost i would sell my bench and go for interest. like aure he has 4 pairs but except the senna every other pair is just useless in that spot
@Riokaii2 жыл бұрын
in the level on 2-1 example: I think levelling via removing + selling the Trist and selling the skarner puts you in a stronger position to win the next round (which is an immediate pay off compared to reaching 10g for interest, and still leaves you in good position to hit your pairs. While losing skarner for bruiser is a slight loss, you have high chance to find a better bruiser at 2 or 3 cost units (Sylas, Shen, Olaf) but you also have the backup option of finding even a 1 star Sejuani which is an weaker alternative to the bruiser synergy The reduced odds on 1 costs isn't likely to prevent you from finding 1 or 2 more 2 star units when you are holding 4 pairs for possible outs, and even if it did, the benefit of levelling and hitting all future level breakpoints sooner is a better long term play. Hitting 3 or 4 of the pairs into 2 stars isn't a payoff when you can't even put in 6 2 stars until you are level 6. It increases your odds to find them in the immediate short term, but if you are playing for immediate short term benefit, levelling makes your board immediately stronger for the combat, holding only potentially makes you stronger for the 2nd combat.
@jacobshilling2 жыл бұрын
This board looks like a trap to me...We already have two start Kench, Ascension, and early Trist. I'd level and put in Skarner - sell off Nidalee + Karma, hold Sett/Senna. You are up 5 units to 3 w/ Nomzy and you're in a prime spot to hit Jinx or (unlikely) Lulu.

I personally think that in the last example, adding a Skarner and getting 2 bruisers, thus getting a total of +1400 health on your units + the Skarner himself is not just a marginal increase in strength.
@xujhan2 жыл бұрын
In addition, Skarner 1 adds about the same amount of board strength at level 4 as hitting any of the pairs on your bench does. Given that you already have Heimer 2 and TK 2 the board can't reliably lose streak, so you're very likely to push level 5 at 2-5 anyway. And on the flip side, there are a whole bunch of 2- and 3-cost units you'd like to hit. I'd say this is an easy level.

In Bebe's spot, none of the pairs except Ezreal are as big of a spike as levelling. 2 Tarics > Taric 2 for example. He's got around a 58% chance of hitting any pair over the two turns. It only drops to about 38%(by going 4 then 5), and he'd want to level if he hit anyway, or he'd still be weaker than he'd be by levelling. Getting the first win and then hitting means he actually streaks if he's lucky enough to hit. Else he loses a gold and hp bc he's not making Econ anyway. He has a slammable item, that benefits from more frontline. If I recall correctly be also has second wind, which he benefits more from with more frontline too. Even if it's not playing to win the round, playing to kill more is valid. The decision should be based more on Econ. Board strength doesn't really enter the argument unless he hits and then levels. Or if levelling doesn't even kill any additional units. At worst he griefs Econ to save hp. At best he starts his streak, and likely continues it if he hits anything. In the spot in this video, at best you can slam the hoj Senna. If you level, win the round then hit Senna it might be enough to win again. Depending on the strength of the lobby and matchmaking. But you can't do much to improve the frontline. It's hard to justify dropping the Nomsy and Heimer 2. It's almost the same spot but without the option to improve frontline or an item that benefits much from it/any item at all. Probably depends specifically on which carries/items people have in this lobby. Whether or not they kill the Tahm fast enough for ascension to save the fight. It's a lot harder to justify it here as the board actually had some 2 stars, so you're adding less % power to your board. Whether or not that's enough for the lobby is another matter. I'd probably go with waiting here, but there's a reasonable chance this board isn't actually that weak.

@KeimaTFT2 жыл бұрын
tbh after rewatching the last example, you actually really can't determine a 100% correct answer since the strength of the lobby wasnt shown and its also meta dependent.. the next strongest in would be skarner but the issue w/ leveling and committing to a streak is that the potential slammable items were bad for streaking (u would lose to any board w/ sunfire cape) + comps that play around them are extremely weak in the current meta(decent chance of playing into corki/mages since nomsy opener) so you would ideally want item prio on first carousel, but at the same time if 6/7 other players are all playing an econ opener/weak board then committing to a streak is possible even though my board is just average :). just goes to show how complex tft is
@alicea34212 жыл бұрын
I'm curious if you think Skarner is always stronger (because of ascension or that Trist is enough damage) Do you think whether or not the lobby is frontline or backline heavy at 2-1 changes whether you want to play Skarner/Senna? I think I'd go for Senna if people have frontline and Skarner if they have carries (incl items) I watch a lot more than I play so I'm far more theory than practical atm I'd assume your reasoning is that Skarner is better vs the average 1 carry and item board or the average sum of mixed board types?

I can’t help but strongly disagree with the xayah 3 argument being a first and if not you made a mistake. There is always the possibility that someone highrolls harder, maybe getting talon 3 and pyke 2 with such strong items and synergies that they are able to one shot your main carry and backline protection. What you get is important but that ignores what your opponent gets.
@brunomiura55532 жыл бұрын
I think the argument is that if you highroll xayah 2 early, you can afford to play around more stuff. Maybe denying talons since you can use them. Maybe sacrifcing QS for a Bramble or BT on Xayah would let her survive assassins and still deal enough damage since she's 3*. Maybe you could realize going for xayah 3 was a mistake in the first place, and going 9 with 2* shyvana with bramble + AP was a better answer vs sins Ofc not all games are winnable, but to some extent, there are always different plays throughout the game that could have been made

@furielIDV2 жыл бұрын
I know this is kinda outdated but I learn this from #1 korean tft chal. To build best customatization and try to build up tier 1 or 2 build for your carry and complete other BiS slot from treasure dragon. For example you only need rageblade for xayah as her main item, so you could build IE HoJ or other thing at first and take bow/rod from carousel and roll for one for item to complete rageblade or if you have alr bow or rod you can build it instantly. Second one I think this is also a good advice I think if you really low roll you shouldn’t just do standard move but go for lose streak and e-con immediately even it grief your health such as playing 3/4 board and else so you can get extra money to back from 8th to higher place. cuz money from losing streak is always better than the one keep win and lose but of course. Early stage loses less hp than later so get losing streak early has higher chance to get back than the one who is 6th or 7th.

when the exp is 4/6 the chance to get 1 cost units when the shop reset on the next round is still at lvl 4 (55%), the true reason why you dont level up in this situation is that you have 3 pairs and you already lost the first round also, then if you sell 1 pair and Skarner to level up it's still the lose-lose situation no matter you win or lose on the next round (if you win, you lose 1 pair and 4 gold and a possible lose streak, or else you still lose 1 pair and 4 gold for nothing).

I've gone through several games where TFT outright refused to give me ANY units of the team i'd otherwise be building, without any other player in the game buying or playing that comp as well. Sometimes luck really isn't in your favor, and there's nothing you can do about it besides going for a completely different comp, even if no one else was building yours.

(meaning you can win when you otherwise couldn't like in poker). There is a LOT you can do in poker REGARDLESS of your cards. TFT is 100% reliant on your "cards" to win. They are nothing alike. TFT is slot machines where knowing the game gives you an edge, but not any kind of actual control. You are 100% beholden to the champs that show up for you, the items you get, and they augments you get to see. All of these things are chance based. Climbing isn't hard. I am terrible. I still climb. I just quit after awhile cause slots get boring fast.

i get many games where i get 3-4 items in the whole game, while my opponents get shit load of items. Not about luck? 90% its about luck

Yeah I think the 2nd point is the most important adapting is more important than anything man in 99.9% of games that have “luck”

Well, I see a lot of the mistakes I make in this video, although the leveling thing is a no-brainer.

clickbait title but excellent content, perfect combo. I've been thinking about that 2-1 situation a bit lately and Socks actually has a video where he talks about it too; he says it is better to hold 3-4 pairs than it is to make 10 as you'll ultimately make that econ back later between being healthier, saving gold on rerolls, and future winstreaks.

As someone that just got proficient enough in TFT to hit gold, this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

I would just stay at L3 since the last match was already lost, why risk spend the gold and lose again. I’d rather get the lose strike bonus.

Thank Keima, that is a lot of good information. But in one of game when you were rolling for Shioyu 2, you got a Corki 2 in the shop and after that a Sona while having a Tahm kench on your board. Can you explain why you didn't just pivit into Corki? Also you didn't have any Jade units.

TFT is random but you gotta play with the hand you've been given just like poker. Sure it's random but it's still the decision making that's important. Ofcourse you will lose games by being unlucky but atleast you can win semi regularly by skillful play/decisions.

Keima, could you do a small video on best shimmerscale items?

Anyone else actually watch poker and wonder why he put Esfandiari as a clip and not someone like Ivey or Negreanu? He's a pro but still just a funny thought when thinking about "the best"

You either can rng your way to challenger every season or go find something better to do with your time
@dimitriskafkias57072 жыл бұрын
sr for that but you said that going all the time the same comb is a mistake... then why your match history is full of 2 combs mages and canoneers?

Have a question about the last scenario. If there is such a large importance of making the first 10g interval, why not just sell all of the pairs and play for a loss streak? I know holding pairs sets you up for 4 different potential "outs" but I'm just curious why this is suboptimal.
@youngtran89862 жыл бұрын
Well, it depends. If you scout other players and see half of them have stronger board with many 2 stars, you have to hold pairs because you lose anyway, but the chance you got your 2 stars units next round is a lot higher, thus keep you healthier. Yeah, losing 5-10G early game is massive, but your mission is at least top 4 with 0G, not top 5 with 50G.
@tayo_952 жыл бұрын
as a Bronze player i disagree, you should spend all your gold every turn and then throw away your toons and leave the board empty

@Faustas4202 жыл бұрын
Although you are the challenger here I dare to say level 4 there would be the play as you would have easily started to win streak (unless you have scouted and saw someone high rolling god tier board at stage 2....)
