There's a significant mistake in the subtitles at 4:09. Subtitles say "seven billion Yen alone per year", however, the original says "seven billion Euros per year". One Euro is 116 Yen currently, so that's a huge difference.

Successful Keiren racers in Japan get salaries of a few million dollars already. They have to leave Japan for quite a while to earn points to compete in Worlds or whatever so that would be a big financial sacrifice. Even medium riders earn six figures.

A few of the people at my gym, including a female are pro Keirin racers. I thought they were a team, by the way they train together. I was surprised to find out that they have the potential to compete against one another and were not team members at all. Another cool observation is the way the experienced athletes take under their wing and train the younger, newer riders. I am looking forward to the opportunity to see a race live. Might even attempt a wager.

it is a race bro. you cross the line first you win. but as he says not the strongets rider that win all the time cuz they allow "fights" during races. on normal track races you cant headbutt ar use elbows and bike movements to make your oponent crash.

These guys make a lot of money so there isn't as much incentive to transition out when you're already in. The best ones can earn millions and even low ranked amateurs can pull in more money than being a domestic rider on a pro tour team. And if you had the aptitude to do road racing you'd head in that direction to begin with anyway. These guys here are much more focused on explosive strength, while road races (even "sprinters") devote nearly all their time to endurance slow-twitch training because you'd never survive a 5 hour ride, let alone have any punch at the line even if you made it if you don't train purposely for it.
