Well said Mike. As for Cleverly I used to live in Colchester, further out than Braintree, and used to work in London. Up at 5:30, drive to station and on the 7:00 train to Liverpool Street; then bus to Shad Thames. I also knew a few people who lived in Braintree who worked in London. The ‘Braintree Express’ to Witham then on to Liverpool Street; simples!

I don't believe MPs should have a whole "home" in London. We should have an entire block of furnished bedsits, owned by the Government, where MPs could stay during the week, or whenever they needed to be in London. They would be responsible for the utilities at said bedsit but they would pay no rent. They don't need a whole home in London....of course, if they wish to buy and finance entirely a home in London privately then they are welcome to.

I’m sorry but they already get to claim a massive amount. They have staff that are often family members working for them. They have subsidised food and drink. They have travel expenses. Heating allowances etc etc etc. Fully paying for a second home if it’s needed should be on them as all the other perks they get with the job will make up for it and it will also stop them taking on a ridiculously over indulgent second property as they do now. If you know London you’ll know that there are a lot cheaper areas on the outskirts that are all well serviced by trains or the underground but instead this lot take properties costing more in council tax alone that we’re paying for than the homes on the outskirts would cost in rent/mortage, council tax and all bills combined.
