I've been to the Jim Thompson house, and I was under the impression that he was respected because he helped revive the Thai silk industry so the local people maintained his house. It is an odd place to be the top tourist attraction of Bangkok though. I don't think he was eaten by a tiger as he went missing in Malaysia in a place where there aren't any.

Not a word of a lie, back when NZ hosted the '90 Commonwealth Games (where Jason Statham was a diver) our teacher asked us to write down which sport we'd most like to participate in. My response was "Spectator," much to the chagrin of my teacher. Turns out I knew who I really was from a very early age. Also, later in life I was working for a local TV channel as a cable puller (paired with cameramen) and we were covering an athletics meet. We were positioned in the middle of a field when my cameraman received a message over his radio. We repositioned and a few moments later a javelin landed where we'd been standing. Lucky for us, but also who the FUCK let us stand in the target zone in the first place.

College means something different in the UK! College/Sixth Form is where you do your A Levels when you're 16-18, and most people go straight to college after finishing secondary school. University is then exactly the same thing as in other countries for the most part.

I took a paper on Roman History when I was at uni. The lectures were at 8am, and the lecturer did not do a good job of making things interesting. I noped out somewhere in the middle of the Etruscans and didn't go back. Needless to say I didn't pass the paper and have learned a LOT more since thanks to TV shows and KZbin.

I was recently (for the 2nd time) visiting my friend in Bangkok who's name is - no lie - Jim Thompson. He disavowed the house so strongly the first time I went that I've never bothered to visit, but from what I remember he's meant to be some kind of fashion designer that imported western design ideas to Thailand?
