I think this one is really special. The way he crafts this ending with the ups and downs and this beautiful melody. It kept stunning me over and over again while I was transcribing it. This became my all-time favorite (and yes, most transcendent) passage in all of Keith's work the very first time I heard it. It made me cry then; twenty years later, it still makes me cry. It's had the same effect on nearly everyone I've shared it with. It remains almost inconceivable to me that anyone could spontaneously tug this from the ether to land in our world. There's never been anyone else like Keith -- and there will not be again.

Hey thanks. My La Scala CD is in storage in a tote under a whole bunch of heavy stuff, at the moment, but I remember this well. It's interesting to see where you put the barlines. I can see the contours and density in real time, but I can't read every specific note, on the sheet music, at tempo, so I'll have to go back to learn some of my favorite riffs in this section. Thanks for providing the opportunity.

Yeah, with something freely improvised like this, it's difficult to decide on the bar lines. I'm not really sure that there's a right answer for them, so I just have to go with how I feel it. Thanks for checking it out!

Not criticising - this is an amazing feat - but why not write it in D minor and avoid all the B-flat accidentals?

This is a bit of an older transcription and I honestly don't remember if I had a specific reason for leaving out the key signature. Lots of times I will do that in a free improvisation like this, just so it's as clear as possible. And, I enter in the music using a keyboard so there aren't any extra steps for me to add the accidentals.
