Pension are but the state 'pension' is a benefit. It's a pyramid scheme paid out of current taxation which works if you have more people paying in than taking out. Unfortunately we're reaching the point where too few are paying in and too many are taking out which is unsustainable.

@@sandrah6321 completely untrue..maybe so in the early years(20s/30s)..but now British State Pension is funded by current contributions (our sons, daughters and grandchildren) and since we produce fewer and fewer of them the burden is getting higher and higher..

How can pensioners hope to achieve anything when even THIS posting shows pensioners all living comfortable, well dressed and shod, pensioners who look far from struggling. At least, if you are reporting on pensioners struggling, have the decency to use REAL photos of those pensioners and not models posing a well to do middle class comfortable life style. Most of us can't afford to have our hair done, dress in clothing from M and S - most of my clothes are second hand, from charity shops. What Hooe have we got when people post stuff on You Tube with a false picture of 99% of the pensioners rather than the reality!
