Idk about who the best dog is, but the best dog owner is hands down Eugene. He got rescues and makes sure they’re happy. Also, in the try guys switch pets for a day video, he took Bowie on a nice hike and was just super sweet with him. Eugene just seems super comfortable around all dogs and just lets the dogs have fun and be happy

Zawaaa wrong. While yes puppy mills are horrible and the dogs have issues most of the time it’s also wrong to say dogs or any pet from a shelter doesn’t have those. A lot of shelter dogs have issues. Some shelter dogs are from puppy mills (like you said) and will also have the exact same problems, some might be street dogs who also don’t have any social skills with other pets and humans. While it seems like shelters are the way to go when you want a dog (I thought that too) I now know that that isn’t a solve all solution and that a lot of dogs won’t be already trained. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t any. But if someone is getting a rescue they should know that they might deal with a dog with issues and if they can’t deal with that they’re better off getting a different dog from the shelter who already had a family. Or buying puppies and dogs isn’t as bad as it seems. While puppy mills should be avoided at all costs, of you’re buying from a responsible breeder than there shouldn’t be an issue.(and responsible also means socializing and not inbreeding dogs)

Zach might seem overbearing now, but Bowie is a pup with more energy and learning potential than he’ll ever have again. We have a Blue Heeler and an Aussie that both literally came from sheep farms as pups. They are working dogs with herding mindsets and prey drives (especially the Heeler). They need structure and “jobs with rules” so all that energy doesn’t get taken out on the wrong things. When Bowie gets a little older, Zach’s work is going to pay off big time for his breed and they’ll both get to relax a little more.

I have a similar philosophy to Eugene, I'm not here to psychologically manipulate my dogs into being my servants and to perform tricks and such for me. As long as my dog knows to poop and pee outside of the house and listens when I ask him to stop barking it's all good.

I've trained dogs for my entire life (including service dogs) and I gotta say Zach is what I would advise new dog owners to train like. If a dog is busy and actively using their brains they're a lot happier and less likely to destroy your stuff. A+ to Zach! That being said all of the dogs are adorable and the best in their own ways. Keith gets an A for effort haha

Amen to this. I don't think many people understand that dogs need structure and training, especially working dogs like Bowie. They need mental and physical stimulation or else behavioral issues ensue. Then people wonder what's wrong with their dogs.

Zac is actually doing the best with his type of dog, I've worked with so many Aussie's that don't get any discipline and its a disaster waiting to happen, they will destroy shit and get into serious fights with other dogs, they need a lot of training, they are working dogs and they actually enjoy discipline

Too true. Bowie is a high energy breed and Zach is giving him the best sort of attention he needs; even his 'puzzle' bowl is designed to help work off that energy and focus so Bowie can be a mentally healthy dog. Dogs that don't get the care that they need for their breed end up being destructive, ill behaved, and anxious. If you own a breed that was bred for things like herding and hunting and guarding need to be given outlets that work with those instincts.

My parents have a mini Australian shepherd that they haven't spent time training. He is so rambunctious and annoying that everyone refuses to watch him if they want to go out of town. The poor dog needs to be trained and allowed to let his energy out in a healthy way but instead he just gets away with acting out. People tell them constantly that he needs to be trained if they're going to watch him but they always just say, "he is trained." The only thing he has been trained to do is go to the bathroom outside. A lot of people don't realize how much work this breed is, they're smart and a lot of work. Zach is doing what I wish my parents would do
