The funniest thing is that Pete and the boys actually made Keith public relations director. He actually was. Too damn funny.

There was some speculation that Pete and the others were trying to still find a role for Keith to keep him a part of The Who group because they had lost confidence in his drumming. due to Keith’s acute alcoholism and hospitalizations. from alcohol related seizures (throughout 1977-78). There is no doubt that one of the reasons Pete decided to stay off the road after “Who Are You” was released was in part due to Keith’s fragile state and diminished drumming capabilities. I still believe though the group would have tried to stick with Keith as their drummer. I believe Pete was playing a waiting game in the hopes that Keith would get back in playing shape. Unfortunately of course Keith died before that could happen.

@@drummer78 Even if Townshit had insisted, becauqe he's a @sshole they NEVER, NEVER replace Moonie except when he died and with all respect for Kenny, "The Who" were completly broken from the inside and after 2 bad albums Kenny left... 🔴 Keith was SINCERE in his fight against alcohol ! For "The Who", for his daughter, for Anny accepted marry him. I'm an adficted woman, i've known Moonie before his death, The WORST addiction to stop is alcohol and Moonie didn't want AT ALL to be in in rehab for 1-2 months coz he had been traumatized by the genius movie "the one who flew over the cuchoo's nest" with Nicholson.... 🔴 I've been in rehab several times, it's a shame, i'd prefer jail even if i didn't know jails. The Doc would have given 1 box of pills to Anny and another to Daltrey for example... Roger was the most serious at that time and he loved Moonie , "Shitty Pity" didn't like Keith at all even if he faked, yes he used the death of Keith to explain 5 years of sex ,drugs and alcohol... Well... We could tell he opened his eyes when he understood this lil guy unbearable but so good and kind won't come back in Shepperton studios. He hated this poor Moonie during 14 yrs and again just opend his eyes and ears too when he was in front of this lil coffin. Personally, i tried to kill myself when i've learned that Moonie won't destroy any drum kit or hotel room.... He was the last TRUE definition of a Rock star.... "The Who" received their deserved trophy for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 90 presented as "The Keith Moon's band" He did for free ALL THEIR PUBLICITY 😂 In a serious, french documentary with many archives on "The Who" , Pete said himself "we weren't never the same. we must change. Keith Moon wasn't just a funny clown but an absolute genious in drums, he was the energy of the whole group. We miss him differently John, Roger and me but we have really lost a leg..."

He was supposedly getting better and trying to change, after seeing The Final 24 - Keith Moon, it opened my eyes and made me feel quite sorry for him as he was trying to turn his life around but made the mistake of taking too much to try and overcome his alcohol addiction. One night gone terribly wrong, may he rest in piece

I remember in '75 the night my oldest sister came home from The Who's Seattle Center Coliseum performance... He was all she talked about for weeks... it was a few years later that i obtained Live At Leeds, Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy, and The Who Sell Out... then l understood completely what all her fuss was about. I'm now re-reading Tony Fletcher's "Moon." Probably the best book l have ever read.

@beyondthehorizon75

@@c.g.3931yeah, I know right? Keith’s complex personality is something I can relate to. I read Tony Fletcher’s book “Moon” (USA title) or “Dear Boy” (UK and elsewhere title) 25 years ago - and about 20 times since. Keith’s story, as told by Fletcher, was such a sad story. There are of course moments showing how truly funny Keith was as well as what a talented man he was (not only as a drummer, which we all know) all around. I highly suggest that book for every single Moon and Who fan in general. Even if Roger Daltrey hates it just because Tony Fletcher dispels the mythology surrounding Moon’s life - and there is a lot of mythology about Keith. It’s like how AC/DC have it out for “Bon: The Last Highway” author Jesse Fink for getting people question AC/DC’s official narrative and how there is more than enough circumstantial evidence which points to the late AC/DC genius lyricist, vocalist AND songwriter Bon Scott having a helluva lot to do with writing a lot of their album _Back In Black_ - their supposed “tribute to Bon” with a title and title track that have absolutely _nothing_ to do with Bon’s death but _everything_ to do with the band finally hitting payday (“Back in black, I hit the sack” 💰) and them finally getting “out of the red” financially after 5 albums flop before finally having their first top 20 album (and first Platinum selling album) in the USA (their target market). Bands like to tell their tall tales, and that’s their right, but they should not get angry when an author wants to get as close to the true story about these guys. It is done out of nothing but love and respect for who they were as people. As a fan of both musicians, I want to know the _real_ Bon Scott and Keith Moon. Both were flawed human beings. Both were _real_ human beings who had troubles like anyone else but that is what made them who they were. Thank God for Jesse Fink and Tony Fletcher for doing what they did for Bon and Keith. Screw what Daltrey and Brian Johnson/AC/DC think.

Of course, his comical side comes out at the end as they board the bus. I remember an interview with Chris Stamp where there was a meeting at Shepperton to fire him as their manager, one of the reasons given was he wasn't bringing the band enough opportunities and investments....ahem.....does Shepperton not count as one of their best investments ever ?

"he was having them on".....maybe in the early years when he first started this posh accent.....eventually he addopted it whole sale , so you could almost not figure out if he was having you on or not .....of which this mix is a prime example... In the end poor Keith himself was confused which role to play , just like that other "funny" character Robin (I'm not depressed) Williams......guys who were expected to be the clown and the "light" of the party all the time, which must be bloody exhausting ,and causing them to grab any tranquillizer to get a few hours of sleep......

Blues fan Tony Fletcher’s biography on Keith Moon includes harrowing details that Keith had several hospitalizations due to alcohol related seizures in 1977-78. In a 1977 interview with NME, Pete Townshend mentions that Keith was recently in the hospitality because of seizures. I love The Who and Keith Moon but there is truth that he was very unwell in 1977-78 due to severe alcoholism. Keith tried to get it under control and he in fact overdosed on pills prescribed to counter alcoholism.
