valzerna The Trokar hooks seem to work best as they have a wide gap. I also really like the VMC hooks. 4.8" swimbaits seem to be the sweet spot. They can draw the big fish but are still small enough for the smaller fish to bite.
@valzerna7 жыл бұрын
yes, i have the vmc hooks, but thanks to your video i found these Trokar hooks, i like the wider gap for the 5.8 fat swing impact. I mean, i never lost a pike with the VMCs , but sometimes the gap of a 7/0 vmc hook seems just to narrow compared to a Trokar on a Fat Swing... so, thank you for your video!

years ago i found that i was missing strikes on super flukes my solution to the problem was to bend the last part of the hook with the barb open more so the point of the hook is more straight to the bait. this can be done by grabbing the hook with pliers just after the main bend of the hook and increasing the space between the hook point and shank of the hook. or you can grab the bend of the hook and bend it away from the eye to open up the point as well. i know this is from a while ago but hope it helps you or other people watching the video. tight lines dale

@jakeorr236 жыл бұрын
Owner beast hooks are my favorite for all swim baits, under spins and regular. The edge on trokar hooks cut the hell out of baits, owners are just as sharp if not sharper, and also keeps fish pinned better. Trokar are almost like a razor and cuts a bigger hole in the fish's mouth

I fish a 3.5 inch plastic swimbait al the time. The VMC 3/0 hook is the best because of the tungsten weight is smaller diameter. Also, when I first started fishing them I lost a lot of fish because I was fishing the wrong rod. I went to a 7 1/2 long rod with a medium heavy with a fast tip and it really helped my hook up ratio. On a five inch swim bait go to a 4/0 and so on. Try the 1/8 ounce for the 3/5 inch bait

If you use a bit of super glue on the mounting screw spring the baits will last a lot longer. When I first started rigging them like this, 2-3 good strikes or one caught fish, and it would get pulled out. The superglue solved that. Also...screw it in almost as deep as it will go. Otherwise the opening on the screw can sometimes get latched into the tip top eyelet (I sometimes reel the lure all the way up when walking in between shore spots. I don't crank it in hard, but if I'm not paying too close attention, unless I consciously leave an inch of line out, it can happen). And then when you cast its backlash city and if you're lucky the bait stays on and doesn't for flying into the water off the hook.

Joe really like your channel. How do you choose the right weight? Also, when you add a weighted hook do you add the weight of the bait to the overall weight? I think I asked that question the correct way. I'll see how you respond. When you rigged the vmc. It seemed that the hook was a little far back. Do you use a rule of thumb. That the hook should come our before the tapper of the bait? And with the weight being so far back. That might cause a in natural presentation. Thanks for the great info
@capitolbassfishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For weight I kinda just "eyeball" it...I always like to error on the side of too light unless I am trying to get down fast. I dont think there is a "rule" for weight...just try a couple and the right one should be obvious. I do like to use a hook that stays in the thicker section...the bait seems to hold up better...ones that are too long seem to mess up the action. Thanks again.

Hey Joe: Thanks so much for your analysis of Eagle Claw hooks applied to Keitech FAT baits. Seems like you are a stickler for details so I wanted to point out contrary to your green handwriting at the end , it was actually your LAZER SHARP 4/0 not 3/0 that you rightfully put on the yellow Keitech FAT 3.8" (May I add for your info: LAZER SHARP 3/0 works nicer than 4/0 on the RhythmWave skinnier 3.8" swimbait.)

You are fishing with the wrong line and rod. Any of the weedless hooks with the weight on them makes it even worse. @Larry777776 жыл бұрын
Hey Shay: When it comes to hooks, manufacturers can and do use various wire diameters to make their various styles of 3/0 hooks. Yes, American Wire Gage AWG includes 3/0 or 000. But an uninsulated single strand of it is almost half an inch in diameter and an insulated multi-strand 3/0 or 000 cable is almost three quarters of an inch overall outer diameter.
