I think this one is really special. The way he crafts this ending with the ups and downs and this beautiful melody. It kept stunning me over and over again while I was transcribing it. I just couldn't believe it! And man, that left hand! So smooth up and down the piano! Please consider supporting me over at Patreon ( www.patreon.com/michaellucke ) where you get access to my entire catalog of transcriptions as well as PDFs of every new transcription I do going forward. My patrons also participate in patron-only polls to decide what I will transcribe next!

I rarely hear anyone talking about the ending at La Scala; and how amazing it is. I've been away from piano for awhile, but I will be making a run at this. I can't wait to get to the point where I can play this. Thank you for bringing this to life for the rest of us.

This became my all-time favorite (and yes, most transcendent) passage in all of Keith's work the very first time I heard it. It made me cry then; twenty years later, it still makes me cry. It's had the same effect on nearly everyone I've shared it with. It remains almost inconceivable to me that anyone could spontaneously tug this from the ether to land in our world. There's never been anyone else like Keith -- and there will not be again.

@@giovannifortunato6118 Giovanni, I hope you won't mind that I'm offering an English translation of your lovely, truthful thoughts. Grazie, Davis "Incredible to be able to understand how such harmony and balance is possible. Jarrett's hands are guided by God. He starts from nothing, and not even he knows where he will go and where he will end. It is like a seed that contains all the information of the plant that will sprout, sprout and grow to live until the last of its days. Pianist of a unique and refined sensitivity, too. Different from all the greats who preceded him."

Measures 188-194 are mind-numbingly effective. What an amazing set-up. Thanks for this.

I first heard this when I was in my early teens. Hasn't left me since: it's one of those pieces that, when in doubt about life, I come back to. My pianistic abilities are way too limited to play, but I'm so happy this transcription exists. Thanks!

Amazing. Good work figuring out the time signatures. This stuff is the real deal. I remember hearing this for the first time. Life changing. Keith says in the linear notes a guy cane backstage in tears after this one!

Hey thanks. My La Scala CD is in storage in a tote under a whole bunch of heavy stuff, at the moment, but I remember this well. It's interesting to see where you put the barlines. I can see the contours and density in real time, but I can't read every specific note, on the sheet music, at tempo, so I'll have to go back to learn some of my favorite riffs in this section. Thanks for providing the opportunity.

Yeah, with something freely improvised like this, it's difficult to decide on the bar lines. I'm not really sure that there's a right answer for them, so I just have to go with how I feel it. Thanks for checking it out!

Beautiful stuff. The last 12 minutes of La Scala Part II might be even more transcendent in my opinion.

brilliant music and transcription!! What about doing his stride version of Liza?? i guess that would be pretty much impossible because of the poor recording quality but it would be a nice challenge.

Not criticising - this is an amazing feat - but why not write it in D minor and avoid all the B-flat accidentals?

This is a bit of an older transcription and I honestly don't remember if I had a specific reason for leaving out the key signature. Lots of times I will do that in a free improvisation like this, just so it's as clear as possible. And, I enter in the music using a keyboard so there aren't any extra steps for me to add the accidentals.
