As a drummer studying this; what's going on in the trading? 8's, a 12, an I don't know what before Keith brings them back in. It's not totally rubato though, I think.

the form of the song is A/A/B/A divided in 8/8/8/12. keith starts on top of the form. that's why jack plays one trading over 8 bars and one trading over 12 bars. they play 2 forms in total. the final trading done by jack is a bit difficult to count, but again over 12 bars. cheers.

Absolutely masterful playing. Honestly though, I think Keith needs to do a better job of leading the band; a good sounding trio isn't all about about being able to play well on your own. Listening, orchestration, timing, entrances and exits, those are all key too. Miles Davis himself was a less smooth soloist but better at everything else, and that's what made his music sound amazing. Love Keith though, favorite solo pianist, so lyrical
