Thank you! The baits hold up pretty well. On average I can get about 3-5 fish per bait. The part that goes is the head. I've prefer to use screw-in type weighted swimbait hooks, but I find the screw portion of them is rather small. What I do now is replace them with the Owner 1/4" CPS spring...which is quite a bit larger than what any brand offers stock. That added size screw equals more surface area gripping the bait, which extends the number of fish you can get before it starts to rip.

Hey bud, I just want to say thank you for the amazing insight you share. In this case on the Keitech you got me going in the right direction with this bait. I've also made a few modifications that help improve my hook up percentage and colors that have become staples in my tackle box based on success. Last, I want to say this has become the lure I throw as my search bait. Replacing the Spinnerbait. It's a lot quieter and more subtle and you can fish it at any level in the water column, plus very weedless so you can run it throw a lot of gunk. The Spinnerbait Is great in some situations, Keitech I've found to be great in most situations.

Hey Central - thanks man, appreciate it. Glad I was able to provide some info you found useful. I agree on all your points. Your last line pretty much sums it up perfectly....great at one thing vs good at most things. I've been fishing the 6.8s and 7.8s since last year. Planning on a review. Interestingly I found the difference more than just the obvious (size), the added weight creates body movement resistance that makes the larger sizes not quite as universal in what they do well.
@centralnjfisherman1472

KeepinItReelFishing - I actually stick to 3.8 although smaller, the action is just not the same for me on the larger sizes. I’m sure they catch fish but since I consider this mostly my search bait I want the best chance of action quickly so I can hone in on what kind of mood they are in. You can run it however you like. I guess because of the 3.8 design I can run it at slower speeds and still get serious action out of that tail.

Zack Porter Hey Zack - Glad your having such success with them! Two years later nothing has changed...its still is the #1 overall lure I can recommend someone....regardless of lake and conditions. They just lowered their prices across the board on the Impact Fats too....so even more reason to stick with them instead of the imitators.

I use the nail weights now sometimes. If I am fishing very clear water I'll go to a finer guage 4/0, even 3/0 hook and use the nail weights to minimize the bait looking more artificial than it has to be. Those beast hook do have a HUGE gap.

BakoBassin Hey Bako - thanks for letting me know and I'm happy for you! You can NEVER go wrong with the Swing Impact Fat's. If you haven't already....try the 5.8" size sometime. They get all the bites that the 4.8's do, but I've gotten some nice mid 4lb fish on them too.
@KeepinItReelFishing

I found some 1/8oz Bass Pro Shops brand nail weights that just make it. I put them in at a steep angle to simulate the weight toward the bottom (putting it straight up from the bottom would distribute the weight evenly top to bottom and not achieve the "keel" effect). Your right on the swim jig, there isn't enough bite for the 4.8. But additionally, I got frustrated with how much that line tie assembly got hung up. For some reason it was a magnet for weeds.

Hello from across the pond! I'm glad you having good success with them. I haven't actually used that size yet. I only have the larger sizes (4.8 & 5.8) for largemouth bass. According to Keitech's site though they recommend a #1 size hook for the 2.8.

Absolutely one of my favorites as well. I personally like using the 3.8 as a trailer on a a 1/2oz zman chatterbait and that thing smokes fish all day long! Only secret is that I rig it on the hook upside down it flutters better on the chatterbait when it’s upside down

I bought these because of your video. I like them a lot but I haven't done that great with them alone. Swimming or jigging them as a trailer on a swim jig I have done really well were I fish. This or a craw trailer on a jig is my go to bait.

That is the fascinating thing about fishing. It is not black and white. What works great for one person on one body of water may not hold true for another person on another body of water. No matter where we are we have to "crack the code"...sounds like you have where you fish. Hope you have continued success.

Can anyone tell me what the significance of thoes string things coming off the lure at 7:00? what are they suppose to imitate?
@KeepinItReelFishing
@KeepinItReelFishing 8 жыл бұрын
Its just a jig skirt, TJ. The idea behind them is that they flail out and undulate when moved through the water. Also, if the lure is brought to the bottom they really "umbrella" out and move around. They are the essence of any jig....in this case being used to make the plain Keitech swimbait into a swim-jig.
@Hehawtyragu
@Hehawtyragu 8 жыл бұрын
+KeepinItReelFishing what is it suppose to imitate though? Why does it attract fish to bite? Haha I'm from Australia and fish saltwater it could help me out
@KeepinItReelFishing
@KeepinItReelFishing 8 жыл бұрын
Who knows dude. So many things in fishing don't truly imitate anything. Or if they do....its a very loose imitation. In this case its just about the additional action or movement. While in continuous motion the jig skirt moves fluidly....I suppose to more closely mimic a fish. But, when it flails out thats another story. Nothing in the water that is alive actually looks or moves like a flailing skirt, but the movement has long been known to trigger many predatory gamefish into biting.
@johnsemar107
@johnsemar107 8 жыл бұрын
it gives the bait more of a realistic appeal and action, the skirt, which you are referring to will move freely while retiring, and is more appealing to bass.
@mcaetano2000
@mcaetano2000 8 жыл бұрын
The movement in the water may imitate the movement of the fins and gills of a fish, if you're swimming it and using a trailer that imitates a fish. If your using a jig colored like a crawdad and use it on the bottom with a trailer that looks like a crawdad then it may imitate the crawdad legs moving. It just moves and make it appear alive, even if it isn't a perfect imitation. Foi many species of fish, a skirted jig with a trailer is one of the very best lures fot trophy fish.

I have bought from both. I wanted to try someone other than Tackle Warehouse, so I tried Land Big Fish a few times, but each time the processing time took longer and back ordered things took a long time to come back. Its hard to find a better deal than TW's 5$ two day shipping and they stock deeper than ANYONE. I like to support local places and smaller online shops, but TW is just so good on all fronts.

The nail weights I've seen look too tall for the 4.8 size, do you cut them or have you found nails that fit uncut? I saw you didn't like the Keitech Model III swim jig, were you rigging the 5.8 in this video or was it the 4.8? The Keitech catalogue recommends the 4.8 size for that swim jig, they might be better suited to the 3.8 to get more bite on the hook.

KeepinItReelFishing what hooks do you use for the 4.8 or the 3.8 like a worm hook or weighted hook something to make it mostly weed less but realistic acting because I tried it with a weighted hook that has one of the screw in bait holders a worm hook that had the weight on it and even just a basic worm hook but it never seems to hook right so do you think you could do a hooking video some time for various lure styles too?

Stian Bakken Hey Stian - I use the Eagle Claw screw-in weighted swimbait hooks....5/0 size for the 4.8" Fats and 6/0 for the 5.8" size. Eagle Claw offers them in a few weights....but I tend to use 1/8oz or 3/16oz. That gives them a nice slow fall when you stop reeling, but is heavy enough to provide full tail kicking action.

I've got a few in the video so I'll list them in order of widest to least wide offset. Eagle Claw Lazer, Mustad Ultrapoint, Owner centerpoint, and the Keitech model built into the jig had the least. I haven't used the Gambler myself....and there are plenty of other options as well. But the Eagle Claw has proven to be the most cost efficient hook with the widest gap offset.

Mustad has been really dissapointing for me. Also size of hook for size of bait! I forgot the recommendations! Thanks!
@KeepinItReelFishing
@KeepinItReelFishing 11 жыл бұрын
Keitech recommends a 2/0 for the 2.8, 3/0 for the 3.8, and 4/0 for the 4.8. Irrespective of brand, I'd recommend a 1/8 oz wide gap swimbait hook for the 4.8, and the same or 1/16 for the 3.8. (I must admit I've only fished the 4.8 and 5.8 models). I like the Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp weighted swimbait hooks, although I think 3/0 is the smallest they go, so if you father wants to run the 2.8 Impact Fat's he would probably be better served with a standard wide gap 2/0 hook and a small bullet weigh

Have you ever tried using tungsten nail weights in those two holes in lieu of the weighted hook? Might make it run true with un-weighted hook and give you the weight you need while keeping the weight hidden. I use the 4/0 weighted Owner "Beast" hook and there's plenty of bite. I'm not sure if that model Owner hook was available when you did your first video on this bait. I know you didn't like the little gap on the standard weighted Owner you were using.

Keitechs are THE BEST(in my mind without question) paddle tail swimbaits on the market for northeast fisheries. The colors, the action, the scent they use... these things are absolutely dynamite AND they have action when falling on slack line when many other offerings do not. I use all 3 variants. The 4" easy shiners are my favorite swim-jig and chatterbait trailer. I use the regular impacts on A-Rigs, and I use the 4.3 and 4.8 inch FAT impact by themselves on jig heads or swimbait hooks. I like the VMC IKE swimbait heads recently. Before I discovered the Keitechs, almost at every lake I fish in upstate NY I'd run into guys swearing by theses. They were even using them for walleye. Finally I saw some at a local Dick's and picked up a pack of all 3 versions and they all caught fish. Especially during the summer when the bite was tough. I too now swear by them. I'm convinced the scent has a lot to do with it. I throw similar swimbaits like jackall rhythm waves, but the keitechs always produce the most bites. My favorite colors: Sight Flash - Tennessee Shad - Green Pumpkin/Chartreuse - Sungill - Bluegill Flash.

I fish deep clear water and use the Hedz brand jig heads and let it fall to the bottom and then slow roll across points and rock piles and have hammered them. This way that i rig them seems like i have much better contact with the bottom especially in windy rougher water conditions. How do you fish them in those kinds of conditions. I would think that 1/16 or 1/8 oz would be too light but i could be way off on that. I like the weedless aspect of how you rig them especially since there is alot of underwater wood in Shasta. I totally see how the fall rate with lighter weight would be key sometimes so was wondering what you recommend in white cap conditions. Thanks for the video, i look forward to seeing more posted from you. Tight Lines! Mike

Thanks Mike. Yeah....you and I fish much different waters. Only one place I fish is semi deep and pretty clear, but otherwise I fish generally shallow and weedy waters. I have seen other guys use the same technique you are with great success too. When I do fish the deep water I like to still be snag free so I'll rig mine on a 1/2 or 3/4 oz Biffle-type (free swinging) jig head. Chompers makes them also and called them "Wobble Heads". The hook is recessed Texas style and the wobble head lets the lure not only kick its tail like normal, but allow the whole baits to jump around left and right. I'll use the same technique you mentioned.....dragging in on the bottom. The other way I will fish them is casting over a point and jigging them up and down on my retrieve. To keep them weedless I'll use something like the "Blade Runner Weedless Swimbait Jig Head" or, my new favorite jig the Nu-Tech jig head.

Hey Chris - ABSOLUTELY. These 4.8's and 5.8's get bit by all size of bass in any body of water. I can only speak to the Eagle Claw Lazer weighted swimbait hooks in terms of sizing because they are all I ever used with these. For the 4.8 you'll use the 5/0 size and for the 5.8 use the 6/0. Here is a link: www.tacklewarehouse.com/Eagle_Claw_Lazer_Sharp_Weighted_60_Degree_SwmbtHook/descpage-ECSWBHK.html I prefer the 3/16oz or 1/4oz because they cause the lure to swim down readily and give it great action as you let it sink to depth. The 1/8oz is good for specifically keeping the lure high in the water (maybe 1-3ft), but not ideal if you want to fish it deeper....plus it wont have that nice swim on a slack line fall.

So does the that hook basically act as sort of a shaky head (maybe should call it a shaky hook!) impart a tad more movement to the body? I've been just using a regular solid jig head (where the hook comes out of the top) and have great luck. Looking forward to trying em like this. And I've discovered the top water aspect too. Only I'm usually weighted too heavy. So gonna try some lighter weight weighted hooks like this. Thanks!

Hi, Funny just checking google about Keitech swing impact (fat). See your youtube video..I like your demo;-)) In the Netherlands we also found out the huge attractive force of this lure! We fish at European seabass and the 3.8" fat impact blue gill or electric works best!! At least for my friends and me. We fish at water with not so much currant but really compared this bait with other good bait. These are the best!! We fish with jighead on the rocky bottom. Maybe weedless we should try

How do you keep the bait from sliding down past the hook? The screw lock is fine but it always comes back to me with the hook completly exposed. I am going to try some superglue on the top of the bait where the hook lays. I suppose a fish will break that seal and hook up but this seems to be my biggest problem. Any advice?
